He wanted his own life back. He became resentful and chose the option that sets them both "free". But that wasn't his choice to make and now he's here to pay for his sins and endure the pain he put his wife through
Well yes but actually no,silent hill dosnt have any agenda or intentions and isnt "punishing him" or "making him face his sins" its just proyecting whats inside the people who endedup there,James *wanted* to get punished for his sins,he specifically states that on the 2 pyramid head scene in the original to make it crystal clear, something the remake decided to make a little less "in your face" because at that point it was obvious but he says "i know what you are,i know why i needed you",hes reffering to pyramid head, hes his punisher and James needed it to punish him for what he did to Mary, but at this point he already faced his sins and dosnt need PH anymore.
No, James still loved her even when she was dying from the disease, he killed her out of pity for her, because she couldn't handle to suffer anymore AND because he was being abused by someone he used to love, mary changed over time as the sickness got to her.

I’m someone that usually ends up beating games a bit faster than what the average seems to be but this game took me 19 hours to beat. I’m not sure why, there were points where I was so immersed I would spend time cowering in a corner or slowly peeking down hallways trying not to get jumped.
What i noticed in the original game is that it was mentally draining to play the game for any longer than an hour and a half. I had to take breaks between days of completing the game and didn’t end up beating the game after 5 months and a bunch of play throughs. Game literally makes you so depressed you have to collect reason to finish it

For anyone who doesn't want the bad ending: do NOT inspect Angela's knife in your inventory. That is the single most important thing (because it indicates some curiosity in what Angela was thinking about doing). Other than that keep your health up, James should care what happens to him. When you have to choose who is to blame in one of the puzzles, don't choose the woman but especially not the man, that would symbolize that James can't forgive himself. Choose the snake; it is simply the circumstances that are to blame, neither Maria nor James. Inspect Mary's photos often, you care about her, remember? Don't leave them behind. Oh and don't spend too much time letting your anger out on enemies that are already dead and in general if you are really there to seek forgiveness then you don't have to make it a murder-fest, try and escape monsters when you can. When you hear Mary's voice, don't rush forward and ignore her, listen to what she has to say.

Why people keep saying this is the bad ending? At least in this ending James accepts what he did (besides 'leave' ending). In the rest of them James is a dick.
To be fair i think a lot of that also just had to do with how shitty Konami has treated the IP for almost 20 years. At least that’s how it was for me and close friends as long time fans. It’s been nothing but bad for the series time and time again and until i was proven wrong it was hard to be optimistic. The Medium had some awesome ideas but some execution issues as well as padding/bloat. I felt the latter at times in the SH2 Remake. But for as monumental a task this was Bloober did great. Hopefully this revives the series in a good way
@@TheMissinLink Yeah that’s fair, which is why I thought it was good this job was given to a different studio. People had shit on Konami and silent hill in particular for so long, might as well give someone else a shot at it.

I'm curious, did you play the original too, or just the remake? I haven't played the remake yet, but the original made me feel that way too, actually put me in a bad place, mentally. I had to take breaks here and there when it got to be too much. If someone who doesn't know much about the original and played the remake with the same effect and feeling from it, I'd say the remake succeeded tenfold.
@@treefingers6572 I finished it in 2 sessions and I'd say it's made me feel a similar way, I haven't played the original. Bloober team definitely cooked with this one. Big props to them for pulling off the improbable. The remake is incredible. Theu always talked about how they were big fans of the series, and it definitely shows
It's kind of sad that some people make fun on purpose or really dont understand victims of abuse behave in odd ways, but I guess not really their fault as people tend to absorb what others spread as their own perceptions. This game is a masterpiece on trauma exploration beyond just the gore and thrills we get as gamers while smashing random enemies, blobber team really nailed it but also the original one is a masterpiece

