1983-1987 ('83-85 especially)
In some ways it was the best year because it was the literal transition point between the 70s influenced 80s music from 80-83 and the Synclavier / that decade influences before they became oppressive ...

I'll never forget shopping in the record store in the mall in 1985 with my bestie and we had just discovered Dead or Alive. The 45rpm single for this song was in the bin and on the plastic divider the record store had printed the name of the song ahead of the band name and it read like Lover Come Back To Me Dead Or Alive. We laughed so hard we had to leave the store.
I forgot how good this song is. I'm obsessed with it right now and with Pete Burns' beautiful face.

He was one of the few entertainers who really truly did what they wanted to do he did it his way people were telling him 1 thing he would do whatever he wanted to it I think I respect and appreciate him more for that and he came up with his own stuff he didn't take other peoples he did his own thing and hes missed his songs are just as good as they were when they 1st came out he helped me with his songs to a lot of hard times still can

Love the story Boy George told on meeting Pete for the first time in Liverpool. Culture Club had just been on TOTP and George’s rag doll image gotten lots of press. Fast forward to Boy George partying in Liverpool for the first time after hearing it housed a must-see club scene and this one particular fashion store with legendarily acerbic and feared window dresser/salesperson. Apparently Pete, known throughout London and Liverpool clubs for his outrageous costumes (but not yet for his music) minced no words in confronting George. “Are you Boy George? You completely STOLE my look!” George admits there was a bit of truth in that, as Pete’s costumes had often caused a splash at the same clubs where George had hung out. Though they’d never met, George had often seen Pete out and about in 80’s London nightlife.
That is a very awesome story
George paid for Pete’s funeral.
