12:41 mins Indias land area is 1/3 of china.. despite the fact that India and China has the same numbers of population, so, population wise china is 1/3 of India..okkkk that's cool.. But eastern part of china carries 98% of its population..why..? Any specific geography of eastern part of china..?
Just a little correction sir, why compare present day China's territory while making a comparision with India's population. The population density of China wrt Ancient Qing dynasty's territory is pretty much the same as of India's. They too have all the necesaary condition such as natural defenses, great river systems, good climate and presence of big domesticable animal.
Just consider if india has the whole central Asia and Tibet in it the same will be the situation for indias as it is for China. The point is that China is also populated like India if you see the main China excluding sinkiang takla makan and Tibet.
In addition, China also has summer monsoons in the South and East parts of China where most of the population lives. I am surprised he did not mention that either.
With regard to population you are not completely correct.Well Europeans were also breeding a lot few hundred years ago. But they migrated and occupied Americas, Australia, New Zealand, parts of Africa. Let us put all of them in Europe and see their population. While Indian migrated a few thousand year ago but then they were prohibited to cross the ocean.
Lovely episode! Can't praise you guys enough. Very well articulated by Naveen and perfect reactions and questions by Shrikant that make the topic relatable and engaging.
Answer provided explain why population was high during 10th century. But why our population has increased so after 1950. In 1951 our population was 35 cr and now it’s 144 cr.
Yes they didn't even took factors like women education and rise of women working independently into account , they just answered why more early humans settled here rather than in other nations , which took place around 300,000 years ago
Compared to most other countries, we already had a huge population base at the time of independence. At that time, both our birth rate and death rate were high. But then, we entered the second stage of demographic transition during which our birth rate continued to be high, but the death rate started to fall rapidly, mainly due to improvements in infant, child and maternal mortality rates and better control over infectious diseases. This is what caused our population to explode like crazy. We are now in the third stage of the transition, where our birth rate has also started to fall. But because our population is already so huge, we will continue to grow in number for several decades to come even with a falling birth rate.
The Himalayas which cut off cold winds and the large coast line which keeps the climate equitable, prevents snow in winter and drying of crops in summer and lets everything survive - humans, flora and fauna that make up their food, also explains the large population. Several mountain ranges besides the Himalayas - North South and East West are needed to stop clouds and generate rivers. Which also India has. If we were just a plain we would be a river less desert
Human is just a creature, but it think can go other planet, never possible, life is earth, death is hell, without earth human have only one option is death 😢

India has the perfect Masala for fertility. Warm temperature that makes clouds, clouds hit the mountain and turn into rains and take minerals with them from the mountains aling with them in the shape of rivers
Brazilian here. We do have have a lot of planes areas, specially in the north, where there is Amazon river. If you go to statistics, Brasil is the biggest producer of food in the world.
These factors like environment explains why more early humans settled in our nation rather than in other areas , the reason why our population is grown in the 20th century is because that our women were not well educated and independent enough to take their own decisions , which if you look into account is the only real factor affecting population growth rate , the more women get education , the less babies they produce , even today , the desire to have Children is much much higher in educated men and in educated women
Although Indian Ocean is not directly touching the Artic but it does directly touch the Southern Ocean which directly touches Antarctica, therefore shouldn't Indian Ocean be cold? Also, USA is twice as wide (east west geography) as India and South America (Brazil and neighbouring countries) is 2.5 times.
12:43 . Actually 96% of China lives in about 1/3 of the country if we discount Tibet, inner mongolia and Xinjiang provinces. So I think effectively they are as populous as India.
I loved the episode very much. China's population though is not equally distributed. It is similar to how India's population is fed. The concentration is in the East and South China diagonally. This area is richly fed with rivers and plains. The west is Tibetan plateau, north is Gobi desert and also it gets more colder as you go north.
Interesting. But this formulation does raise a question worth exploring: Why in today’s world of mechanized farming, should cattle feature as a prominent contributing factor to population growth??? Your answer?

What about the fact that India has a high number of ancient tribals. Implying that it’s people are not majorly genocidal (compared to many other regions)
Most of Chinese people's lives in eastern part of country. in west their is Tibetan plateau, in north they have cold Manchuria and aired InnerMongolia and in north west they have Xinjiang autonomous region so basically only 25 persent of china is suitable for civilization. They also have lots rivers originated from Tibeta. Yangtze river almost 2 time longer than Ganga river and there East coastal area have most of people's and it's recived high rainfall so basically they are more densely populated then India 😅😅😅😅
This planet fst will be like dry hot desert and cold planet after 2555, by 7555 it will be red giant, then after 5 trillion years later eill engulf by sun, so life extinction doesn't mean end of earth, 😢
I don't know if I missed things here. But did you explain the connection between cows and population? Or dipole and population? Were countries in Europe more vulnerable to attacks due to low population? Or was it the reverse? Then is there any cultural difference which shows up as differences in population? What about contraception practices? Or contraceptive affordability? What about poverty? It is a thought provoking video. But it seems there are are many gaps. Many statements without explanation.
Cairo and the Nile Delta are also examples... But one can find counterexamples How about places in 'Murca? or Turkey? Or Southern Europe like Spain, Italy, Balkans?
Warm climate, Mount Everest ( which protected India from Invaders), wind, Monsoon rains and numerous rivers give fertile soil in India.. The cow is considered the most important animal in prayers for a good harvest adding to fertile soil and plowing the fields since ancient times.. Turn on subtitles and there is too much facial exaggeration. Thanks for the geography lesson and brief history of farming. Iran experimented with farming creating tools and seeds 12000 years ago.
Contrary to what you say, moist air from the part of the atmosphere lying above the seas and oceans is driven inland due to heating of the air above the land resulting it to rise up creating a partial vacuum over the land which sucks the moist air above the oceans. Of course the oceans are playing the crucia rule as you said rightly.
10 th geography - SW monsoon is actually SE winds as soon as they cross the equator the high temperature of May in india makes them change course to SW directs hits western ghats rains in Malabar coast wind escaping through gujarat & peninsula (with moisture from bay of bengal)meet again at chirapunji and pour everything there. At October its retreating as NE monsoon flooding TN and AP with cyclonic storms

