Pisses me off when LMGs have higher recoil than ARs using the same calibre despite being heavier. Heavier means more force is required to move it, meaning less felt recoil.
But they have a higher rate of fire that makes them less controllable (without a bipod)

@@Divano-qw2sbrate of fire does not directly correlate into recoil and controllability the way you think it does. yes a gun that shoots faster will put out more force but that force will be easier to control because it's just a smooth upwards motion, as opposed to a slow firing gun that jumps up and then settles again before the next shot is fired. but this isn't really relevant here because this is a video game, not real life. if the gun has so much recoil that it's unfun and ineffective in game then it should be changed, regardless of how hard to control it is in real life.
The worst part about MGs is that the blur suppression effects, which forces you to keep your head down, only applies to people using irons and holos. Scoped weapons while ADSing ignore it, which nerfs iron sights and holos to the ground, while people using scopes can ignore a large part of the suppression, and keep on shooting accurately. At 1:39 that's why he was able to kill you, and that's why you shouldn't play MG or AR unless you're in a very communicative squad.
Yeah they’ve gotta make it so that the area inside your red dot isn’t blurred just like the magnified scopes. For irons I have no clue what they should do though lol
This is what it all always comes back to, is communication. Its got to be stressed as much as possible bc people STILL don't get it. Squads need to communicate. Players dont want to try SL bc they dont want their squad ignoring them. If ppl would just be willing to talk and coordinate, Squad would shine the way it is supposed to. This game has way more potential when people are communicating and coordinating effectively.
@@megacluckcluck2302 they should do it the opposite way. Make the magnified scopes blurry instead of making them immune to it
AR is nice if its the m27 (pocket sniper)
the blurring effect doesn't make sense anyways. if you want to get a meaningful supression effect that is also immersive have it to where your character blinks and winces his eyes. it is highly unrealistic for my eyes to go blurry as if I had acid poured onto my face.

The 240 is actually pretty good but but not as good as the PKP, they make the American MGs more wild and less able to be used accurately than many of the foreign MGs, having said that while I share your issues on bipod mechanics, being an MG gunner is all about maneuvering to a good position and understanding human behavior and travel. The 6x mag on the marine 240 can be jarring at times which lends itself well mostly to the giant open maps where you can stretch its legs.
I think that they made the FN MAG (in all the variants used by the bluefor factions) not as good as the PKP and other foreign GPMGs because the bluefor factions have a better AR kit (the FN Minimi, while the other factions have basically their service rifle with an extended magazine) and, to me, seems a fair trade off.
@@Divano-qw2sb The Minimi has lower accuracy though, and some variants have the 200rnd belt while others have only 100. Outside of the RPK-74s, I think the other other automatic rifles are fine.
I love using the 240 in game. Just use it appropriately with a good field of fire. I’ll rack up 15-20 kills (not knocks) a game with it

What people keep forgetting is that MGs are not meant to be used for things such as assaulting enemy positions , they're meant for firing from a covered position behind the friendlies , suppresing the enemies and keeping enemies away.
It's like you didn't watch the video. even in a defensive scenario you need to maneuver around obsticles and enemies, battlefield 5 figured out how to balance this out by not letting you ADS while standing up. The fact that game figures it out better is insane.
the problem is this game has wonky bipod mechanics, and make the gun way more uncontrollable than it would irl, so it does a shitty job in almost everything. it's just a fullauto 762:P most adult man can comfortably fire it from shoulder and make hits at 20 yards in a range let along a trained marine

Bipod needs a rework in this game, the fact that LMG are un-usable on a downward sloped angle when trying to shoot enemies across a hill on equal level makes it a joke.
LMG class are pretty good if your a good player with map awareness and knowing more or less where enemies will be, the gameplay is slowed down compared to every other class out there outside of recon.
@@humbleguardsman5578 Funnily enough, that is also what made MMGs pointless to use. If you are always going to need to move about, then blocking ADS while not bipoded removes the viability of that gun. Doesn't help that BFV's bipod was also wonky and inconsistent. It meant you could easily get knocked out of ADS just because you turned slightly to the left, and the game considers that area to be unusable on a bipod.
Besides, being stationary in a BF game for long is an easy kill for the enemy.
@@Slenderneer I should have been more specific when I was talking about battlefield V's lmg mechanics. Certain lmgs allow a half way point of aiming while standing with a lmg. Basically you're not necessarily aiming down sights with the gun but rather "bracing" it so it's not hipfiring either. How this would work in squad according to my feeble little brain is it would create a reduction in recoil and spread but still have a cone shape spread. It'll reduce movement speed and not have as much suppression.
I always run MG or grenadier, MG is definitely a steep learning curve. The scoped variants aren’t great on close to medium engagement maps, you’re way better off with an LMG or an iron sight version. If I have to use a scoped one in closer combat I just point shoot bipoded and use the tracers. If you use the mg class as a rifleman you’re gonna be in for a bad time. You basically are there to suppress; locking down kill zones in defense or keeping defenders from being able to shoot back at your squad in offense.
Oh and yeah the bipods are annoying, also the foliage… You finally get it to stick in a good spot but a leaf blocks your optic.
The medium machine gun is good long to medium range, hence why it's a bigger round, longer barrel, and longer range than the m249. The 249 is an assault weapon, the m240 is a support weapon that can genuinely be slaughterhouse and a bad day of being constantly shit on if you play it right. Idk why there is only one MG per squad, machine gunners fire in pairs for the best suppression
@@sheldorthegrey640 You can just pair up with your automatic rifleman, though they're pretty rare. I think MG is just limited to limit the number of tracers flying around.
Guys who aren't in the military or have 0 military experience and knowledge of real tactics are always parroting this as if its the only job of an MG. Its ONE of the jobs of one. The other is to do as much damage to an open target as possible. MG's have always been the most lethal guns in war.
I like playing the MG. In rare scenarios where I find myself in CQB, my trick is to spam aim, this way my barrel stays pointed at the enemies and I have a better chance of killing them if they show up instead of spraying at the side, then at the ground, then at the sky and then die.

