At my interviews I mostly talked about how my father worked for a New Jersy cement company owned by Italians, and that his job was mostly to "fix problems" for them, and how disappointed he'd be if I wasn't accepted. I got into every college I applied to.

@@zahraammadani I had 7 interviews when I applied(5 ivies + Stanford + mit) and none of the alumni got my application.
The point is not to have a random alumni(who probably doesn’t know what they’re doing) evaluate your application. The point is to have an alumni get to know you as a person via conversation so reading a 10+ page application for every interviewee would be tiresome and unnecessary for the alumni. I was also told this by my college councellor. I only have a sample size of 7 so it’s possible some college gives their alumni interviewers the applications but this would be far from ordinary.

hi! can Olivia talk a bit more about how she was able to have interviews that effectively "displayed herself" (Harvard, Princeton, Stanford) rather than an interview that was shallow and just glossed over her character?

Hi there! I personally tried to be a bit more casual in my interviews- I found that when I took that approach I ended up getting into more meaningful conversations. For example, I would still be professional, but I would make small jokes and ask my interviewer questions about their life which allowed us to connect initially and then organically flow into a deeper conversation about something we both cared about! It's truly just about being yourself and being honest with your answers and it will happen. :)

hi! in another video I think Olivia mentioned her involvement in organizing, so I was wondering what yalls thoughts are on the Stanford Social Justice Center? it got mocked on twitter recently since colleges are pretty ~elitist~ and then take an academia angle to grassroots issues, but before I read those tweets it was a big reason for why I wanted to apply to Stanford. do you think that's a valid criticism/what has been your experience with it? thank you for making these videos!

Hi there! I personally have not heard of the Stanford Social Justice Center but I definitely agree with the critique that was raised. I think that is an issue at almost all 'elite' institutions. However, I personally have found that there a ton of amazing activism based student groups at Stanford that do tangible and important work on campus and elsewhere. Definitely still apply to Stanford if you are interested because on campus there are so many resources available to engage in meaningful grassroots organizing and work surrounding social justice (see @stanfordswr on Instagram for a great example of student-initiated activism)! Thanks for watching :)
