What are your thoughts on the current single time zone?
@@Nutshellindia there must be single time zone across whole of India but schools and offices opening and closing timings can be adjusted by allowing them to either come early and go early and come late and go late
I'm from Mumbai, 3 Months Before, here Sunrise happened at 6:30 AM and Sunset happened after 7 PM...
Well it actually happens around 5. And shifts by 15-20 minutes throughout the year. Dawn stars at 4am but takes 45-60 minutes to sunrise
@@kspradeep8397 right, having 2 time zones will be a complete mess, instead state govts should be allowed to adjust schools and office timings to better utilise the solar energy

Reference of france is misleading. While mainland France has one timezone, its overseas territories owning to their diveregent geographic locations have mutliple timezones.

Rather than having 2 time zones , just change office and school timings in eastern and western part of the country. Infact office, school, college, banks timings needs to be changed throughout the country to manage peak hour rush in metro cities.

Exactly, two timezone will create more problem than the solution.
Fir koi petition daal dega fir 10 saal baad hoga ye kaam

You are suggesting the sane thing. Except instead of changing laws of every single institution and office with millions of orders and changes, you can do it just by doing one thing.... Change the time zone.

Yeah, and it is so needed cause seems like we won't get seperate time zones.
NIAS reports India will save 2.7 Billion Dollars in Electricity units if we switch to 2 time-zones.
Same in Bangladesh
Mentioning France is a trick. France has 12 time zones because they still have territories or let say former colonies all over the world.
Exactly it is former colonies
This video is a joke so much misinformation, less facts and more opinion
foolish logic , France has so many small islands scattered across the Atlantic, Pacific, indian oceans.. That's why they have multiple time zones.
But we have north east and andaman who has difficulty with this time zoe
No one has offices in andaman
Having a single time zone makes it easier for a country to coordinate and also India is more long than wide, so it makes sense. Also, France occupies tiny islands all over the world, so it is far more widespread than India inspite of technically being much smaller. Hence the comparison with france regarding time-zones doesn't make sense.
But it affects a lot to the people of eastern and western parts of india, these problems of ist should have an solution.

Yes there are disadvantages of single time zone but having separate timezone for North East region will further create a distance between main land and north eastern states!
Your logic is the problem, fuck about the distance created instead care more about the the productivity. If india government want better relationship with the Northeast then they should develop the region rather than sending lots of army.
Office and school could start one hour early in my state but because of single time zone we start at 9 am.
My dear brother, in Goa the school starts at 7.30- 8.00am. It's the will power of the state machinery that can resolve such conflicts brother. The residents of your state should push for 1 hour early start in all sectors if that can resolve such productivity issue.

I propose India should have 2 timezones like West Indian Time (WIT) (UTC +5) and East Indian Time (EIT) (UTC +6).
Indian states mostly falling east of 82.5° longitude which starts from Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and all eastern states under UTC +6. This makes 11 states and 1 Union Territory ahead than rest of India.
Similarly rest of India starting from UP, MP, Chhattisgarh, & Andra Pradesh and all other western states and UTs under UTC +5.
It would take hardly 5 years to adjust but a better and more perfect environment for future generations. In fact if Indians 100yrs back can do this then we aren't dumb that we can't adjust to this.
China too has single timezone although there is difference of 3.5 hours between sunrise of eastern and western extremities.
I think we should have two timezones at 5 and 6 hours. All states with its capital west of Mirzapur gets UTC +5 and other part gets UTC +6.
I used to livie in Mumbai , where sun rise at around 6:15AM - 6:30 and sets 7PM.
Currently I got transferred to andamans.
And here sun rise at 5 AM and sets at 5PM.

Coz most of us like evenings walks.
That too around 5:30PM.
But here at 5 :30 PM you only get darkness.
And yes i wake up at 5 just because the sun stares at the window at 5.
Go to walk at 4.30
Wouldn’t it be nice to get a good morning walk , exercise etc without worrying to rush for work. In fact your own work gets priority over employers work and you get the most energy and focus on you rather than someone else. In Mumbai we give best time to employers and leftover tired time is left for ourselves.
That's your habit and not an imposition, let's say you move to Mexico, you have change you time table by atleast 12 hours

Do you know that China also have one time zone
.because more than 90% Chinese population live on eastern side
If we did so, it will bring great confusions in railway time. So we should make everything 2. Like 2 railway times for a country. It may bring transportational issues inside country and reduces the productivity of East part of India.
1) Australia has 3 timezones because it is a lot wider than India
2) France has 12 because of overseas french territories
Not trying to be unnecessarily confrontational but India isn't exactly small.
1) India's width is 73% (approx) compared to that of Australia. If you place India on top of Australia on a map, align Gujarat with Western Austrlia, North East India would be overlapping Queensland - which means India stretches across 3 time zones.
2) India does have two sets of islands - Lakshadweep is much closer but Andaman and Nicobar Islands are closer to countries in Southeast Asia as compared to South Asia and latitudinally directly south of the Seven Sisters and Myanmar.
*I was born and raised in Goa (West) and later I had to move to Jamshedpur, Jharkhand (East), I literally lost my sense of time due to early sunrise and sunset. I am a person who really wants a new time zone as sometimes it's really stressful!!!!!*

