I have a 2018 gypsy and got my Jimny in June . Frankly I am satisfied with Jimny. I opted for the Zeta AT model. I have done more than 10000 kms and avg mileage is between 14.5 to 17.5 depending on driving conditions . The ride quality is amazing . I have done some off-roading with stock tyres and believe me there were no issues on sand and mud conditions. Waiting for snowfall here in Dalhousie to see if Jimny is as capable as gypsy in snow.
Thanks for the views and FE figures. I guess 14-17 kpl for an off roader is very good. Helps in inching towards getting the Jimny, now that costs are reduced with the Thunder edition.
Bro.. Your review totally made it clear.. Jimny has been my dream car ever since it was a three door but wasnt launched in India.. I had delayed the purchase and fortunately got the thunder edition discounts and I am taking my delivery of the zeta Manual tomorrow .. But more over i have had loads of suggestions coming from friends and family for other cars in the market.. But I live in the mountains(Darjeeling) so i tested the car on an offroad trail and it blew me away and surely brought a huge smile.. no use of doing 100+ kmph cause its all about a car which can take you anywhere.. Congrats on your ride and maybe one day will catch up if i can drive to chennai . CHeers bro.. Your smile brought a huge smile on my face too.. God bless
Sir i seem to be in the same position as you were, had been following the three door version and was waiting for the same to come to india and as a add on it came as 5 door, yesterday I did the test drive for the first time and it blew me off both in city highway in shimla and small off road patch and btoh roads it managed amazingly. I have a gypsy king 2014. I wanted to ask one thing what's your local mountain mileage?? If driving on standard tyres and not offroad ones?????
@silverbeast865 . I have done just 600kms and the gauge is showing a max mileage of 10.8 km/ltr .. let's hope it improves slightly.. will tune the car soon also there are lags at times when I need the power..
Mr Guru, I don't know if I'll ever buy the Jimny. But I must say you revved well, you were absolutely smooth with the acceleration when it came to the lucidity of your narration, there were no jerks with your thoughts, the headlights of your automobile knowledge shone bright and clear and you sat with good verbal support to your expressions and I, on my part, derived huge mileage as a listener. Thank you! 😂

Its always good to hear from you. I own the Alpha AT here in Mizoram. Most of us having AT have 8-10 km/l. Regarding the sound- Adding a pair of tweeter change the sound a lot! happy Jimmying!
A transparent owner review. Addition of EVC is wonderful. If I'm correct the similar device is available in Coimbatore for all cars both diesel and petrol. In 1994 till 2002 I was using Gypsy, the first was the 1984 model CKD which was awesome. Since I owned a coffee estate in valparai, anamalai hills for commuting and moreover it's a jeepable road 4 wd high is used for 3 kms and low for 2.6 kms. At times it was used to carry 250 to 300 kgs of fertilizer etc.with ease. Only customizations were extra spring plates in the front and rear was added. It was a work horse, mileage was only 6or 7 kmpl inside the property. For normal drive 12 kmpl. Actually I owned 4 different gypsy 2 were the old versions the next 2 were 410 W. After gypsy I switched to M&M commander with xdp engine. Now I'm planning to go in for JIMNY after ua review. The manual version will be advisable!!. Hope the highway ride will be comfortable for 3 of us. Please give us valuable suggestions.
The only issue for you would be that the Jimny is rated for 340/350 kilo payload. 4 passengers plus luggage has to be within that number. Also as a comfortable passenger car running on coil springs, it is not suitable for carrying load. I would always go for a vehicle with leaf springs if I wanted to carry heavy loads on a day to day basis.
Thank you forsuch an honest & detailed updated review. In the U.K. I have had the original SWB version for 3 years, and most of your comments apply to this version also. I also drive a 2012 Defeder, but thje Jimny is far more responsive & even at my age, fun to drive. I just need the LWB version to make me really happy.! I live completely off-road, so a 4WD vehicle is a necessity, not a luxury, which is why I crave a LWB Jimny! I have also replaced the original tyres on the Jimny; the originals gave very poor grip on my track when it's muddy.