Only two things I can't unsee after having it pointed out to me is James teleporting at 51:11 ahead of Maria. Why they didn't have the player run ahead of Maria IDK. I guess so they could have that jumpscare of pyramid head breaking through the wall during the chase. That and the animation glitch (see DigitalFoundry's video on the PC version). I can't unsee that now either. But overall yeah this game was a very very nice surprise. Hopefully Bloober can at least improve the traversal stutter, and animation glitches. They actually don't show this at the end with the bad ending that you got. Mary's body is actually in the backseat. There was another RUclipsr that actually went into far crazy detail with this game. Where he unlocked a lot of the secrets. Everyone always knew that James killed his wife. If you actually go up to the car in the beginning you can actually see a dead body in the back of his car seat cover with a blanket. So what you're seeing is him looking in the backseat at her body. Hence why the ghost appears and puts her hands around James
@@jumpiestaman100 I hear ya. I think the reason why this game is doing so well is because they actually did do that where they stuck to the original with a lot of things. The fans are loving it. We'll have to see now what Silent Hill they bring next I'm hoping either bring a DLC for Maria or Silent Hill 3
Yeah I checked that out with the Free cam mod on the nexus. That's how I discovered the dig at the HD collection with the comic sans "Silent Hill Ranch" sign that is out of bounds in the barn. I loaded an old save and found the room where the ending takes place but can't trigger it without the key of course (and the key is not accessible unless playing NG+, there are actually a few areas that open up on NG+).
@sean8102 oh really!? I've been wondering if anybody knew any information on the beginning part of the journey because I've always been really curious about that part. There's just a random barn and corn field along with a lumber mill etc. It looks likecsnu can get into it. You can't though. Would have been a cool add on if you beat the game. I just got the chainsaw the 2nd run through. Going for all endings lol

In water is the most realistic ending and honestly fits the mood and tone of the game more then the others. Maria is basically the bad ending that shows James hasn't learned anything and The Leave ending is the they all lived happily ever after fairy tale ending.
I always liked In the water and leave, In the water fits the mood and tone of the game because James couldn't move on from Mary and it makes since his whole ordeal would end in tragedy. However Leave also fits the mood because Laura has no one she's an orphan and Mary was the only person who really tried her best to be a mother figure for Laura. So to me the Leave ending isn't so much a fairy tale ending, it's James putting his big boy britches on and making amends by adopting Laura is the implication. While I love the In the water ending I personally always felt Leave made the most since, only because Laura is involved and she's the only character who has no closure if you get any other ending which is always out of place given everyone else has their closing scene. "My dearest Laura, I'm leaving this letter to Rachel to give to you after I'm gone. I'm far away now. In a quiet, beautiful place. Please forgive me for not saying goodbye before I left. Be well, Laura. Don't be too hard on the sisters. And Laura, about James... I know you hate him because you think he isn't nice to me, but please give him a chance. It's true he may be a little surly sometimes, and he doesn't laugh much. But underneath he's really a sweet person. Laura... I love you like my very own daughter. If things had worked out differently, I was hoping to adopt you. Happy 8th birthday, Laura." Many people forget because the game glosses over it this is as much as Laura's story as James's and it's less a fairy tale ending if James moves on but an acceptance that there are people who are more important than himself and his own selfish ego. Which feels kind of the point of Silent hill, everyone learns a lesson and the only way James learns one is in the leave ending otherwise he learns nothing and the town fails to save him as it fails to save everyone else. It's because of Laura James gets one lifeline and everyone else is doomed to their despaired endings.
Some people were biased by nostalgia. I love Silent Hill 2 and 3 but this remake is actually better than the original in my opinion. They make James a lot more somber and melancholic, less of an asshole in the original. It really potrays his guilt and showed him being somewhat a decent husband. You're still angry for him killing his wife but you can sympathize with him easier in the remake. They voice acting is also phenomenal in this, James sound a lot better. Mary's is just as good as the original.
No one questioning that there is a girl in the middle of a foggy graveyard all by her own and the guy just casually asks her for the way and then leaves?
Honestly, I really love this game. It took me 13 hours as I was like exploring everything twice and I still missed a few few things but my first Playthrough was really fun.
Legally blind or blind blind? If the latter you should try out the og Silent Hill 2, because of the script and the charming voice acting. And yes I know this is most likely a joke.
@@SirCrocodileRP Yes. The script is mostly the same but the original is unbeatable, plus the kinda "cheap" voice acting I think adds a lot to the charm of the game, that's what I meant to say.
as a kid when i learned james would look at items if your so close to them, and when i found the key passed the bars i was stuned, origanly you do not have to trigger luaras cutsence but in the remake she opens the door to get back there, origanly you use the clock puzzle. i really enjoy how the reworked the puzzles, they are the same but reordered or altered slighty, ive gotten to the point where i memorized a lot of the puzzles. ive played it like 4 or 5 times maybe. i really love it.
I fucking KNEW Charlie would get the bad ending because of how little he healed. It drove my ocd fucking nuts. I can’t stand being in the red I couldn’t play like that.❤
(spoilers in my comment be warned!) Welp I guess I already know which ending I'm getting after seeing Maria get impaled by Pyramid head after taking her 10 hours slumber in some random psycho padded cell they find. 😂😂 I must've explored too much perhaps and not followed Maria like I was reading you need to do in order to get the other ending. I didn't mind seeing this happen though, Maria creeped me out. It feels like she's "in on it" and is actually a monster but I think it's her personality they gave her lol.
One last cool nest Easter egg you can find for yourself is the silent Hill ranch out of bounds easter egg. RUclips it or try it out for yourself, funny little Easter egg I guess lol.
I knew that Bloober had the heart in the right place. They knew they couldn't afford to fck it up, otherwise they'd have gone in history as the vandals who had disrespected and destroyed one of the most beloved classic masterpieces of all time and with such a reputation, boy, you might as well close the studio. So the pressure and the sense of artistic responsibility elevated them as a developer and they rose to the occasion. It is also clear they have a lot of love for the original and just wanted to make everything right, even if a bit conservative in approach (which is a good thing for a remake if you ask me).
Thematically, it makes sense why and I’m glad it’s still like that. *SPOILERS:* As I’m sure you know from the original version, a lot of this personal hell was caused by James’ urges stemming from his lower body. It’s unironically full of sexual metaphors that manifested into this whole nightmare because of his infidelity.
@@Eligaming778 SPOILERS: yeah, he was trying to take care of his dying wife, but he secretly grew to resent her due to her sickness and the miserable pain that she was lashing out on him for while in her sickbed. So even though James had loved her, he became unfaithful to her. The “nurse monsters” are representations of sexual fantasies he had for the nurses while his wife was always in the hospital. The pyramid-heads are unironically shaped like erections on purpose, which are from him as they represent his sexual frustrations. The first time James meets a pyramid-head in this, he’s hiding himself away but is watching it drag a nurse monster away to go do “something” with her. “Maria” also isn’t real if you remember the endings. She’s a sexual fantasy, the peak woman of his dreams that he wishes his dying wife, Mary, was more like. Instead of what Mary actually became due to her ailing health: dying, miserable, and rendered sexless. James is absolutely depressed after her death and every monstrosity within his version of Silent Hill are the manifestations of his inner demons.