We can easily conclude that Overpopulation is the cause of human extinction in the future. Imagine a virus taking over the planet and multiplying like crazy... Humans are 8.2 Billion and growing... Even many animals and birds aren't as many. Mindlessly pumping out children and then complaining about their problems in life is ridiculous.
It is theorized that lack of large domesticated animals is also the reason for native American civilizations' downfall after the arrival of Europeans. Majority of native Americans perished due to communicable diseases like small pox when they came in contact with the Europeans. Have you ever wondered why Europeans also did not get infected by any new disease in reverse from native Americans? Because Europeans had exposure to large domesticated animals from which over long time they had got inoculated from various micro organisms. Native Americans never had that chance as Americas didn't have any large animal (except llamas) to domesticate .
@@AminaPhilosophy If you mean Bison or American Buffaloes, they are wild and can't be domesticated (just like dogs can be domesticated, but wolves can never be domesticated). So, native Americans had limited contacts with bisons (only during hunting). It generally takes a long-term contact for a virus/bacterium to jump from one species to another.
Seeing the future overpopulation will be problematic, Deng Xiao Ping implemented one child policy in China. Africa also has overpopulation despite their fertile land. The more people are educated, the more they are aware of the overpopulation.
Been enjoying the clips here except the part which claims America had no cattle. Yes they wouldn't have had the bulls or cows as we know from different parts of the world. But they had bison in the north for instance. They had mules and llamas and other types of herd animals such as mustangs indigenous to the region. Agreed totally with the latitude longitude issue which requires differing tech for agriculture. Potential fan here from malaysia. Keep it up but please avoid blanket claims about everything.
Some fascinating discussions... however, you neglect to mention two major reasons behind India's insane population: lack of access to contraceptives and preference for boys. For most of independent India's history, contraceptives were not widely available nor used by Indians. And the traditional preference for boys means that couples keep on producing children until they get a male child. On top of that most of the population is engaged in agriculture, so farming couples are motivated to make lots of children to have helping hands on the farm.
Sorry, as a geography nerd, I'm highly pestered by this otherwise informative video. As much as this person sounds knowledgeable, there are a whole lot of things he has missed out, either on purpose or because of ignorance. This has made this video highly reductive and at places factually incorrect. For example, - The Indian subcontinent does not uniquely have a lot of rivers. Large parts of Africa, Asia, and South America also have large, dense, perennial, snow-fed river systems. In fact, none of the 10 largest river systems in the world is in South Asia. - (6:17) Brazil's Amazon basin does not have plains and (2:17) most of Africa doesn't have plains. Are you freaking kidding me? Just look at a terrain map of the world. The Amazon basin alone has much larger plains than all of India's floodplains. - (7:21) The Indian Ocean dipole figure he showed from the BBC article talks about the temperature difference "from the average". It does not imply that East Africa receives more rain than Indonesia. Thus, that's not a valid reason for the Indian Ocean to be warmer than the Atlantic and the Pacific. A simple Google search will show you that the Indian Ocean is not unique and large swathes of the Pacific and the Atlantic are also similarly warm at similar latitudes. - I think using cows/oxen/cattle as a major reason for high popu. density in South Asia is not warranted. There's no point of comparing India with the Americas which didn't have cows. How about the Chinese plains and Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, ...) which also have high popu density without large-scale use of cattle.
Most of us in the 60s came from a family of at least 4 to 6 kids. Logic told us during our parents days tvs, cinemas, radios, any entertainment all an expensive items not many can possesed so your only entertainment is to pump kids out. Wala we give you india today
I hope that the other guy just listens patiently instead of interrupting constantly irritating the viewers. Listen first and then ask questions. Otherwise the speaker might lose his train of thought.
That's a great question Shailendra and the answer is quite complex. In general, the oceans in the north are colder than the oceans in the south because the northern hemisphere has much more landmass so much less water. Thus, there is less water in the north to absorb sunlight and warm up. There are a bunch of other factors including the fact that the ocean currents in the Atlantic and Pacific are such that they encourage exchange of water with the Arctic whereas the currents in the Indian ocean isolate it from the Southern Ocean.

Why cold water doesn't come from south pole?
That's a great question Shailendra and the answer is quite complex. In general, the oceans in the north are colder than the oceans in the south because the northern hemisphere has much more landmass so much less water. Thus, there is less water in the north to absorb sunlight and warm up. There are a bunch of other factors including the fact that the ocean currents in the Atlantic and Pacific are such that they encourage exchange of water with the Arctic whereas the currents in the Indian ocean isolate it from the Southern Ocean.