Great real live user review Guru. I still remember your Gypsy videos back from 2010 when you had gone to the delaership to inspect your Gypsy before taking delivery. I got a brand new Gypsy in 2016 and Im glad that I did. I visit India every year and every time I drive this lovely 4X4, it gives me so much satisfaction and joy that my 535i does not. Keep up the good work buddy.
Oh wow that's really amazing! Nothing quite like buying a Gypsy new because nobody cares at the dealership 😂 They just want you gone with that eyesore so the pretty Altos and Wagon Rs can be delivered in peace. Thanks for reviving that memory ❤
Nice review. Unbiased honest thoughts. Happy to see the Gypsy guest appearance 🤩 It will be interesting to have a comparison between Manual vs Automatic in multiple scenarios. Off-road, city traffic, urban and highways.
@gsrox2007, Guru your previous review and this review has been phenomenal. Both are detailed and to the point. You have told views from your own experience that you got from gypsy. i really appreciate that i got to listen to these two videos. and i could feel the smile on ur face after you switched on the throttle device. Keep going brother and thanks again.
I have the manual. Only upgrde so far is the tyres: 215. The manual gives me control over gears. It allows me to still milk as much peppiness from it as possible. It doesn't feel as sluggish and disappointing as many AT users find it to be, who are rushing to get a throttle controller. I've used it on full load at altitudes up to 3500m. The only time I really felt the lack of power was while doing long stretches of steep inclines, where the car suddenly starts bonking and needs prior downshifting ( to first, even second at higher speeds doesn't cut it). My other cars would do the same patch easily on 2nd. now ill get a TC too and hope it further improves the responsiveness. Very happy with the decision to go for manual.
Nothing quite like a good old manual transmission. The auto is definitely easier to live with off-road and you'll have fewer scenarios with a burnt clutch. The Auto also doesn't stall as much so less frustrating on the rocky bits. That said, the best solution is to have one of each eh? :) Cheers!

Very sharp and original views. I don't have one but was planning tuis year end. Every bit of feel for the car felt very realistic may it be the front grill or about the tyre size upgrade need. Well done.
Great review. I could watch this video without skipping any part of it. Way more informative and buyer/user friendly then many other auto reviews. Great observations and Pro unbiased feedback. Keep up the good work.
Love this, excellent review and mods! The grill does stand out a lot and in a nice way. I learnt driving in a gypsy and love how they kept the speedometer the same as the gypsy; gives it that familiar nostalgic touch. Hope someday I will be able to buy the manual; will probably take the overtakes and the throttle response issues.😄
Thank you for making this video! You've shared a lot of useful observations about the Jimny. I have watched the video twice now to go over all the points. Oh, and that front grill looks excellent!
Good real world use review. The evc addition seems to be making a huge difference. And the Riggear seats must help a lot in Chennai. The other functional stuff is also appreciated.
A cool butt and lower back is a blessing in Chennai humidity. 18L and no ventilated seats!! I cannot accept any vehicle without ventilated seats anymore. I hope the market forces this as a standard/optional feature in every car.
Throttle controllers … I opted for the Torqit one from Australia because it had - 1. Intelligent Mode where it learns my kind of driving 2. Has an antitheft mode which disables the accelerator. At the time of purchase it was far from the cheapest but had the features I was looking for.
I drove the manual version, below are pros and cons: 1) Front seats comfortable, enough knee room 2) Suspension is Good 3) Interior front cluster is ok ok 4) Back seat thigh support - Big no : one cant sit for even an hour 5) Gear rod felt vibrating all along the drive : Big no 6) Noise from engine - can be managed if we used to it. 7) from back seat it looked like a passenger auto so it cant be your family car. For Hilly areas you consider. However some modification needed for back seat.
Yes those back seats could have been better. All they needed to do was add a bit more recline, thigh support and a central armrest. The could have added 60:40 split OR two single seats considering this is a 4 seater. You know what? It'll be awesome with two single seats instead of this bench. Hmmm...
