Defensive record now a real concern. Conceding tons of chances this calendar year and lots of goals at home.
I think this became the issue for Emery at Arsenal
Konsa had a poor second half but Bailey didn’t track back and Reguillon and Damsguard were 2v1 for all three crosses and goals. It’s not all on Konsa. Poor from the centre halves too but one of the goals was an airshot with the ball hitting the player’s standing leg and going in… sometimes your luck isn’t in!

@@GuitarJammerJohn we nearly did at Luton and nearly did from 3 up against forest. Seem to be an issue. We are too easy to score against either way
Interesting that the point about how many goals we concede is now being brought up. This concern was shut down before Christmas because we beat city and kept a clean sheet.

I'm still all in on Emery and this squad but....but... I don't want to see us resting players again. It doesn't achieve anything except negative feedback. Defence is a concern since Kamara got injured but lets not forget we kept clean sheets against wolves and Ajax so its not every match but it does seem if we let 1 in, a 2nd is likely to follow
You're right, however, keeping clean sheets against Wolves who've lost all of their attacking players of note and an Ajax team full of sixth formers who are having one of their worst seasons, is more of a grey lining than a silver one.
City would have beaten us anyway. Emery was right to prioritise.
Question for next Q&A: Lots of (valid) talk about injuries catching up with us, lack of squad depth affecting performances. In an ideal world where every member of the squad is fully fit, who makes the starting XI?
Will Tottenhams fixture pile up help us towards the end of the season.

That game and every other remaining game. Every game is a must win and I can't see us winning any of them except maybe against Bournemouth 😔
A 2-0 loss here would've hurt the team FAR LESS than this result. This result and performance will destroy our season
I don’t want to be negative as the season has been the best amazing, but 4th is gone. We won’t get anything at Arsenal so spurs could be 4th with 2 games in hand. Just need to hope 5th place gets champions league 🤞🤞🤞
I feel like we've shot our load for the season now. Need to make sure we finish top 6 and build the squad over the summer, improve defence mostly. Top 6 will still be an amazing season, it's just a shame we're finishing with a whimper.

Disappointing..left Spurs in a less pressured position.. Defence has been poor since Xmas and injuries and suspension are taking there toll..Pau doesn't seem to be the same player at this time and there was a sneaky bit of complacency after going 2-0 which isn't warranted as this team has achieved nothing at rhis point..if you want to be one of the big boys you bury teams like Brentford once in front or shut the game down.only consolation was they had enough about them to pull a result out after behaving like headless Chickens.

Q&A question - how many times have Villa let in 2 goals between 44th-60th minute…. Do they just take a break until all the fans are done with their beers and back in their seats?
I’m getting sick of everyone moaning … chill out! Villa have done amazing - pretty much guaranteed a European spot with 6 games remaining. I mean it’s still possible we could win the league (possible, not probable).
Beginning to feel like we're getting incredibly tired now and the old Villa habits are creeping back in. I don't want to be defeatist but 4th is looking less likely.
I saw Watkins talk about us not having a big team mentality and I think that's fair.
Champions league we haven't got the depth of squad for it !
Defensively we're not good enough with too much tip tap football over the pitch, we're picked off easily.

I still back villa to come 4th. Spurs two games in hand are Chelsea and Man City. We may drop down to 5th for game or 2 but Villa still got a real chance of 4th. Forest could do good against Spurs aswell so yeah, glass is plenty full yet!
Mings kamara n buendia being fit would make a huge difference next year , we have had a terrible run with injuries

Spurs are now entering their own tricky run of fixtures if you look at them. The danger is if United find some consistency and start to make ground. We need to do our own business though. A point at Arsenal would be great.
Realistically imo top 4 gone now and even 5th in the balance on our recent performances. We can only hope United stumble in the run in. So disappointing. How do teams that ‘super analyser’ Emery put out put in defensive performances we saw under Gerrard, Smith etc? Since Boxing Day anyway. And Dougie - like McGinn - are our players just a bit thick or something?
More worried about Chelsea they have 3 games in hand that would put them about Utd if they won them, I can see where our next 3points come from

Weird and frustrating result.
At 2-0 I've never been so relaxed and convinced that we'd comfortably win and the rest of Villa Park felt the same.
Then we switched off for 10 minutes and threw it all away.
Uncharacteristically poor perfomances from Martinez, Pau Torres and Konsa I thought.
On the other hand - I thought that Rogers was absolutely class and man of the match even before he scored his goal.
Unfortunately think the players must of thought that too because we just seemed to switch off

his touch control and use of the ball and travelling with it reminds me very much when ramsey first came into the team,, and he gets back,, im a lot more confident in his defending and he showed yesterday he can be a key player for us in a few positions

Really bad result. Second half of the season has been average. Thank god we did so well in the first. If we finish 5th and get into the CL that would be very lucky.
For the first Brentford goal .Thay had. 3. Against. 2. In the center of the villa goal. . when the opposition have 3. Against 2. In the center of your goal. I would expect somebody to scream like a crying bady to alert somebody to even it up 3. On. 3. .Both centrr back were watching the ball. Didn't even see the extra player. .school boy stuff

Looks like 6th in the league - Spurs and Utd will grind results out and Villa look lost. They've lost momentum and it could be a real smacking against Arsenal next week. Hoping for some joy in the Conference League but not feeling it to be honest!

That would mean they would have to win 50% of their games left and we would have to pick up 0 points for them to even match us.
For a bit if context - in terms of points Man Utd are closer to Fulham in 13th than they are to us.
As long a Liverpool beat them today I'm not worried. If utd win they are back in it. Their remaining fixtures are way easier than ours and it feels like we have no idea what Villa will do at the moment
I agree. Beat Liverpool and they could well go on a run. No idea where Villa's next points are coming from. Also how do Spurs and Utd have two games in hand when Villa have played all these Conference games? Shouldn't it be the other way around?!

in heinsite i wish we had gone 5 at the back after going 2 nil up. kesler on to deal with regulion better. dougie luiz taking goal kick just after they make 2 1, just too get pressed and give the ball away straight away. painful. boot it up the pitch. make it hard for them. annoying but its fine. even europa league next season would be good. hopefully can win confrence league
