    Notice how all the films after this randomly decided "Hey lets never mention all of these pirates every again for some reason."

      @an1m8r 3 года назад +835

      In all fairness, none of the films before this mentioned them either. They're just World's End minor characters really, not franchise main characters.

    • @Yukiwodashite
      @Yukiwodashite 3 года назад +412

      @@an1m8r Well not everything is mentioned in a franchise before it appears. Think about the marvel movies for example. They build up to new characters and organizations, and even if they are minor like Martin Freeman in Civil War and then later in Black Panther; they go to be part of the universe. But once something appears as major as a council that runs pirates around the globe, it's a bit odd to never mention them again. My point was really at the end of the day, pirates 4 and pirates 5, have a tendency to act like large chunks of the previous films don't exist. There is very little consistent world building. We may not see the pirates council all together again. But no cameos or even mentions of them? It's odd as we explore more of this world it sometimes feels as though we learn more rather than less.

      @@Yukiwodashite That's a very fair point and well put. I don't care about 4 and 5 to play devil's advocate for them further lol. I can only imagine the latter films using other lords like Barbossa, if at all, as victims of the new villain, so prefer them vanishing to them being humiliated.

    Can we just take a minute to talk about how Elizabeth was one of the main focuses of this franchise, if not THE MAIN FOCUS? Along with her rousing speech, this awe-inspiring scene, and every scene she is in until the end of the film, shows how far she has come since the first film.
    She started out as the governors daughter. When she was a girl, she rescued a boy who was drowning in the water half-dead. She discovered he was a pirate and was kidnapped eight years later by the pirates that were hunting HIM. This boy, now a man, came to her rescue and they fell in love. Then, their marriage was halted because of their involvement in freeing Jack Sparrow. She went on the run, became a pirate herself and soon after was almost killed when the 'Black Pearl' was attacked by the Kraken! She left Jack to die to save everyone else and had to live with that guilt even after they rescued him from Davy Jones Locker. She LOST HER FATHER and then found out her old flame has indirect involvement in her father's death. That old flame then came to rescue her when she was captured again, and gave his life to help her escape. Soon after she was elected Pirate King, and single-handedly put in charge of leading the Pirate Brethren to war with Lord Beckett and Davy Jones. During the battle, the man she loved more than anything was killed, mere minutes after they were wed! He's resurrected as the new captain of the Flying Dutchman, and now they can only be together one day every ten years! Captain Jack Sparrow may have been the main character, but Elizabeth Swann was the focus of the entire story. And this pivotal scene, where she rallies a bunch of frightened bilge rats to stand up and fight for their freedom, their way of life... This is the moment she takes center-stage as the ultimate hero of the story.
    LOVE LIVE THE PIRATE KING! LONG LIVE CAPTAIN ELIZABETH SWANN!

    I can see why some people didn't care much for the side characters for this film, but honestly I can see why the other pirates weren't needed. They knew that the Dutchman was a force that could wreak any of the other ships, and that the Black Pearl was the only ship that could stand stern to stern with her. And only if the Pearl asked for it, would the other Pirate Lords interfere and join the fight. Obviously, near the end, the other Pirate Lords would've helped the Pearl fight Beckett and his men, seeing as it would take at least all of the ships on standby to take Beckett's ship down, but when the Dutchman resurfaced and sailed alongside Beckett's ship as the Black Pearl was doing on the other side and opened fire on Beckett and his men, they knew it was best not to interfere. And when the rest of the fleet accompanying Beckett way off in the distance saw Beckett go down with his ship, they knew darn well they wouldn't stand a chance against either the Black Pearl or the Dutchman, seeing as they're enchanted ships that can take a licking and keep on going, hence why they retreated and why we never got to see an epic naval war between the Pirate Lords and the Naval forces of the East Indian Trading Company.