Neat, but I disagree on the gypsy vs JIMNY You need to check the MT JIMNY which has a different gear ratios and until then can't decide if the gypsy is the king!! Wrt the rest suspension setup, a good stiffer set of dampers should help reduce the sway experienced Good job 🎉
Does the evcx throttle controller work with Manual models? Just bought a zeta mt. Haven't done any mods besides the trays, cupholders and armrest It does feel quite slow. I'm not mad about it but would prefer it to be a bit more responsive
I didn't need: 1. Valet mode 2. Lock mode 3. Launch mode 4. Phone app Valet mode is useful and throttle lock is also quite useful particularly when you park outdoors but that's not a concern for me. Hope this helps!
Hey Guru must your review is like a pro!! I waited long for Jimny for long and i was very disappointed with the size and hight!! It just put me off!! I didn't even have a test drive!! I just went for Fronx instead, I dont regret it!! Your review kind of made me feel i was right not to buy it.
thank you for the honest feedback. I really like its size, the way it looks, the quality of sheet metal and the character it poses. The Jimny got its limitations like the 4 speed AT and lack of practicality in the cabin etc., and we knew that already, but what makes it difficult to digest is the pricing. At 18.3 lakhs on road for the Alpha AT, it is too costly for what it offers in 2023. Wish Suzuki had a better engine and gearbox to start with.
@@gsrox2007 Car prices in the Indian market are in a big bubble post Corona. Alto has no business being at 7.5 lakhs. No wonder the sales are dwindling for that. Why would anyone not pick up a brand new MG Comet for a little more and save a ton on fuel & service while having a much superior car?? Anyways, I think the bubble got a few big holes and it's going to burst in January, a lot of unsold 2023 inventory is going to bring the market back to customers.
Hi, came across your review and loved the content. I recently bought the Alpha AT and wanted to know how to buy the Ultimate9 EVC throttle controller? Searched the web but did not find any solid leads. Any help would be great in finding a trusted vendor/store for it. I’m based in Delhi. Cheers
I don't remember saying the Jimny is a hopeless car 🤔 I own one. The white Jimny in this video is mine and I love it. It is certainly not for everyone but it is just right for me.
He never said that the Indian Jimny is hopeless. Instead he said that the Indian Jimny build quality is same as and at par with international standard.
Great review, owner of one at. 1ooo kms now. Where do you pick up evc. Had gypsies too all models from 94 to 22 lpg fibre springs, except the dirt capabilities, jimny is better but the price. Best review on jimny. Your language and delivery excellent. All the best. Jj.
Hi sir , where did u order the front grill ?? and how about the weight of the grill ?Also changing the tyres and lifting it will be fined in certain states ? Is this suitable according to RTO rules and standards ??
I got my grill from Harman Impex but there are several dealers selling similar ones. This one came with Japanese instructions and I believe it is a Japan market product but who knows. Lifting moderately (2-2.5") should be ok. Bigger tires are fine as long as they don't stick out of the wheel arches.
Excellent review Guru. Very nicely presented as always. A suggestion - go for a good suspension, change the spark plugs, put a performance air filter and see how it puts an even bigger smile on your face…cheers
I'll share once I get a few upgrades done. I'm very cautious with mechanical upgrades as I tend to believe that the engineers know a little bit more than the average joe. Plenty of heavily modded Jimny videos out there already but I'll take my time with this. Thanks for the kind words!! ❤
Performance air filters allow a lot of muck into the engine, in our heavily polluted conditions. Preferable to stay with the stock air cleaner/ air filters.
@@Looktheotherway I’ve used K&N and all. I stand by what I said. The filter element is wider and more porous which enables the engine to breathe more freely. At the same time, it allows in bigger particles of impurities and grime and dust and all, as compared with the OEM filters. This has been my experience on a couple of cars and I am just staying with stock.
@@shankarbalan3813 thank you for your valuable inputs Shankar. Am on the way to reverting to OEM. Your logic is impeccable as always. Did some lookup and found your inputs spot on.
To be very honest, this is most details review i found on RUclips. I would really appreciate if you can answer my query. I want to buy a Jimny Manual, please suggest should i go for this or not. If Yes, please tell me the reason If No, why it so .
