Namaskar, doston! Our journey through Nepal just got even more enchanting! After a memorable Thakali feast with my dear friend Seema Golchha…. Rupali, Mubin, and I set out for a place that holds over 250 years of history-the oldest market in Kathmandu.
The weather added to the drama with a gentle rain as we strolled through the bustling streets, surrounded by centuries-old temples and vibrant shops. They say that once upon a time, Kathmandu had more temples than houses, and it truly felt like stepping back in time.
Meeting the lovely people here was an experience beyond words. Many recognized me from my films and food vlogs, and their warmth, kindness, and love were overwhelming. A few even serenaded us with local songs and strummed their guitars-a heartfelt welcome that I’ll cherish forever.
We explored the charming Pote Bazar, where every shop has its own story, and then moved on to historic sites like Durbar Square and Vishal Bazar. There’s a unique charm to each corner of this city; it’s like the soul of Nepal reveals itself with every step.

You might be surprised to learn that the history of Indrachowk Market stretches back an impressive 500 years. During that time, Kathmandu served as a vital trade route to Tibet, accessible through the Kerung-Kuti low-hill pass. The market area now famous for pote (glass bead jewelry) was once frequented by traders from Armenia and Central Asia. In those days, it was even known as "Raki Bazar." I am not really sure if the word 'Raki' has any connection with modern day Iraq though!

Actually it's more than 2500 years old market. Ancient Kantipur was divided into 2 halves with these bazaars in the center part between them. Most of the festivals like Indra jatra addresses this by routing the chariots in these different areas in different days
