1. Cut your clip down to the region you want to track
2. Add the Auto Mask effect, increase both radius settings to maximum (as of making this video: 500px)
3. Press "Analyze" (If a popup appears, press merge)
4. Create a title clip, add an image, add the title clip to a track above the video
5. Select the video, then the transition and in the options of the transition, select to import keyframes.
6. Remove key frame limitation and press OK
7. Disable obfuscation in the Auto Mask effect
You're done!

yes, I plan on making some tutorial videos for Kedenlive, I think it has to be the best open source editor for video out that that is not really that hard to learn.

This tutorial is not compatible with latest 2019 kdenlive builds... the extraction of Keyframes are now made with a button (left bottom side of automask window) .. and Affine was replaced by Transform, i just made an updated tutorial: ruclips.net/video/BJmKE-4TC3o/видео.html

Probably there's a mismatch between the version of the video and the version I have running at the time (debian testing so I have 19.12.3).... actually a few. First, the transition shows up as *Cairo Affine Blend*. Then, I don't have an option to import directly from the clip. I have an option to import from clipboard so first I have to copy the tracking data from the effect itself (there's a button to copy the tracking info) and then I can import it into affine. But then I don't have an option to map Geometry to Geometry. On the right combo what I get is Opacity, Rotation, X Position, X Scale, Y Position, Y Scale.

Hello, have you ever tried the Motion Tracker effect from the Misc section? I don't really know what to do with it. It tracks so much better than Auto Mask, but it seems like there are no keyframes to import.

My title image disappears from the project monitor after I "import keyframes".
I had stucked in this part too over a week.driving me mad, now I find out the issue.
it is because, in the new version, by default it is Geometry to rectangle is set, this means will scale the clip like the obscure area. need to be swtich to Position to rectangle.
In new version available to use transform on new clip instead using compersition(Affine) , it is because below:
Also, the clip will attach to the obscure position, with its left top conner as the dock point. which means, if the object you are tracking is on the right or buttom, the following clip will be out of the screen. to correct that you can add one more transform after the current one to adjust the position.

I just downloaded kdenlive and I am facing little issues like 1)my properties bar disappeared and I am unable to find it . 2) sometimes I get error message - ' enable video edit in monitor to add effects ' and everytime I try to add effect even after selecting the clip that makes the boreders turn yelliw after selecting the effects name shows up but nothing happens . please help me :)

Just started using kden after a miraculously finding a comment mentioning it on stack exchange while searching for reasons openshot kept crashing. kden is a godsend, its amazing, surprisingly easy to run on my OLD laptop too. Only issue is their docs are lacking, your video really helped.. I had same issue with clip import button not showing, so I was searching for half hour for that button. Anyway, I was able to import and track an object.. but I do not have the option for geo to geo, I only have position to geo on import... the dropdown has no other options, just the ones default. Have you ever seen this? thanks for the video btw.
This is now a very old version of KDENLIVE and some of this doesn't work in the same way. Could you please do a video showing this function using a modern version of KDENLIVE please. And when you say 'click on the video clip' I think it's important to say which one, i.e. the title video clip, or the main video clip. Thanks.
For whatever reason even the pixelated area won't follow the thing I marked in the video, not sure why... It'll move a tiny bit, then just stop.

Unfortunately there seems to be no direct way but you can render a cool lens flare in OpenShot ruclips.net/video/65FeUEfIMMk/видео.html and then use it in Kdenlive with ease ruclips.net/video/CW_micQxWgY/видео.html

I don't get the AFFINE link that you get in the minute 2:12. What can I do to link the clip to the text clip?
Is it possible to do it with texts and manually adjusting the text layer’s position by key frames and therefore creating this same effect manually?
How do I stop the transform effect from being in two video clip bars, it is now squished between video 1 and video 2??? It was when I did the Ctrl thing with the video and an image. PLEASE HELP!!
The rectangle don't move, blur the same. Stays in the same position and when I try Affine to "import keyframes from clip" it crashes.

uhh for me the pixels doesnt move, they are at the same place for all the video , and yes i press analysed on a someone face.but his face have a black robber hat so does it wil detect it ?

I got lots of trouble with the newest 0.9.10 version of kdenlive. Everything works as expected until i am about to import the keyframes. It only let me import the frames if i check the Size box and then its squeezed in that little box. if i manually resize every frame to original, it doesnt seem to apply the data. someone else got trouble and/or knows a solution?
Hi. Is there anyway I can allow green screen videos to move with an object, because I want to make a video where I have magic powers and I can create fire balls with my hand, but I don't know how to attach the fire ball to my hand. Please help.

I have KDENlive up and running on windows, but I cannot seem to get the Linux version running on my desktop. I cant seem to turn the suggested download for my OS (Mint) into an executable, and when I download VIA the package manager, it has invisible buttons and crashes when I try to import.
Try the AppImage. (probably too late)

However, it is worth noting that KdenLive UI is a pile of shit, 2:22 there is an invisible button. Horrible KuirkyDE apps. I have to learn some serious Blender Video Editor.

i know this is 2 years late , but basically for some reason it hates small boxes.
After I hit "Import keys from clip", all the keyframes of the affine transition have 0 opacity. I tried multiple times, I'm not sure if I did something wrong. Can anybody help me? Or maybe a way to set the opacity of all the keyframes?

I tried this and I've got it to work except for a couple of problems I'm having. I am trying to use a video clip as the target but every time I import the key frames the motion vectors are all resized. Are there any tricks to either avoid the resizing or to batch edit the key frames? If not that then do you know the syntax of the motion vector meta? Which values do I need to parse to do a find and replace to size everything back to 100%?
The other issue is that I need to screen color blend the clips, how can I use composite as well as screen? Is there some kind of cheat to use two transitions like a transparent clip or empty title?
1. save the project before and after adding keyframes, then compare the files (xml format). those values you can then change. Keep backups.
2. You probably will have to duplicate the top clip and force its transition to work with with the bottom video track.

abandoning installation from ppa, and switching to appimage version helped me. No idea why its missing from ppa o.0
