I tried that but couldn't ever get it to work for some reason. Might be that I'm on the deb stable as I use a depreciated audio effect fairly regularly (plate reverb)
Thank you for your tutorial. Now it is much more simpler. Juste run the Hardware detection, let your GPU detect and activate CUDA and VAAPI and use a profile like Generic HD. Then Kdenlive uses the GPU.
Appendum: Something breaks the master effects layer when you replace the files. Probably it is the profiles or other ff* files nowadays. Atleast the crop effect is destroyed.
I really want something like this for my Linux AMD laptop to work....Rendering using the VAAPI H264 (40 min video taking over an hour) is much slower than using the default MP4-H264/AAC (40 min video taking 45-55 minutes).....Since i'm constantly rendering large videos i need a solution to speed things up.....Pls Help!
Unfortunately I don't know about VAAPI as I don't have any computers with AMD. Look at the source code (I think its on github) and see if compiling from source on your machine can help with VAAPI
It seems like it might be fixed in the latest version. I'm still using the shotcut files but I don't need to use a custom preset anymore, just the GPU ones Kdenlive comes with
One more thing, you don't need Shotcut. Just in your render settings find Hardware Accelerated (experimental) and under that select NVENC H264 VBR

CBR - Constant Bitrate
VBR - Variable Bitrate
kool idea 👊
keep it up

So basically: update ffmpeg and tweak options. Weird, because Shotcut comes bundled 4.3.2, the exact same version that is available on Ubuntu and Pop.
Yeah its bizzare, but its a pretty easy thing to set up
Will it not break when you update Kdenlive?
We are two years further now, any feedback?
I haven't needed it lately, kdenlive seems to use Nvidia GPUs with the included settings nowadays
Is this still necessary or have they fixed this in Kdenlive?

My file size just jumped up to 2.5 the file size of the mp4..aac file size. That's not acceptable! !
From what? aac is an audio file, mp4 is a video file which is by default going to be larger since is has audio AND video.