@@lilbrimu It’s not about thinking it’s gonna be bad as much as it is trying to find any little thing wrong to prove it’s bad despite very little preview. I was cautious about this, given Bloober Team’s other games and Konami being what they are, but having been playing this since I got it in, they cooked. There is a sense of dread going around corners not knowing what is there because the enemies in this aren’t just one hit KOs on light combat anymore, you have to time everything and hope they miss their hits. The boss fights are more interactive and not just in one room that I blind panic at one fight because muscle memory is a beep like that. In all, I can’t wait for them to remake 1 because that’s a game that needs the love and attention.
I love whoever does the Audio directing. They definitely played Fear & Hunger... Because there's always a creepy build up sound and full distortion, then loops back.
I moreso think the Fear and Hunger creators took inspiration from the original Silent Hill games from the late 90s and early 2000s, in more ways than just the sound design. Love both tho.
@@eddefram3962 It's definitely this, not the other way around. The Crow Mauler, for example, is very clearly inspired by Pyramid Head, and even directly references the first time that you see him (seeing him standing, motionless, behind a fence).

Many people spending 25+ hours in this game
What i noticed in the original game is that it was mentally draining to play the game for any longer than an hour and a half.
I was about to say, make sure you look at Mary's photo OR the letter often.

Why people keep saying this is the bad ending? At least in this ending James accepts what he did (besides 'leave' ending). In the rest of them James is a dick.
Everyone wanted this to be bad too. They wanted to see Bloober fail, so glad they pulled it off.