Thank you for your support ❤ The Manual is fun to drive. It should deliver better mileage in the city but the automatic delivers better mileage on the highway due to the final gear ratio in 4th (AT) vs 5th (MT). You need an additional 400 rpm approximately in the MT to maintain 100 kph. The AT is also easier to drive off road because it doesn't stall. I would pick the AT if the budget allows.
Yes the EVC makes it easier to get up to speed with the Jimny. Overtakes are easier. It will affect the mileage if you drive around in ultimate mode all the time. Mileage may improve if driven in Eco/Auto modes carefully. Long term testing is needed to arrive at exact figures. I'm not too concerned with the mileage, just want to have some fun with the Jimny!
Thank you very much for the review sir. I bought the Jimny Zeta manual white last month. Not even completed 800kms The throttle controller which is fitted in your Jimny, will be suitable for my manual one. Please provide & empower me with your most valued suggestions. I am at Rajapalayam. I love mountains and forests. I often visit Mudumalai and Sathyamangalam. Till today I have not done any off roading. Thanking you for reading my comment. Jaihind
Hi! Mr. Guru, Would you please share about how you procured the EVC controller. Your videos have been instrumental in my decision to purchase a jimny alpha and I want to get the EVC fitted on my jimny as well.
I used to do this with my Pajero SFX. Using 4H provided much better handling. The Pajero super select system is far superior to the basic transfer case in the Jimny. In the Jimny I'm noticing a lot of resistance even in sight turns in 4H. I'm not sure what speeds are OK in 4H. I wouldn't use it for these reasons but I'll wait for someone with deeper technical info to chime in
It is not recommended to use 4H on Tarmac unless in certain scenarios at very high altitude. This scenario is where the AT torque converter stalls at around 2500 rpm in 2H and 4H and may not provide enough torque to move a loaded Jimny. A few people have faced this issue above 12000 feet. In these situations you may have to use even 4L to make progress even on Tarmac. It is something that needs to be done carefully and in places where you can keep the wheels as straight as possible and speed as low as possible.
Yes. I have been using it on my manual Jimny Alpha and results are perceptible and huge. It is a game changer and completely transforms the vehicle. The throttle response is crisp and instantaneous. Its even more fun on the manual than the automatic
I am very concerned about the support for the arms while driving.... I am interested in buying and this one thing is making me unsure.... I would like to rest my right arm on the window and my left arm on an arm support. Currently drive a 2007 innova which is super comfortable driving long distances and doesn't make me tired one bit even after driving 1000 kms a day. What is your suggestion? Thanks for the awesomely informative video
The stock seat is quite low in the cab. I had mentioned this in review that followed the media drive. Even for someone as tall as me it felt like I was sat too low. I use a tail bone cushion OR a ventilated seat accessory most of the time which raises me up slightly. If you add 1-1.25" with a cushion of some sort, you can rest your elbow on the window sill. The window sill is shallow and made of hard plastic so it is not very comfortable. I did drive a friend's jimny with the arm rest and it felt comfortable for the left arm BUT you lose the water bottle holder. Like I said, several compromises have to be made to own and live with the most affordable 4x4 you can buy new in India today. It is definitely not for everyone and I strongly recommend you get a long test drive to really experience the Jimny before taking a call.
100% true about chrome on body of cars! Can you give me details about where did you buy that all black honeycomb grille? Which brand and price please!! Thankyou! I'm getting ready to take delivery of jimny in a few days!
10:45 Try holding the ESP button down for 8 seconds, it will turn on” ESP maintainance mode active” which should negate the problem of electronic cutting off the power. Hope that helps.
Absolutely. It is perfect as a do-it-all. It is remarkably easy to drive around the city and my dad enjoys driving it because of the visibility, smooth engine and transmission and the way the suspension manages the bad roads. Try it out for size and take a long test drive. Let me know what you decide to do 👍🏽

6) Noise from engine - can be managed if we used to it.
7) from back seat it looked like a passenger auto
so it cant be your family car.
Hmmm...
Neat, but I disagree on the gypsy vs JIMNY
You need to check the MT JIMNY which has a different gear ratios and until then can't decide if the gypsy is the king!!
Wrt the rest suspension setup, a good stiffer set of dampers should help reduce the sway experienced
Good job 🎉
Does the evcx throttle controller work with Manual models?
