I've been wanting a mild tele with good sunstars, and the Meike delivers. The Panasonic looks good at larger apertures, but F5.6-8 is the typical range for landscapes. So I may pick up the Meike eventually. Thanks for the review.
Not sure why everyone is so obsessed with absolute sharpness and zero chromatic aberration. The lumix still looks great unless your pixel peeping, and it feels more organic. Can’t explain why
I don't think everyone is obsessed with absolute sharpness..etc When I buy lenses, I actually don't care so much about sharpness as long as it's good enough. And 90% of lenses these days are good enough. I do care more about bad CA and lens flare performance as if it's too bad, then it could ruin the photo in my opinion. However a bit of lens flare is not a big issue, i like it actually for artistic reasons. However as a reviewer I do need to point out the strength and weakness to allow you guys to decide if it matters to you or not. What I would like to see is more lenses that focus less about being technically perfect.. in return lenses that are smaller/easier to carry and more fun to shoot.
@@TheRealRichardWong I don’t feel like you are obsessed with sharpness as a creator. You’ve made that clear in many of your videos. I just feel like so much of the photography community cares about “optical perfection” over anything else.
The LUMIX 85mm 1.8 goes for $349 in used-like-new condition on a popular used camera site. With its light weight and weather sealing, that’s probably going to be my pick.
Those sunstars on the Meike are very nice, thanks for the demonstration. Too bad about the uncorrected distortion though, makes for a bit more work in post. Altogether though, a nice lens for those who don't need the fastest AF.
Hey nice review, and congrats on the free lens. Looks like a good lens for 1.4 which is great to see in L mount. Shame about the autofocus, I wonder if Viltrox is ever going to build lenses for L mount. I recently have been falling in love with their pro and even non pro lenses.
thanks for watching. Yes it would be interested to see what other 3rd party lens companies will do! I know more than one Chinese optics company are interested (I can't say the name)
Hi NORTHWEST HOTSPOTS, yes Meike just released the new 35 f/2 for L and they have asked if I can review their lens. Unfortunately my Sept/Oct is already pretty busy with some other reviews/personal commitments so I have to turn down their offer this time.
I would encourage people to question whether they need a f/1.4 at all - I always wanted one, but now I've got a 85mm f/1.8 (Viltrox, excellent lens) - I don't feel any need for f/1.4. I'd rather have a smaller, lighter f/1.8!
Hi Sakaphoto, sorry i can't say if they are good or not. There were some firmware updates I was hoping to see that has never arrived, but then i just look at their website, it seems they are constantly releasing new firmware: www.mkgrip.com/down.html My suggestion is, buy the lens if you are perfectly happy or OK with what it is right now. Consider any firmware update a bonus/surprise.
hi Mitch, Meike has asked if i can review that lens, unfortunately I already got a very busy review schedule and other personal commitments for the next few months so i'm not able to review this lens even though i really want to. 35mm is my favourite focal length.
@@ТарасГалишко-х9ц the flange distance of these two mounts are too close , only 0.75mm. That makes it virtually impossible to make an adaptor between these two mounts
The AF is not good enough for video, the lens profile is buggy, huge focus breathing, the colors are way too different to mix with first party lenses. Let’s check back in a couple of years …
I wonder what is the legal status of the Meike L- Mount lenses. As far as i know Meike isn't part of L mount alliance and L Mount doesn't allow lenses from outside the alliance members.
I think it's just like third party for the Z mount. Nikon didsn't approve most of them maybe apart from Sigma or Tamron, but all the companies like Meike, Viltrox still make them. The only one that went nasty is Canon that send letters to third party companies
Wow, it's amazing how much better CA is with the Meike 85mm over the Lumix 85mm. CA is one of the negatives of Lumix f/1.8 lenses. And the Meike bokeh and sun stars are pretty awesome!!
@@shumshum4088 Sorry about that... CA is short for Chromatic Aberration. Regardless of the Lumix f/1.8 lenses having more CA, I still really like the Lumix lenses!!
Price is very similar, so would you choose the Meike or the Lumix?
Nice vid Rich ! The Meike seems solid, nice images I still think I would choose the Lumix.
I wouldn't trust Chinese brand as much as Panasonic, yet.
Nice review, I would pick the Meike. I want a portrait lens for paid job. The picture quality is imprssive and i love the BOKEH! 😍
you forgot to change the mm in the AF comparison, it still reads 50mm

nice sunflare comparison. what about sigma f1.4 vs meike ?need comparison for this two
thanks! I thought of doing that, but it's a bit hard to borrow Sigma L mount lenses (especially when I'm mainly reviewing other lenses)

You rock too Peter!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
That f1.4 bokeh looks nice!

Do you know if Meike has been consistent with firmware updates? I'm interested in the lens, but I'm concerned about problems not being resolved.

Why won't Lumix make an adapter for lenses from L-mount to micra 4/3? for example, i have both sistems and it's will be very interesting for me...