      The Endeavor, Beckett's ship was a first-rate ship of the line. The Dutchman appears to be a second-rate and the Pearl a Galleon. The Pearl would've been torn apart by a near 60 gun salvo if it took on the Endeavor alone. It's a good thing the Dutchman resurfaced, as it's side guns (most likely numbering in the mid 30s) would be more than capable of taking out the Endeavor. But analyzing the EIC fleet, it was entirely 1st and 2nd-rates. Losing a flagship however is very demoralizing, especially one as large and impressive as the Endeavor. No wonder the EIC retreated.

    It’s disappointing that more movies nowadays can’t seem to pull this sort of thing off. Like, “Avengers Assemble” was good, but it could have been better. Personally, the more memorable moment in that scene was “on your left”. Because cap’s like felt like it was just a catchphrase, where Sam’s line was delivered at the perfect moment, when Cap is at his lowest point, it was at the emotional apex of the scene. Same with this scene. Elizabeth’s speech, and most epic speeches, serve to hype up the crowd and the characters to build up to that moment. It’s sad we don’t see more of it in modern day cinema.

    I guess they didn't have the budget and wanted to make the fight focus on the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman, but I would have loved seeing the Brethren fleet fight the Royal Navy. At the very least, we could have seen the shock on the Navy's faces upon seeing the destruction of the Endeavor only to realize too late that the Brethren had formed a massive firing line, or we could have seen them engage ship to ship before the Navy retreated.

      I think it's also worth noting that they saved the "best for last" at the peak of the orchestral score, so they definitely wanted to draw attention to it. And when all the flags are raising on the same screen with the Jolly Roger front and center with that drum roll at the end...pure chills!

    Yes. A bunch of sloops, brigs, and small frigates are going to fight a fleet of 74s, large frigates, and at least one First Rate. Because that makes even a little bit of sense.

    • @nicholaswalsh4462
      @nicholaswalsh4462 3 года назад

      Also, apparently it is POTC canon that East India Trading Company in 1729 had over 300 warships. These warships appear to range in size from brigs to Third Rate Men o' War. While the East India Company was a powerful company, the cost of such a fleet of WARSHIPS, not to mention having a three decked FIRST RATE SHIP OF THE FUCKING LINE!!!!!! will boggle your mind.
      HMS Endeavour, Beckett's flagship, was a 110-gun First Rate. This is not a cheap ship and, also, not a ship that would EVER be sent to the Caribbean. Especially not in the hands of the Company. One First Rate would be an equivalent national investment to SEVERAL fleet aircraft carriers. At the height of the Napoleonic Wars nearly a century later, the Royal Navy had SEVEN First Rates. If the Royal Navy had a First Rate in 1729, which they had a couple, they would be in England pointing at France. Not leading a Company Fleet to fight pirates.
      In 1720, France had 48,000 tons of ships and they had the third largest ocean going navy in Europe. The Dutch, England's other major rival at the time, had 79,000 tons and England had 174,000 tons. By 1730, France had grown her fleet to 73,000 tons and was equalled by Spain. England had grown her fleet to 189,000 tons.
      No one, anywhere in the world, had 300 ships of between 200 and 2,500 tons to send off to go fight pirates. The largest ship likely to be seen in the New World at this time would be a 4th Rate of 50 guns, maybe a few more. Most likely would be 5th and 6th Rate Frigates of 20-40 guns and brigs and sloops of 4 to 18 guns.
      This entire sequence makes no sense. Hell, the whole premise of Pirates uniting to fight the EIC makes no sense.

    • @hellbusterdragon
      @hellbusterdragon 3 года назад

      Actually I think EEIC has more of heavy duty ships, like 2nd Rates, First Rates, hell even perhaps one or two HMS class ships. Even a freaking Man O' War and perhaps War Galleons too. But sometimes speed like that of the Black Pearl is good too. I don't know, I just defeated 3 First Rates using just a Man O' War in the game The Pirates: The Caribbean Hunt.