Yeah it’s also the same as the original game. So good thing they kept that in.

Gotta even give props to BLOOBER for changing most of the enemy placements after showcasing the gameplay
In water is the most realistic ending and honestly fits the mood and tone of the game more then the others. Maria is basically the bad ending that shows James hasn't learned anything and The Leave ending is the they all lived happily ever after fairy tale ending.
I also like that ending the most, it is the only ending that feels right to me.
Both endings are canon atleast with no definitive answer.
The Rebirth ending is the most realistic. Who hasn't sacrificed their wife to bring back a god?
dog>>>>>every other ending
Happy 8th birthday, Laura."
Many people forget because the game glosses over it this is as much as Laura's story as James's and it's less a fairy tale ending if James moves on but an acceptance that there are people who are more important than himself and his own selfish ego.
That scene in the hospital where Maria is absent…never happened to me. I was like wtf the game changes midway for people lol odd glitch

To be fair the reason why is because of konamis current track record + the track record of bloomberg team, always nice to get proven wrong.
Exactly. My attitude was the same as it is with basically any game pre release, "cautiously optimistic".
I still cant believe bloober pulled it off. I was expecting this to be a train wreck

Silent hill 2 the game where every boss requires you to shoot the lower Body
Thematically, it makes sense why and I’m glad it’s still like that.
*SPOILERS:*
As I’m sure you know from the original version, a lot of this personal hell was caused by James’ urges stemming from his lower body. It’s unironically full of sexual metaphors that manifested into this whole nightmare because of his infidelity.
@@MrJH101 damn I didn’t know he was infedility
@@Eligaming778 SPOILERS:
yeah, he was trying to take care of his dying wife, but he secretly grew to resent her due to her sickness and the miserable pain that she was lashing out on him for while in her sickbed.

I was happy to be wrong
It was fantastic. My expectations were extremely low going into this remake. They absolutely nailed it. I hope konami lets them do 1 and 3 as well
I was cautious about this, given Bloober Team’s other games and Konami being what they are, but having been playing this since I got it in, they cooked.
Dude told a sexual assault victim she’s weird 25:03
I love whoever does the Audio directing.
They definitely played Fear & Hunger... Because there's always a creepy build up sound and full distortion, then loops back.
Pretty sure it's the same guy that did it for the original version. At least I know he returned to do the music.
reminds me of original residennt evil 3 in the rpd halls
I moreso think the Fear and Hunger creators took inspiration from the original Silent Hill games from the late 90s and early 2000s, in more ways than just the sound design. Love both tho.
@@eddefram3962 It's definitely this, not the other way around. The Crow Mauler, for example, is very clearly inspired by Pyramid Head, and even directly references the first time that you see him (seeing him standing, motionless, behind a fence).
Lmao, it's the other way around. The composer is Akira Yamaoka. These are all his original works.
It took me so long to get past Eddie in the freezer
did the first title not do as well in the analytics?
@@beagle626 I think he's talking about the RUclips title
@@declanisducky lmao you’re right haha
I think thats the new meta- I feel like Ive been seeing a lot of youtubers change the title and/or thumbnail of a video after upload lately
i enjoy watching charlie play this just like everyone else, but man, playing this alone, on a big oled tv, all the lights off, headset on, dont be decieved, this game is fucking scary and intense.
Well, moist love this game it seems
what if instead of charlie, his name was fartlie
I am so glad this game came out and is actually amazing, hopefully this isn’t a one and done with bringing back Silent Hill.
The Hills of Silent situation is crazy
I will never get over how he still looks like john wick.
Great video bro
A game being good in 2024 is crazy enough
It's Silent Hill 2, after all. The game was already masterful class in its day.
And from Konami of all people.
There's been a lot of good games that released this year tho
Sparking zero and tekken , sun wukong there are still some bangers
We literally just got Silent Hill 2, Metaphor Refantazio, and Dragon Ball Sparkling Zero within the span of a few days lol. FF7 rebirth, astrobot, black myth. This year has been fine-pretty good. There always AAA flops, Concord doesn’t ruin everything lol
is this the first time moist has ever played a puzzle video game? lol
