It takes all three phases to win. Defense and special teams are struggling. Injuries have devastated us. Tough when no CMC, Deebo, JJ, BA, Dre. CMC and Dre losses are huge.
One could add that the team has been curiously unable to "make plays" at crucial moments. In both of the "blown" games within the division (Rams, Cardinals) there was a series of plays that had the 49ers executed they would have won. They failed every time. This included the fumble by Mason deep in the red zone. In the Chiefs' game, the team was down 21-12 and driving toward the end zone when Purdy threw a horrible interception. Overall, the team has developed a "find a way to lose" pattern that reflects--what? I suppose sports psychologists might have something to offer here, but it is baffling how a team can ideally become more than the sum of its parts , but in the case of the current 49ers, they seem to be far less.
I wonder how much of this has been influenced by the psychological effects of a Super Bowl loss. Though I can only speculate what the exact psychological implications are, I would imagine that the effects can be widespread, and more likely than not to play an intangible but crucial role in affecting the organization as a whole.
@daneberhardt8658 Shanahan is cooked. He's the reason why we've lost both SB's. This, "genius" overthinks things and has been out coached multiple times by Andy Reid. We had a far superior team at the SB and our coach failed us
They were supposed to be the premier roster in the NFL, so if it’s not the players then it must be the coaching, maybe they need to hand out more large guaranteed salaries, it sure seems to be the curse for this year.
Reading off stats doesn't explain why they are not getting it done it just shows problem areas. 1-Injuries to key players? 2- has the defense been hobbled by scheme changes? Ineffective coaching? 3- has the offense been limited by becoming stagnant and repetitive? Have defensive coordinators figured out kyles tendencies and schemed to shut the offense down? 4- has the offense become predictable each week with no new plays and putting too much on the young quarterback. Forcing him to throw long slow developing pass plays that are not compatible with the strength of this OLine? Saying Brock was bad against the chiefs when he didn't have his 3 top receivers that he has timing and route experience with is half of the problem. Putting the game on a 2nd years QBs shoulders with all the problems this offense has is too much to ask. McCaffrey was a big part of the passing game last year. His absence is beyond huge. Next time if you are going to read stats please just stop. It's like going to the doctor who tells you that: You have high blood pressure You are retaining water Your blood work shows elevated liver enzymes, possible kidney problems, your PSA'S are up with potential prostate issues. See you next time I think you would want a better diagnoses
Thx Matt, lots of questions but no answers unfortunately. When you don’t know what’s wrong you go back to first principles, but that’s hard to do mid-season. If a player or coach is not performing, regardless of who it is, they need to be reminded that this is the 49ers. Do better.
I didn’t think the defense was going to be a strength because of the many changes on the d-line and no Greenlaw. But I thought the DBs would play better. They don’t seem to communicate well.
I think the Red Zone is THE biggest problem with the several for this team. A better conversion rate (TD's instead of FG's) and some of these games are put away and the record is over .500
They are missing key players they need ,cmc is a red zone machine, greenlaw provides a physical presence, missed tackles,no run stopper in the middle, right side of the offensive line isn't holding up ,but they are hold alot, running game needs more attention, Brock throwing lots of downfield passes he doesn't need to do,utilize kittle more he's gonna get you yac yards when he gets touches, special teams is horrendous.
The niners are killing me and this season is almost a write off . Injuries, special teams etc is an issue . Wow never would of thought it would be so early but it is
At what point once you get past the injuries…will you begin to discuss coaching? On tape it looks like we were taken to cleaners in all phases of the game. That’s not just bad play.
Deebo lining up at RB doesn't scare anyone. Purdy scrambling from O Line breakdowns and under/overthrowing. No separation by the receivers. Team looked gassed by the 4th quarter lulling themselves to sleep enough for the Rams and Cardinals to take over the lead. Special teams return coverage are a mess. Low seed Wild Card if optimistic
I miss when Eddie D was the beating heart and soul of the 49ers. Jed York is more of a stingy wallet. It’s hard to be motivated by that. Motivation is the glue that binds a bunch of players into a team with a shared goal. It spurs players to improve, to exceed expectations. Our team is suffering from costly injuries, inadequate depth, coaching mistakes, misfortune, and hubris. Jed should loosen some purse strings and spend for quality from the top down. Don’t forget that opponents are not sleeping on the 49ers like they used to. It’s a bigger feather in their cap to beat the 49ers now. So they’re extra prepared and energized, making progress for us more difficult. My advice: Be bold. Prepare better than the other guys. Outthink them. Spend money on quality personnel.
There are many answers some of which we don't know. But yhe coaches and players better get it fixed if they want to salvage this season. If they want to a pass and give it he'll next year then keep doing what they are doing.
Injuries,, red Zone, ST but also mental..I really think some of this is emotional, mental etc...Dallas should (hopefully) bring out the dawgs in them !
Because they’re cooked. They’re one of the oldest rosters with the most post mileage. Last year was THE year. If it were gonna happen last year was it. They’re cooked now.
Accountability. Bad players dont get benched. Cambell has been awful. Still in. Ronnie bell has been awful since he was drafted. Still in. Bad coaches dont get fired. Special teams has been awful for 2 seasons. The oline has missed more blocks, especially in critical moments, despite personal changes. No changes to these coaches. No accountability.
No two seasons are the same. Teams churn over about 25 percent of their roster every year. So like players and coaches, you dont compare last season to this season which some fans have yet to understand. Lota of football left to make the playoffs and a SB run but that not to say it will happen just still it is a possibility.
No passion no fire no heart no desire no urgency..... complacent millionaires with guaranteed contracts.... performance based contracts would change all their attitudes
And performance-based contracts would mean that the 49ers would only have players on their roster who have no other options with the 31 other NFL teams.
@@mattmaiocconfl yes lol ... but the point being just cannot instill brave heart lion passion into all players like the Greenlaw and Rice types....too few of them exists in today's modern NFL gladiator
That's the one area where he has been very good consistently. He's not a rah-rah guy or gives motivational speeches that has guys rolling their eyes. He focuses on the moment and how things should look and how they can be corrected.
Thank you Matt! I always feel like I'm getting Niner info from a friend when I watch you!!
It takes all three phases to win. Defense and special teams are struggling. Injuries have devastated us. Tough when no CMC, Deebo, JJ, BA, Dre. CMC and Dre losses are huge.
Thank you for all your insight Matt.
My pleasure!
CMC is just a redzone wizard
Especially with this O Line
That doesn’t explain it. We were a good team pre cmc. The defense keeps shutting the bed

