I am a West Ham fan. Very sad news about Gary Shaw. I was 12 remember the great villa side of that time. What a player Gary was . My condolences to his family and friends R.I.P Gary.
To those fans who never saw him play, he was our Jack Grealish of the 80s. He was a great finisher in front of goal. He could also pass a through ball better than anyone I've ever seen, his weight of pass was perfection. Watch Tony Morley's goal against Everton and his pass to Morley to set up Peter Withe's goal to win the European Cup. A true Villa legend and will be one of our own forever. RIP Gary Shaw HEITS
I was only 12 season ticket holders me and my old man ! We used to say Gary Shaw he can turn on a sixpence back off the net ❤ gone but never ever forgotten your gunna be up there watching us bk in the European cup ! Rip
I'm a Man City fan. Remember listening to the European Cup Final with my friends. And us all cheering Villa on, like they were our club. It is a great memory of a great team. Just sometimes the game is more important than who you support. Gary Shaw was a great player. R.I.P
I am a Liverpool supporter but Villa are my second team and Gaz was one of my first footballing heroes. I couldn't care less if more tributes are more erudite. That was beautiful. It was from the heart. RIP Gaz. God bless. XXX
As a Liverpool fan I was about 10 when villa won the European Cup & Shaw stood out, not only because of that distinctive blond wedge hair cut, & for gripping the end of his long sleeved shirt sleeves but for being a very graceful & skilled striker. He formed a great partnership with Peter Withe & it’s good to hear that he was a humble nice guy! RIP Gary Shaw☮️💟
I am a Manchester United supporter but I remember that great period for Villa very well and it was in a different era when people supported some other English sides, when they played in Europe. You are immortal Gary and will never be forgotten. RIP. 💗💙
As a kid, Gary burst onto the scene as I was sort of 9. In one East London school, where in the playground other kids would be Graham Rix, Liam Brady, Glenn Hoddle, I would be Gary Shaw. Always. Devastating news. RIP Gary ❤ My heartfelt condolences to his family at this sad time

I never had the pleasure of seeing him play myself but heard enough about him from older Villa fans to know he was one of our own, special and a true Club legend. I'm sad he won't be at our Champions League games, especially Bayern Munich, but legends never die, there will always be a part of him at Villa Park. Great tribute by Mat ❤
Likewise and I had the pleasure of meeting him and spending a few hours in his company. As well as seeing him play in his short career some 70 or 80 times. I like you am devastated.
Thank you for this Claret and Blue he was a hero of mine and then I met him many many a time over his career and in his retirement a pint many a time over the last few years in the bar at the White Horse in Harborne a man a icon a Villa legend I'm heart broken RIP Gary Shaw a Villa legend thank you Matt

Great player , great man. I'm only 42,so never got to see him, in the flesh. But some of my older mates, absolutely luved him, and speak of how good he was. Rip Gary Shaw, villa legend.
Firstly, a wonderful and fitting tribute Mat. Thank you. Not easy doing that mate, but you’ve done him proud. I was too young to remember Gary’s playing career unfortunately but was fortunate enough to meet him or listen to him in person at a couple of Villa related events. Only a couple of weeks ago I attended the West Ham screening at Villa Park and Gary was a speaker at the event. Such a wonderful man and he still had that aura about him, where fans are star struck when he enters the room. RIP Gary, gone too soon but never forgotten. HEITS.
Very moving tribute Matt, Gary ,Gary, shaw , when he hits the ball he’s bound to score , Gary , Gary, shaw. I was a teenage holtender on the terracing, no seats back in the start of the eighties, watching this one of our own goal scoring hero. Competing against the best. Along side Withe and Geddes. Taking us to the heights of winning the league, European cup, super cup. What a time that was to be a villa fan. Watching a young striker hitting the net , living a boyhood dream, playing for his beloved Aston Villa. Loved by all . Sadly knee injuries caught up with him to early in his career. Today is a sad day , thanks for the great memories Gary. RIP Holtender in the sky.
Fantastically put!. A fitting tribute to one of our own, a villa legend. Lucky to have seen him play back in the day. Remember him in with the Villa fans at the 94 league cup final, just a villa fan, just one of us. It’s so sad when we lose a part of the Villa family. R.I.P Gary. HEITS.
Followed Villa since the late 60's. Gary was the best finisher I ever saw and I've seen them all. Gutted when his knee gave up and devastated at his passing. RIP legend.
Well done Mat. You almost got through it without me hearing your tears in your voice. Now you've bloody set me off again. I've been sobbing most of this afternoon 😢 A special Villa legend. We'll never forget you Gaz. RIP 🙏🏻 HEITS 😇

Such a fitting tribute Matt. I loved watching him play. Such a truly gifted player. I would put him in the same mould as Trevor Francis, with not one ounce of arrogance.