Just bought a zeta mt. Haven't done any mods besides the trays, cupholders and armrest
It does feel quite slow. I'm not mad about it but would prefer it to be a bit more responsive
Lovely real time review as always.May I ask what the EVC 9 is and what are the EVC X features you did not find essential ?
I didn't need:
1. Valet mode
2. Lock mode
3. Launch mode
4. Phone app
Valet mode is useful and throttle lock is also quite useful particularly when you park outdoors but that's not a concern for me.
Hope this helps!
Awesome review.. 🙂 it will be a great help to make up my mind getting jimny next year.
7:12 that satisfying smile of a petrohead 😁. A very sensible review, thanks for putting out the vlog.
Thank you kindly! ❤
Greetings from Colombia. I also have a 5 door Jimny and I share a lot of the same feelings about this car with you
Thanks for writing in! Hope your Jimny ownership experience is fun, thrilling and trouble free!
Fiercely honest and frank review. Thank you for being so bold. God bless you
Thank you so much! 💪🏾
can you let me know from where did you buy the E V C . Can you please share the link. and how much did it cost you
Guru, that’s a phenomenal ownership report ❤
Hey Guru must your review is like a pro!! I waited long for Jimny for long and i was very disappointed with the size and hight!! It just put me off!! I didn't even have a test drive!! I just went for Fronx instead, I dont regret it!! Your review kind of made me feel i was right not to buy it.
Thanks mate! Yes it is not for everyone and the Fronx is a looker. Both have weird names so 😂
Where can we get the EVC Unit from ?
Very nice and honest review. Where did you get the spare wheel cover from? Keep up the good work. Regards.
Spare wheel cover from Harman Impex.
The chrome statement was spot on
Haha so glad so many people are anti-chrome! 😂
thank you for the honest feedback.
It is 2L overpriced but an Alto AMT is 7.5L today 😮
Car prices are just silly at the moment...
What tyres did you upgrade to?
Excellent review… completely practical and well explained
Thank you ❤
Very beautifully explained👌, thank you for sharing your experience.
Gracias! Thank you for your support!
Cheers
Great watching your review Guru
Thank you so much Sameer ❤
Straight from the heart ! Thanks for sharing
Cheers
+1 and lot of applauds for you man.... keep it up.
Gracias! Appreciate your support sir!
5:36 The Iceman!! 🙌🏻
Haha another fan of Bwoah! 😂
what particular grill is that? . it looks good .Would like to get one for myself
Japanese Samurai style. I got mine from Harman Impex.
Thank you for the info 😀
The front grill looks amazing, where did you purchase it from? What was the price?
Harman Impex. This is the japanese sierra version.
Boss(Shivaji) your knowledge of vehicle tuning is amazing! You are right when you said the JIMNY offered to Indians is hopeless car...
I don't remember saying the Jimny is a hopeless car 🤔
I own one.
Jj.
Thank you for you support. I got my EVC from Tapaswi Racing in Bamgalore.
Nice video.. can u pls advise where can we source EVC throttle tuner, i just need the basic one .. the one you have in your Jimny.. Thanks..
Finally someone who knows what he is talking about and not just talking shit
Thank you for your support!
@@shankarbalan3813 what would you have to say about replacement filters from let’s say BMC
The Ultimate 9 EVC is a game changer for all the cars Auto as well as the manual.
A lot of people have driven my car and appreciated the difference the throttle tuner has made.
can you let me know from where did you buy the E V C . Can you please share the link.
Need information instead of just like
To be very honest, this is most details review i found on RUclips.
I would really appreciate if you can answer my query.
I want to buy a Jimny Manual, please suggest should i go for this or not.
If Yes, please tell me the reason
If No, why it so .
Thank you for your support ❤
The Manual is fun to drive.
Does evc help jimny pick up fast?
Does evc affect the mileage?
What is the mileage of Jimny on hill and highway?
Yes the EVC makes it easier to get up to speed with the Jimny. Overtakes are easier. It will affect the mileage if you drive around in ultimate mode all the time. Mileage may improve if driven in Eco/Auto modes carefully. Long term testing is needed to arrive at exact figures. I'm not too concerned with the mileage, just want to have some fun with the Jimny!
