I'm somewhat concerned about their depth at safety. Reading the transcript on Kyle's last statement on Hufanga's return. He's hopeful but it's still kind of up in the air.
Can you talk about Carlson not kicking it out vs cowboys? I thought Carlson couldn't kick it out, per Kyle previous comments... but he is 6 5 220lbs from Google search and he did kick one deep into the endzone, so we know he can. But why with the Cowboy threat of returning and our poor kick coverage was he still kicking it into play. Seems like terrible strategy to be kicking into play vs anyone much less the Cowboys and yet Kyle still does this even after saying previously that they would kick it out of play if they could.
Anders Carlson is not capable of kicking it out the back of the end zone consistently. Last year, he had touchbacks on just 43 percent of his kickoffs, compared to Jake Moody's 60 percent. This year, Moody had gotten that up to 82 percent (but kicks generally travel further earlier in the season when the weather is warm). The 49ers want to kick it deep and make sure there are no returns, but you have to have a kicker who can do it.
@mattmaiocconfl I hear you on that, David touched on that, but I beg to differ. He was short kicking with only a 2 or 3 step running wind up, however with the full 6 step running wind up he kicked it to the back of the endzone. Wind could be a factor but why isn't Kyle having him full run 6 to 7 steps and at least get it inside or hopefully deeper in the endzone, with that short 3 step run up we know he gets it right near the goal line. If he really is 220lbs no way he can't get it deep into the endzone everytime with a full wind up. Wright looks like 160 soak and wet so I get it with him, but with Carlson I still don't believe he can't get it 5 to 8 yards deep into the endzone everytime after a full run up, again we saw it 1 time vs Dallas. Thanks again for the insights/opinions I just hope the ST gets the best chance to not fail bc that kick coverage will haunt us in the playoffs for sure!
I have to agree, I don't get it either. He did it that one time so why not the others; especially when every time anyone returns a punt or KO we look so scarily vulnerable. Is it anything to do with saving the leg stamina for FG's?
Is a player like austin hooper available. Everyone keeps saying dline. But with gross-matos coming back soon. I can't see the 49ers trading draft capital for dline help. Instead of a wideout, the 49ers love to attack the middle of the field and the blocking ability.
A day in the life of Matt Maiocco would be amazing content. Thank you Matt!
It would probably be quite boring, but I appreciate you! 😂

A 6th or 7th round pick to strengthen the Dline would seem sensible. Seb Joseph Day or Arden Key woud hit the ground running from the Texans.
Azeez is in Houston Matt!
Ugh. Yes, he is. Obviously, they're not trading him.
@ unfortunately probably not 😂
Hoping for a trade, also hoping that player doesnt go through a post-trade slump.
Surprisingly I thought Campbell played his best game Sunday vs the Cowboys.
Great work MM. Hopefully we fill a hole or two on the roster. Having CMC and Greenlaw come back would be huge though.
Thank you for your comment. It will be interesting to see what they do before 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Let's just be happy he's nailing kicks ok

That's a good name, Austin Hooper. He's not going to cost much in the way of salary or draft pick.
Go out and get the best tackler out there too many missed tackles
Why even bring up Chase Young’s name⁉️ Been there, done that. He’s a bust. Totally ineffective‼️What’s the matter with you⁉️
It's not fair to the fans to depend on rookies. We seen flowers on Baltimore and Gibbs on Detroit and Jake Modey with us.lets not depend of rookies.
Pretty obvious you haven’t been watching this game very long. You’re probably a rookie yourself at football knowledge. 😂😂🤣😂
