they are not smart. you should use a 30 year loan so you can have money to spend on vacations. You have your whole life to pay the house. Focus on other things and then once your kids are adults, then you can pay the mortgage.

Houses in middle America are not a ton of money. The Jobs can be hard to find or low paying which is another reason. When you start packing people into a small area, prices go up. Supply and Demand. Housing costs in CA and N.Y are insane!!!! The same type of thing is going to hold true in even 3rd world countries. Lots of people coming in and packing a city, Supply is low, demand is high, prices go up, up, up.

@@jbdragon3295 Most people also aren't willing to risk or live in a fixer-upper. I work in Chicago, which is a fairly expensive city with heavy traffic and high taxes. I can buy a house right now in a relatively-safe area, within about an hour commute, for under $80K...but it's likely to need some work. Most people aren't willing to risk or sacrifice like that. They want a big, fancy house in a trendy neighborhood and a fancy newer car...today. They want to go out and eat/drink with friends every day. They want to take the trendy vacations several times per year. They want to pop out their own tribe of kids without considering how to support them or what they're doing to the planet. It's selfish.
I'm debt-free, so nobody is deferring my living costs during this coronavirus pandemic. I still have to pay insurance, maintenance, clothing, food, fuel, etc. My 401K and IRA ALREADY took a hit. One of my jobs is closed down right now, and it's future is now questionable. There may be layoffs later at my "essential" job too. At least we have our health.

Many homes in Marshalltown have one bedroom. They're not in demand. Which is perfect for this couple.
Maybe run down maybe not. They definitely can handle a fixer upper.
Most broke,in debt, paycheck to paycheck types want big home with bathroom per kid, new cars and kids they can't afford with sprinkles of instant gratification here and there right from the start.
Average home in the U.S. might be $230k but I think this couple net worth will be well above average in time.

My monthly total cost of living is less than $400.

To me it makes way more sense to live in a cheap part of the country to build wealth. You can move wherever you want when you’re worth a million dollars.

Many don't look at the opportunity. They just see a place they rather not be. They won't things now. Chose fake lifestyle with no substance.
I know too many that rather stay in California and get nowhere financially than move to place like where I live.
They've turned down jobs in other cheaper places for the nice weather and palm trees.
They prefer to stay paycheck to paycheck.....call where I live a third world country and whatnot.
I'm light years ahead of them financially.

What you find is typically where house prices are higher is where there are more jobs available.

In the country where I grew up. The military service was a mandate. I was enlisted as a 2nd lieutenant in the Marines at age 22. I earned about USD$90 per month back in 1979. At the same time, the enlisted soldiers, at age 18, in my unit earned about $40 per month. I spent every penny I have earned during the two year service while those soldiers could save money and sent back home to support their family.
I realize that it's not how much money you can make. it's how much money you can save.

Where looking at the next millionaires within ten years. That's impressive making a six figure income and paying off your house in your early twenties. They are one smart couple.

its six figures COMBINED not each.

      I. Storm I understand that. What I was saying is that they are smart enough to pay off their house in their early twenties then they are smart enough to invest their COMBINED income wisely to further build their wealth to millionaire status in no time especially as they now have no mortgage debt.

This young couple achieved something far more difficult than paying off a house before age 25. They stunned Dave Ramsey. I've often heard Dave say things like "That's great" or "way to go!", but have you ever seen him this impressed with anyone's achievement? Dave is not an easy guy to stun. Even for "gazelles" this is not typical.
