  • Curious about the differences between Raspberry Pi 5 and Pi 4? Watch this unboxing and comparison video to learn about the new features!
Welcome to our video on the Ruby Robot education platform, where we'll be unboxing the Raspberry Pi 5, examining all its features, and comparing it with its predecessor, the Raspberry Pi 4.
Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi, clearly stated that Raspberry Pi 5 would not come until 2024 and that 2023 would be a "year of improvement," likely due to the resolution of the chip crisis worldwide. The card was probably released in September 2023.
For those hearing about Raspberry Pi 5 for the first time:
Raspberry Pi is a single-board computer developed by the Raspberry Foundation in the United Kingdom. It is the size of a credit card.
So what is a Single Board Computer - SBC?
In short, a single-board computer is a type of computer that houses all computer elements on a single board. On a single printed circuit board (PCB), a microprocessor, GPIO (General Purpose Input/Output) pins, RAM, and all necessary hardware for a computer are integrated. However, Raspberry Pi has a Micro SD card slot for storage. A Micro SD card is inserted into this slot as a storage unit.
Which adapter does Raspberry Pi 5 work with? What are the operating voltage and current values?
While Raspberry Pi 4 operates with 3 amps, Raspberry Pi 5 operates with 5 amps. You can also use a 5V 3A adapter for the Raspberry Pi 5 card, but the operating system will issue a warning saying, "This power supply is not capable of supplying 5A Power to peripherals will be restricted." In short, you need a 15 Watt adapter for Raspberry Pi 4 and a 27 Watt adapter for Raspberry Pi 5.
Do you need to use a fan for Raspberry Pi 5?
Normally, Raspberry Pi 5 does not require a heatsink. However, you may need an additional heatsink when you want to use all processor cores at high performance. In Raspberry Pi 5, there are additional holes for fan connection besides the mounting holes.
Raspberry Pi 5 vs. Raspberry Pi 4? (Pi 5 vs. Pi 4 Comparison)
Raspberry Pi 5 is stated to be 2-3 times faster than Raspberry Pi 4 on the official website.
    Raspberry Pi 5 has a 64-bit 2.4 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A76 processor. Pi 4, on the other hand, has a Quad-core Cortex-A72 (ARM v8) 64-bit 1.8GHz processor.
Pi 5 is developed with LPDDR4X RAM technology, while Pi 4 uses LPDDR4 RAM technology.
Both cards have Power Over Ethernet (PoE) connection.
The positions of Ethernet and USB slots are different. Both cards have two USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports and one Gigabit Ethernet port each.
Unlike Raspberry Pi 4, Raspberry Pi 5 does not have a 3.5 mm audio output. This deficiency needs to be compensated for via HDMI, etc.
Unlike Raspberry Pi 4, Raspberry Pi 5 has an RTC battery connection, allowing Pi 5 to retain time and date information.
Raspberry Pi 5 has a UART debug slot not found in Pi 4. Raspberry Pi 5 has a special connector for UART debugging.
While Raspberry Pi 4 has a single camera connection and a single display port, Raspberry Pi 5 has two camera/display ports with faster data transfer. These camera inputs on Pi 5 and Pi 4 are different from each other. Pi 5 has a Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI) connection. CSI (Camera Serial Interface) and DSI (Display Serial Interface) cameras can be connected to these ports.
Raspberry Pi 5 has a PCI Express 2.0 connection, which is not available in Pi 4. For example, M.2 NVME disks can be attached here. It is even possible to connect your graphics card to the PCI Express slot.
Raspberry Pi 5 has a power button as a novelty. Additionally, extra pins are allocated for an external power button.
The speed of the SD card slot in Pi 5 has also increased nearly twofold.
The chip with the Raspberry Pi logo on the Pi 5 board is an IO chip named RP1. The DA9091 power management chip next to the USB Type-C is a chip jointly developed by Raspberry Pi 5 and Renesas.
One of the innovations in Raspberry Pi 5 is the addition of a separate input for the fan on the board.
Unlike Pi 5, Raspberry Pi 5 does not have a standard s-video, composite, or SCART connector. However, there are separate pins on the board for this purpose. By soldering to these pins, you can transfer the image to an old CRT TV with a system.