Theoretically sounds good not sure if really this is applicable practically, we as Indians only switch on /off if we feel to based on the available natural light
We can change the timings in the NE states right?
Electricity can be generated using solar power wherever there is a shortage. We don't have to change the unified time zones
Really great topic to do!! Thank you for spending your time and making! It was really fun to learn about it
NE states are 30 minutes behind Bangladesh. Even though they are far east than bangladesh. That itself states the problem. India should have 3 time zones having a 30 minutes gap each between them.
It's safer to have 1 time zone. Having multiple will just open Pandora's box.
But unlike ancient times we sleep According to time not the sun's position 😅 so how does it affect sleep?
Exactly
Correct, that was way healthier than these days
The rising and setting of the sun impacts our body clocks or circadian rhythm. As it gets darker in the evening, the body starts to produce the sleep hormone melatonin - which helps people nod off. In a new paper, Maulik Jagnani, an economist at Cornell University, argues that a single time zone leads to a decline in quality of sleep, especially of poor children.
Cicardian rythm is reduntant in the age of smartphones and artificial lights.
@Nutshell what about the situation in artic circle then. Don't people there get healthy sleep for straight 6 months?
I completely agree with the saving the electricity part by changing the timezone. But I don't agree with the point of loosing sleep. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The fact that duration of sleep matters that is 7-8hrs whether you are in western or eastern region.
Then why is china following single time zone..? China is much bigger than India
The reason why China has one time zones
More people live in eastern part of China about 96 percent
Only 6 percent of people live in the western China
Western China it very cold there and uncomfortable
That’s why they have one time zones
@@tahmidabdin4625 hey same is the case with northern eastern states of india. it has only 45 million people which is only comprising 3.76% of India's population.

@@Nutshellindia Been waiting for your response Nutshell 😅
@yas 123 chaos in what? Everyday in India is already chaos actually. 😂
Pls also address why (reasons)it is not being implemented? Should be part of the video!
Instead why not leave this too state governments or institutions themselves, at least for schools and colleges to align their timings slightly. Also for businesses having their operations across country, although this may not be possible for all types of businesses, since the adjustment of half an hour is also going to benefit, encouraging it at regional level and keeping it optional should be the best first step - that should also provide some proof of concept to indicate whether it's worth separating timezones officially is worth the efforts as it would also have some downsides
The video states the facts but is quite misleading. Throughtout the video I was thinking about the solutions she gave at the end. Also the example of russia and australia was fine but that of France is again misleading because France observes different time zones only in overseas territories and the time is same not only in metropolitan France in europe but even in it's neighbouring countries.
Early start in east and late start in west will be the best solution. Common core time of 6 to 7 hours should be enough to transact inter zone business.
This video explained me the whole geography related to longitudes and even I got a lot of extra information. Thanks a lot

Great work.. 👍
France has 12 different time zones because they occupy a lot of small islands across different oceans (and India doesn't). So going just based off of size is a wrong comparison. Also, India is more long than wide, so it also makes sense. Adding another time zone might have advantages, but in India's case, not having multiple time zones is also an advantage

Why do you think so?
@@veipuniilana1842 it's easier to coordinate many activities with just one time zone

I get the energy saving part but sleep part is difficult to digest. as If child in western part and eastern part sleep at same time and wake up at the same time then amount of sleep is same. let's say both sleep at 10pm IST and wakes up at 7am IST. then hours are same.
So the solution is, companies can change their office timings right? Schools can start at 8:30 AM rather than 7:30 AM. I don't see a reason to change the clocks here. Anyone care to explain?
I live in Maharashtra, and here the sunrise and sunset changes every few months. Will we accomodate that too?
In North east India during winter days sunsets almost at 4.30 pm but we have to follow 9 to 6pm office time .It really sucks coming home at night 😩
We have to fight for separate timezone in NE! Let us raise consciousness!
Two time zone is not good idea .it will eat up more than .02% of gdp as expenses related to problems. Better to have a regional solution
It’s better to put India 30 minutes ahead
Whole of India sunrise and sunset will be 30 minutes later

I don't get this logic of getting less sleep depending on the sunset. We follow the same timezone for deciding when to go to sleep, when to wake up and when to go for work/school. How is it related to the sunset?