Fans: Why have the 49ers been below average through seven games?
Maiocco: “It’s everything.”
Haha. Yep. That about sums it up. But there are specific areas in each of "everything."
I wonder how much of this has been influenced by the psychological effects of a Super Bowl loss. Though I can only speculate what the exact psychological implications are, I would imagine that the effects can be widespread, and more likely than not to play an intangible but crucial role in affecting the organization as a whole.
A LOT. This isn’t discussed enough. It’s actually why they need to begin trading away personnel to get assets. This core group are cooked
@daneberhardt8658 Shanahan is cooked. He's the reason why we've lost both SB's. This, "genius" overthinks things and has been out coached multiple times by Andy Reid. We had a far superior team at the SB and our coach failed us
Our team is so bad. I remember this team back in the early 2000’s which is why I’m shocked. The roster too expensive to play like this
Great, balanced reporting. Right in the middle of negative Grant and overly optimistic Larry.
They were supposed to be the premier roster in the NFL, so if it’s not the players then it must be the coaching, maybe they need to hand out more large guaranteed salaries, it sure seems to be the curse for this year.
They don't have the premier roster, especially with the injuries.
Reading off stats doesn't explain why they are not getting it done it just shows problem areas.

I think losing in the Super Bowl took a lot out of them to begin with. That and the injuries. Still hoping Saleh comes back.
Even when they score in the red zone it requires a ridiculously tight window throw. Aiyuks decline this year had a massive impact as well
I didn’t think the defense was going to be a strength because of the many changes on the d-line and no Greenlaw. But I thought the DBs would play better. They don’t seem to communicate well.

Easy…two unnecessary holdouts, Kyle being Kyle, and injuries. Yet we have 10 games to get things right.
Too many individuals on this team starting with the coaching staff on down. It seems they’ve settled for mediocrity. Rest easy Eddie D.

KC had 187 rushing yards against the 49ers
Embarrassing that they did not prepare for Mahomes running…..letting him run wild was so frustration.
Too many injuries to key players!
Injuries,, red Zone, ST but also mental..I really think some of this is emotional, mental etc...Dallas should (hopefully) bring out the dawgs in them !
Purdy is turning over the ball way too much. Just cut that down, and they'll win.
Because they’re cooked. They’re one of the oldest rosters with the most post mileage. Last year was THE year. If it were gonna happen last year was it. They’re cooked now.
Even when the Niners had a healthy Deebo,CMC,Aiyuk,Trent,
Kittle,And greenlaw n Warner kyle couldn’t put a gameplan to beat the chiefs
We are running more in red zone with less success, boy Genius is at play
NO MCAFFEREY
NO WIN
PERIOD

cause 49ers fans dont buy POM-POM$ 😂😂😂😂

Team has zero depth. Which likely means we are developing guys very well. That or we are to top heavy especially if they are watching from the bench.
Purdy has not been good....say it Maiocoo
I've said that several times since Sunday, haven't I?
No passion no fire no heart no desire no urgency..... complacent millionaires with guaranteed contracts.... performance based contracts would change all their attitudes

49ers will get rid of Kyle on 2025 farewell kyle season
Is Kyle A Leader Of A 53 Man Roster