Squad needs to implement a weapon heat mechanic (hotter barrel large spread) along with repurposing one of the rifleman options to an assistant gunner who can deploy a tripod and change barrels. Nerfing assault rifles to their sustain rate of 12 rounds per min without an accuracy penalty would make machine guns viable to suppression.

I went from playing MG regularly to just playing rifleman and found myself much more effective at dispatching enemies and assisting my team with ammo.
Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm 2 has the best bipod mechanic.

I actually enjoy the MG and Automatic Rifleman classes. I'm always first to pick them if I can. Though very little can beat the red dot 249.
Fun video!! I imagine the LMG is a hard thing to balance - too much one way or the other and you're an unstoppable killing machine, but the bipod issue is unforgivable in 20fucking24 tbh (also still loving the radio/music!)

Most of these issues regarding weapon handling were much better pre ico. The gun could actually be fired full auto when using the bipod, and burst firing was viable when not using the bipod. But the bipod has always been so fickle when using it.
HMGs are more for long range, in which case, they absolutely destroy whole squads because who cares about estimating distance and accuracy when you have 100 rounds of 7.62 suppressing until it hits and kills. Any of the maps with mountains and cliffs a good HMG is an absolute menace

They need to have a bracing feature like hell let loose where if you tap rmb you ads and if you hold rmb you brace. or vice versa I guess depending on what you have as ads
or just add a mechanic kinda like the mounting from cod. ive fone long range shooting and propping yourself against a tree, rock, or ledge makes it much better.

i get that they might not want to completely rework the bipod coding but like please put some sort of indicator of where it'll go so you at least know BEFORE going through the lengthy animations that the spot wont work
Something that doesnt make sense to me is that a M240B is a Medium Machine gun, it only has 75 rounds? (It could be 100 but corect me if im wrong) A real marine machine gunner carries hundreds of rounds, the belts can be connected together making up to like 400 rounds till it gets hot and might overheat. They should add a overheating mechanic to the game but make it to where the m240 carries more rounds. But no shooting this thing without being on the ground or using the bipod, its made for defensive or support by fire postures. Machine gunnery is an art but its definitely not "useless", you just have to pace yourself correctly. The M240B should be the difference between a well defended obj/effective assault with support by fire and a bad day of running around with the gun and getting mowed down by an enemy squad.
What makes even less sense is that this is visually and mechanically an M240B, yet they label it as an M240G. The G is different in quite a few aspects to the B so I don't know how they were this lazy.

ive missed so many kills so many times trying to eploy the fucking bipod in a place it should clearly go...then when I do it deployed you can move it like degress and not where you need it. Then ICO cam along and that shit got uninstall so fast. Sad its not getting any better

Why did OWI turn the MGs into SMGs lol. Its so weird. Using them as a gun heavy enough to be accurate with a high ROF is kind of the whole point of an MG. But then again theyve always been about arcade over realism but keeping it tacticool. HEDPs are a good example. Do nothing to vehicle like tigrs and thats kind of the whole DP portion of the HEDP.. Why include that detail but make it so they dont actually work?

MG like AT needs fire support to be effective. MG is good for two things. Field of fire suppression and Area of Control.
Works best in tandem with advancing forces. I agree that communication is key with this kit.

The overhaul was the worst thing they did to the game, they just needed add suppression and arm stamania that's it they decided to twist the game the way that only mechanised units actually matter the inf are just to cap points

im a LMG gunner in the IDF and i will tell u that. that the fucking HMG is fucking massive like 1.4M and that dude who got it in my squad is literally a giant i mean the guy is 2.10m and its to big for him . im with my LMG of 0.86m can run and shoot. he needs to literally stop every 5m to use it

I think the top most important priority this game has if any is to completely overall the aesthetics of this game to give it some sense of art direction and atmosphere. Instead of this ugly ass, apathetic, empty look that every other game that is on this exact same engine has. It literally looks like nothing. Bland paper cardboard. Very boring

I disagree. These MG kits, particularly the 240, are amazing. It's effectiveness is very dependent on positioning, but I don't mean on a rock or in a window positioning. I mean tactical positioning. As in being on the flanks and finding choke points or canalizing terrain.
I don't understand why this is labelled as the M240G when it has a front heatshield. As far as I was aware the M240G has no heat shield and no picatinny rail yet the one in squad has both which would indicate that it's the M240B instead. It also lacks the 3 different fire rate settings(600-950RPM over the 3 settings), instead using just the 700RPM setting which the Bravo doesn't even fire at.
Overall very fucked up design choices from the squad devs on the FN MAG platform overall.
I always pick it if I can because I like the challenge. But your points are valid 🥲
