      Thanks, so much. Yeah, much more natural and, to be honest, easier to put together afterwards!!! Thanks again, Den.

    I came from the center of a big city in Belgium. Now I live 6 years in the center of a muu baan in Phra Bu (Khon Kaen). 200 meter further all rice field. To be honest, great life. No time for television the last 6 years or looking a movie. 4 dogs, 50 parakeets, jogging, reading a book, internet a bit, a walk or a ride with the motorbike. No pollution, no noise, no stress, no red lights, no smog, no farang and not looking forward to have contact with farang. I like it, I love it, but most of my friends don’t understand at all how I can live this way. And there is an English friend that dreams to come live in this small rural town. Happily, there is a choice for everyone in Khon Kaen. And I don’t feel that I live isolated, not at all. Everyday I see and say hello to hundreds of people here around. There is not to much conversation, but that is perfect for me. The day is too short. But every single day I have my siesta as in the south of Europe. Happy life. But I love city trips in Bkk, Korat, Udon, CM and even the busy Pattaya but this is for Holliday. Living there is another thing.

      Spot on. I still live in the city of Khon Kaen but can´t wait until our house is finish to move out. The trafic here is crazy and difficult to park. Also very noisy at night. It is just too busy for me. If i need Khon Kaen it is only a 20min drive.

      Wow! Thanks for sharing. Sounds like the perfect life! I love quiet places too but still need to the city from time to time. I agree about many things and I do like my own company. I understand why you would want to live in a rural area. Some people relish that lifestyle as I mention in the video. But it really isn't for everyone. I have met people who built houses so, so far away from any amenities and within a year or so, were trying to sell their home as they couldn't stand the isolation. Where I live is perfect for me. I am 10 minutes from KK city and 10 minutes from rural countryside... I love both and visit both as regularly as each other. I agree, too, that living in and around KK, it is good to get away sometimes and visit other places. Thanks again, Den.

      I agree... I could NOT live right in the city centre. Way too noisy, polluted and the traffic is terrible as you say. I life about 10 mins from the city and about 10 from the countryside. I love where I live as it is perfect for going rural or city in no time at all. Thanks for sharing, Den.

    I used to love going to the housing estates and looking at the abandoned houses, if you remember I was trying to get 1 at the end of the Soi you are on.

      Hey, fella... yeah, I remember that now! It sold a few years later and looks nice now. So, people do eventually buy them (like we did with ours). Would have been great if you had moved there! Cheers, Den.

    The stories behind the thousands of abandoned buildings in Thailand.. Could be an interesting documentary one day. I have lately seen on youtube several abandoned multi million dollar mansions. Amazing mansions, or castles even. Just left, even fully furnished and all intact. Some with an incredible background story. Quite interesting, recommended. Yes, going 100% rural might be very challenging for foreigners. But living 10-20 km outside a city area, would be a lot better. We all need the choice I guess, not full isolation from what you are used to having around you. Thanks Den 🙏🙏

      What a very interesting thought, Sarlina. I would love to do something like that. And there are many, many abandoned buildings in Khon Kaen (and the rest of Thailand as you know). I may start filming all of those empty now and then go back every so often to see whether or not they are now occupied. This, compared to new houses being thrown up everywhere at the moment. No idea why abandoned houses aren't done up as it is surely much cheaper than a new build. Would like to be able to get into more of the houses ... especially if they have furniture etc. like you mentioned.
      As for the rural side of things, I am perfectly happy where I live... 10 minutes from the city and 10 minutes from rural countryside, with amenities right on my doorstep. As you mentioned, up to 20kms or so is fine. Living much further out could become a living nightmare for many! I couldn't stand it and would go mad very quickly. Thanks again... food video out shortly! Cheers, Den.

    The thing about towns like KKC is that if you do live very rural, a room at Kosa is c700bht which is a round of drinks in Bkk, so you can still come into town every now and then stay overnight in a nice place, hit a bar, see a movie, do a shop and not spend the earth.

    • @KhonKaenDen
      @KhonKaenDen  Год назад

      Indeed. Very good thinking! Yeah, you can go even cheaper and get decent rooms for well under 500฿ if you so wish. I know someone who does that but goes the other way to Udon. Cheap hotel, night out, few beers and then hits Cheese 2 Meat You for stocking up on sausages etc. Cheers, Den.

    I'll be 45-50km outside the city but only 7 - 8 km from local town, which is a big town as far as Thai towns go. You must have been through it maybe to the zoo . Loads of little Thai noodle shops / bar - restaraunts + a couple of 7-11's and a Tesco lotus, I think im as far out as I would want to be. When we get there you must come up and Ill show you around its pretty decent. Im lucky though as have been visiting the village for the best part of 20 years and have transport to get out too if we want. The difference in land and property prices between rural and city is quite a lot - you get far much more for your money and generally eating out is cheaper too. If like me you know where you are going to, then you most probably will also have formed friendships with many local ferang as well. In Khao Suan Kwang for instance, every friday is Ferang Friday where ferang meet up from around a 30km radius and have a few beers and a catch up. I dont go every week but if I feel a bit isolated then off I will pop. I would agree its not for everyone but then again neither is City life, I love Bangkok for a couple of days but then have to get out for the good of my sanity :). Good vlog as always Den keep up the good work.

      Hey, Mick. Yeah, I am sure I have been through it! Living 7-8 kms from a town is ideal. I would hate to live right in the centre of a big city just as much as I would hate living right in the middle of nowhere with no amenities for mile and miles. As long as you have fairly close access to the odd bar, restaurant and other local amenities you will love it. Not only that, 50kms away from KK isn't that far for a trip there once or twice a month if needed. Also, your little Friday meet-up sounds perfect. It is something to look forward to and you can help each other out if needed. Same here with Bangkok... love visiting, then love getting out of there! I know a few people who have literally plonked a house down in the middle of a field and there is nothing for miles around! You need some milk and it's a day trip to get some haha. Some people love that set up.... but I would go out of my mind. Stayed at places like this for a few days and I am itching to get back to civilisation! Thanks for sharing. Take care, Den.

    might make a good vid to follow up on that old house n find out the particulars. Likely someone died and a big family squabble has left it in limbo or perhaps the bank took it over?

    • @KhonKaenDen
      @KhonKaenDen  Год назад +1

      I like your thinking! I may indeed follow up on this house (and other similar ones) and see if there is ever any development. So sad that there are many houses left like this... and yet they continue to build, build, build! There should be some law in place whereby the houses should be maintained to a certain degree. Anyway, I will, indeed, follow up on it! Cheers, Den.

    It would be interesting to consider the personality types of people living in social and cultural isolation. If you like, try the test.
    I am ISTP = Pretty introverted though not adverse to occasional company…absolutely thrives in isolated spaces and finds social isolation an interesting phenomenon to be experimented with…actually needs remote areas like oxygen…happy building up an old vehicle around an oil stain and then exploring remote places on/in it….would choose a remote meditation retreat over a city event…Cities are nice for a quick visit but very quickly become exhausting…then, remote areas recharge batteries.
    Myers Briggs Tests can be criticised as crude, though they provide broad-brushstroke indicators of what makes you tick.
    There are actually Myers Briggs types even more introverted than ISTP ( we still like occasional social contact…however, I think there are MANY personality types that are not suited to remote Issan dwelling.
    My guess is that you are a gregarious extroverted type that likes occasional solitude before getting back to civilisation.
    Why not try the test?
