VERY (DETAILED) HONDA CIVIC TIMING BELT CHANGE/REPLACEMENT FOR ALL 1996- 2000 HONDA CIVICS

  • I show you how easy it is to change the Timing Belt and tensioner on this 1998 Honda Civic 1.6L. Timing belt kit (Belt, pulley & tensioner) all cost under "$55" for the parts. The procedure may be different for other vehicles but the principles are the same. The first tool you should grab is your repair manual, do your research, then attack it with no fear. Hope this helps you with your project. One day you will stand before God, make sure you get it right before you do, repent and get your life right with Jesus Christ, your soul will be required of you God Bless. Warrior 4 Christ.

I am a pro mechanic for 30 years, great video, love the balloon. If it was mine I would replace the water pump, the cam and crank oil seal. The water pump is especially important if it bails and the timing belt comes off you bend the valves in the head. What you showed was detailed, fires class good stuff.

I'm gonna be changing my timing belt kit tomorrow on my 2000 Honda Civic Dx D16y7 motor and I know these motors are counterclockwise and I've heard your not suppose to turn these motors clockwise but ever so slightly. I got lucky on this 2000 Honda with only 71,325 when I bought it and it now has 74,000 on the nose. I'm changing the timing belt because of the year it's 19 years old and I'm unsure if it ever been changed so I'm changing it. Out of every video here on youtube about changing timing belts on a Honda, I chose to watch yours because you not only show us but you talk to us step by step. God has blessed you with good hands and a teachable mouth. A lot of people like to make fast money (DRUGS) but as I can see you love to earn your money as I do. Because when you buy stuff for yourself or others you know you put in hard work for what you earned. God bless you man and keep doing what you're doing and I will post tomorrow after I do my honda and I will let you know the aftermath. One thing I saw in this video is a lot of people already put the spring on the tensioner and have to fight to put the belt on so I'm gonna do mine the same exact way.

Thank you to people like you who post these videos. I mean I already knew how to do this, but it still was reassuring in making life a hell of a lot easier watching this video. It's people like this that make the technical textbook talk simple. I do own this exact vehicle, and mine has 200,000 miles on it. My timing belt has NEVER been touched. Therefore, I've been planning on doing this for awhile now.

wassup brotha!!! just letting u know i dont have much experience working on cars--except what i teach myself. after watching many civic timing videos on youtube, your attn to detail and teaching techniques have really helped me in starting my own timing belt job for a 99 civic. i was really worried about starting such a difficult job, but you really break down the job and give those like me without formal skills some direction and strength. your videos kick ass-you break it down but keep it real
    your videos are very inspiring!!!

  • @myownspiritlevel

Good video. Your procedures vary somewhat from the factory service manual, but you got the job done. I'm wondering about the extra tension you put the belt under. The FSM states to turn the crank pulley CCW the equivalent of three teeth on the cam sprocket, which puts the belt under tension. Then while holding that tension, tighten the tensioner pulley bolt. It says nothing about helping the spring make the belt tighter. Consequently, the "slack side" is somewhat slack, which leads to a nagging feeling that it isn't tight enough. So, I can see why you'd give the tensioner pulley a little help, but I wonder if there's a reason the Honda engineers decided on just the spring tension? Premature wear on the water pump bearing or timing belt itself?
Incidentally, the replacement spring has fewer coils than the one it replaced, so add that to the nagging feeling. :o

Really great video thanks to you I did the head gasket and the timing belt on my civic 1997 same engine like two years ago. I did it in the same way you show in the video and the job was good the car runs good without a problem and now I have a problem with my civic. When I step on the gas the car stumbles after every shift i made,is stick shift. Can you help me if you have any idea what it could be? Thank you in advance. You are very good working on cars. 👍

Why try to find TDC with timing cover on? Why not just take it off than rotate motor over to find it?