@@gsrox2007 I hope throttle controller will have same benefits in Manual as well?
Thank you very much for the review sir. I bought the Jimny Zeta manual white last month. Not even completed 800kms The throttle controller which is fitted in your Jimny, will be suitable for my manual one. Please provide & empower me with your most valued suggestions. I am at Rajapalayam. I love mountains and forests. I often visit Mudumalai and Sathyamangalam. Till today I have not done any off roading. Thanking you for reading my comment. Jaihind
Yes it goes well even in the manual variant. All the best and thanks for your support 🎉
Nice post-purchase review. Could you also provide some info on where you procured some of the accessories from?
Super review. Thank you. Still with my 2010 Thar as the new one is not available here in SA. Waited for the 5 door Jimny to
Thank you for your support ❤
Thank you so much Guru.....Now Jimny seems practical with that EVC .
Please share from where to get the same.
STR Works India is where I purchased it.
Agree with you on the Auto Stop\Start, it ruins the battery and is annoying as heck
Gypsy is a punch to the face, while Jimny is a civil argument.
Haha nicely put 😂
Hey man, really nice review!
Was hoping to know where we could purchase the grill you got for your Jimny.
Plenty of dealers selling the grill in various designs. I got mine from Harman Impex who was the only guy with accessories at the time.
Im thinking of buying one. But not sure what transmission to go for. Can you give me advice?
Go for the AT
Hi! Mr. Guru, Would you please share about how you procured the EVC controller. Your videos have been instrumental in my decision to purchase a jimny alpha and I want to get the EVC fitted on my jimny as well.
Hi Mr. Guru, a very important question... What tyre pressures do you keep while doing your city drives ?
25 psi in the city. Highways I use 27/28 psi. Off-road I use between 15 and 18 psi
Hey bro where are the spare tyre covers from?
I got it from Harman Impex but you will find them across most accessory dealers.
Can you please share buying link for EVC throttle controller. I saw one online by team bhp. Would appreciate the favour
Should we use 4H on tarmac ghat roads for hairpin bends or sharp inclines?
Guru, where did you buy the front grill from?
Hi Sandeep. It is from Harman Impex although there are several other sources these days.
Sir will installing EVC in a manual jimny be that much of a change when compared to an auto ?
Yes it will !
A fellow Jimny driver with Alpha MT installed it as well. Same big smile on his face!
Yes. I have been using it on my manual Jimny Alpha and results are perceptible and huge. It is a game changer and completely transforms the vehicle. The throttle response is crisp and instantaneous. Its even more fun on the manual than the automatic
Faster gear shifts compared to stock and smoother too….i have it on mine…it’s very good in the Auto too..
Great inputs, thank you very much
Glad it was helpful!
100% true about chrome on body of cars!
Can you give me details about where did you buy that all black honeycomb grille? Which brand and price please!! Thankyou! I'm getting ready to take delivery of jimny in a few days!
I got it from Harman Impex. There are plenty of guys selling similar products now. Also check on Simply Jimny Forums.
That hello to the cow was good 😅
Hehe 😂
Nice point on the soft suspension. Also, where did you source your aftermarket grill?
Plenty of dealers now. Back when I got it there was only Harman Impex.
For how much u got evc and from where ?
10:45 Try holding the ESP button down for 8 seconds, it will turn on” ESP maintainance mode active” which should negate the problem of electronic cutting off the power. Hope that helps.
Great tip
Yes that's my standard setting when I go off road. I keep it active on tarmac.
Can a Jimny be only car in family of 3 for long term at least 10 yrs doing City duties on weekdays & touring on weekends?
Absolutely. It is perfect as a do-it-all. It is remarkably easy to drive around the city and my dad enjoys driving it because of the visibility, smooth engine and transmission and the way the suspension manages the bad roads. Try it out for size and take a long test drive. Let me know what you decide to do 👍🏽
Very nicely explained..👍
Thank you for your support ❤
Can you please share links and contacts of all the mods/ accessories bought? Especially front grill!
I bought from Harman Impex but there are plenty of other sources now.
