Thanks for the video Darren, I'm always looking for DIY workshop equipment. I've made my own, but soldered them into connectors with proper oscilloscope shielded cable. I think you might end up with some issues with EMI, especially when you are in the engine bay with so much interference being produced.
Hai sir Pico oscilloscope 2240A we can check for battery testing and 4 cylinder witch cylinder is compression is week NVH options working please kindly make one video
Hey. Thanks for the video. I don't think this is a good way to make a good probe. It may solve your purpose and that's great but shielding and uniform impedance should be ensured as much as possible throughout the length of the line which won't be possible because of the connector you used. Also getting a 10X probe is better as it cancels all the reflections that may occur from oscilloscope back to the device under test.
@@MechanicMindset I bought a 5m coax with BNC connections in both ends cut it in half Removed a ring of insulation around 1m down from the cut end. Pulled the sheild together then soldered a gnd wire to the sheath. This is means to the probe is sheilded to the tip
@@MechanicMindset thank you. Just got an HScope, and have hantek probes, and want to use in automotive repair. Again, I saw you used the 2 wire probe,, others make their own 1 wire probes
This is rough, but just shows it’s possible and it works. I suppose it would be easy to make some nice quality leads with silicone insulation. They are just so cheap 😁
@@MechanicMindset I need u r suggetion I'm buying Pico oscilloscope but I'm staying gulf country Qatar here I'm checking in Amazon 180 dollar ur country how much price

For sure, the Hantek leads I have are sooo cheap; why would you make them 😂 Like you say, I think I will use the connectors to create some custom probes 👍
Hi,
Those connectors you are showing at 1.10 are known as wago banana plugs or cage clamps just in case anyone wanted to do a Google search. 👍
👌
I have many of them never let me dowm. You can obviously make them as long as you want. Top stuff as always
Ah good to know, I love the BNC connectors!

Ah ok, cool! I might give them a test across the engine bay 👍
Nice video! I had this ideea few months ago. But used crimped bnc connectors and RG58 coax cable. This cable is the best to use for scopes.
For sure, coax would be better - this was just a really easy way to make the leads. I will test in a high EMI area like engine bay!
Well Done yet again mate.
Cheers! Glad you are enjoying the channel
THANKS FOR ALL knowledge AND SHARE
Great video Mate , nicely done
Cheers Nidal, glad you enjoyed it 👍
You may want to use shielded wires to avoid EMI/RFI.
I thought the same; I might do a comparison between the two across a running engine. These cables turned out better than I thought! 👍
lots of folk will find this helpful. the links also.
Excellent. Thanks 👍

Hi, I already have 2 videos for this; one for battery voltage check and another for starter motor current check 👍

For sure, if you are measuring high frequency signals, this is definitely not the the DIY probe for you. But for Automotive testing, it works fine 👍
I used coax works well. Use the sheath as the ground.
Nice idea 👍

I saw in other videos they used leads with one wire.
Yes, most scopes you only need one ground connection to the oscilloscope, then the other channels only need one positive connection. Ground not needed

would some coax for an old cb radio work?
I reckon so, maybe just look for a more suitable BNC connector; these work well for twisted pair
thank you very much for the video, seen sometimes when I use extension cords for testing on trucks, I will be able to make wires at my convenience
Yes, you can make long cable to reach from form to back!
my good... what about makeing some professional probes better than HT30A Hantek ???

How about making a noise or vibration probe from a old knock sensor?
That would be good!
@@MechanicMindset I still have not picked up a O-scope.
I have autel elite and was thinking of grabbing the autel O-scope to start out.
Thank you! 🙏🇧🇷
Good video
Thanks!

You need to use shielded microphone cable or you will get a lot of interference, also the solder type BNC ends are better
I thought the same, but this test worked out fine. I might do a comparison across a running engine 👍
@@MechanicMindset would be interesting to see it on a running petrol engine especially without a cop system. Thanks for the good videos.
👍👏👏
things are getting cheaper all the time on the net so i guess unless best if you want custom sizes

PicoScope 2204A, it has a common ground so tried to keep them separate 👍
