Very thorough and concise review Richard, thanks. It's too bad for Sigma that they took so long to release this lens. I picked up the Sony 70-200 GM2 over a year ago, but I would have considered this lens if it was available, for the cost and also because I prefer black lens bodies. That said, I have no regrets with the Sony version, and I love the reduced weight and handhold-ability.
Thank you for another excellent and complete review. As a new S5iiX owner, I am definitely interested in this lens. I have plenty of experience with heavy lenses like the Tamron 35-150 in E mount, and might hold off to see if something similar becomes available for L mount later this year. If not, this lens looks like a fine option.
+1 vote for comparison to Panasonic 70-200 2.8. interesting in stabilizer. As I know dual IS doesn't work with non Panasonic glass (ois only). and also interesting in sharpness comparison.
I will see if i have a chance to do a test against the Lumix S Pro in the future. My understanding is that dual I.S. works on Lumix body works with Sigma lenses as it's part of the L-mount alliance standard.
Great review as always! This is on my shortlist for my L-mount gear, but I don't know if I'm ready to give up my Olympus 40-150/2.8 with MFT quite yet!
My understanding is that Dual Stabilisation doesn't work with third party lenses on E mount, but Dual I.S. should work on Lumix L-mount body as it's part of the L-mount standard
Seems like it was not thought out or engineered well for users. The bracket, hood and switches could be updated, given other companies are making better designs. Looks like a nice lens, but it's a traditional heavy Sigma lens. I was hoping Sigma would up their game and follow other manufacturers towards smaller and lighter lenses on mirrorless bodies
Great review Richard...unfortunately I will keep my Lumix 70-200mm F2.8 ... I was hoping that Sigma will do lighter and better lens... Lumix one still beast 💪
New firmware update for E mount version of this lens removed the autofocus speed limitation when on the A9III allowing up to 120fps.
Thank you very much for the info

thank you for watching chrid999. It is true it really took Sigma quite a while to release this lens.
Do you plan to compare it with the Panasonic versions?
Nothing planned at the momennt, but I will see if i have a chance to do that in the future and compare with the Lumix S Pro

hey Sam, thanks for watching! The Olympus is still much smaller and lighter than the Sigma if you want a more compact setup.
Thank you so much for showing me my next lens in this excellent review, Richard!
Great job as always.
Thanks for watching NO SECOND LOST :)
Hello ! manual focus in video is linear ?
Sorry I already returned the lens so I can't double check but I believe it's non linear
Does dual stabilization work on E mount or L mount versions?

L-mount version review?
Image quality looks good, but I'm really curious to see it's AF performance for L-mount since almost review of this lens is for E mount.

thanks! I will see if i have a chance to test the L-mount version in the future :)
I do have more L-mount reviews coming in the near future!

That's not "unfortunately" at all! The Lumix S Pro 70-200 f/2.8 is an amazing lens! :D
