Your direct, gameplay oriented approach to reviewing and discussing games reminds me of what I am really here for when I play video games, to have fun. I didn't even realize all these shows wouldn't be around as usual this year... I have no patience for the awful delivery and endless padding. Demos are much better for me. For real, I've encountered so many interesting games due to demos. Did I buy all of them? No, because a lot of them were outside my preferred genres, but it was fun to experience different things for once. I'd say my most successful demo experience was CrossCode. Saw a random video on it, found out they had a browser-based demo, and was left wanting more immediately after I finished it. Mass Effects 2s demo made me fall in love with the series and possibly scifi in general. Excited for the rumors that something might be announced on N7 day :)
6:43 I hate this argument so much. "Demos decrease sales!" If people only need to play a half hour of your game to find out it's not worth their time, maybe make a better damn game, it's a ridiculous anti-consumer notion. Instead of making better games and being confident in your product, publishers would much rather trick people into buying unfinished and downright terrible games.
I'm very happy that demos are making a comeback. The only reason I even knew about Ghostrunner was because I played the demo. Very glad I was made aware of it.
"Soundtrack by DANGER" is literally the only thing I needed to hear, and when I threw it on my wishlist I learned there's a free music track download. This is *already* a winner. Fuck E3. Demos, ba-byyyy!
It's crazy when publishers try to sell demos as a 'pre-order bonuses' rather than as enticements to encourage you to buy games... Although, I do wonder if the big improvements in game streaming might bring back some of this (particularly as it somewhat eliminates the storage/download constraints demos have too)
Because they know that their new AAA game is not that great so they can't let you try it before you buy or you'll realize how mediocre it is and you definitely won't buy it.
Interesting fact: Most developers were disappointment by amount of exposure they got from that festival. There were simply too many demos, so most of those demos got buried and didn't received any notable amount of exposure/traffic.
From many of the comments I see, it seems people were as unaware of this one as I was of previous ones. Could be a mix of both. Too many demos without enough of participants.
This has to be my fav video from you dude, genuinely only positive vibes. Exactly what I needed during this quarantine stuck in the mountains of New Jersey. Also trans rights
I personally feel like the abandonment of demos has contributed to the decline in quality of games in the past years, think about it, if a game is bad and someone plays a demo of the game, of course they're not going to buy it but if there's no demo then lots of devs and publishers can get away with cutting corners that the consumer won't see until they buy the game because they would never showcase those rough edges, so it's only natural that demos would hurt the sales of some of the current AAA games Having a demo of your game nowadays shows me that you are either confident in your game or you have a passion for it and are eager to show your creation to the world but some years ago when demos were common practice, not having one would set off a few red flags for me
It's worth mentioning Microsoft actually tried something like this way back in the day -- for both E3 and TGS in 2006, they had a "Bringing it Home" campaign where show-floor demos would get posted up on Xbox Live. By 2007, I think "Bringing it Home" was reduced to just some trailers, and by 2008, it was gone entirely.
Since you've been sponsored by FiXT in the past, do you finally know the secrets of Klayton's glorious hair? Also love the NFS Porsche music in the background! Edit: I know this is my third edit but WHEN ARE GAME COMPANIES GONNA REALIZE WE PIRATE GAMES BECAUSE THEY DON'T GIVE US DEMOS?!
Between the discs included with issues of Official PlayStation Magazine and those individual $4.99 Jampacks you could buy at Wal-Mart or Target, I loved demo discs back in the day. I didn't buy games that often as a child, so having a way to sample upcoming releases like that was mind-blowing. I played them over and over, almost attempting to rush/speedrun some of them, try to learn as many moves and techniques as I could before the invisible 15-minute timers kicked me out. Not to mention, there were lots of trailers and behind-the-scenes content--I live for extras like that. I later ended up renting/purchasing quite a few games down the line based on the experiences I had with the demos. By the time I got my PS3, I didn't spend as much time downloading/trying demos because I had a God-awful internet connection at the time and it would take ages to download a single one. It almost made most of them not worth the wait (though they were still fun, for what it was worth).
Like I didn’t respect and love your content enough! The end section with the Transgender recognition... it’s fucking arduous in the gaming circle for someone to be so kind and accepting; it’s genuinely refreshing. Keep up the marvelous work dude, you’re a beast!
YES, FINALLY SOMEONE WITH A VOICE BRINGS THE TOPIC BACK! MORE DEMOS PLEASE! WE WANT TO FEEL HOW THE GAME PLAYS. It's something that should've never died. Trailers and conferences can be empty promises. I loved that DOOM 2016 had a demo, I don't know why they didn't make a DOOM Eternal demo too.
Thank you for openly supporting trans folks. As a trans person, it means a lot to hear words of support from someone with a degree of prominence in a community that can be very openly transphobic at times. Thank you for being an ally.
Honestly, I didn't even know the festival was a thing until I saw this video. Whenever I boot up Steam I tend to beeline towards what I intend on playing. But while watching this I needed to pause and add a couple of the games you showed footage of to my wishlist! It's definitely something I need to watch out for next year.
Devolver Digital fucking nailed it. A funny and relevant “press conference” video followed by the ability to download an actual game of a twisted version of the E3 trade show with trailers and plenty of interactive elements and a proper boss fight at the end. Wonderful.
I really appreciate what you said about trans rights at the end-- it's so hard as a trans person to find creators online that don't make you feel unwanted or despised. Seeing RUclipsrs I respect and enjoy like yourself show support make me feel less alienated from the gaming community that I've been a part of since I was addicted to Starcraft at six years old. Anyway, thanks a lot.
You belong, don't ever let anyone make you feel like you don't. Videogames have and will always be bigger than whatever tiny minds some assholes might have.
I've never liked E3, and I've always championed demos. Buying blind is horrible for the consumer and even risky for companies, as their entire business then hinges on past reputation - any mistake they make is all consumers will have to go on. On the contrary, demos allow you to forgo past biases and just try the thing before you dedicate money to it. We don't need cringe compilations and pre-animated footage. We want games; let us play, _then_ we'll pay.
Well that's awkward. I never heard about the Steam Game Fest because i now use Playnite thank to one of your videos Rayce.... oops ()to be fair work has also been super busy.)
Was not expecting the trans rights shoutout, incredibly cool and impactful to me as a "cis" viewer (don't tell my friends.) Thank you Ray, amazing vid as always, you're an inspiration.
Unrelatedly, so many games mentioned here that make me so sad. Hot take but I really like Anthem, the gameplay itself is so fun, it's stunningly beautiful and the animations were gorgeous. Cautiously excited for Anthem 2.0 And Evolve! I loved Evolve sooo much, every time I think about it I get so sad. If I got friends together who'd be down I'd play more of it right this second. Desperately hoping a spiritual successor or much better monetized follow-up comes one day.
dude, i HONESTLY love E3 its always so fun to watch people cringing to the hosts, i love the mistery and speculation about what games are going to get anounced too! i really enjoy it and also enjoy watching new trilers on live and talk to my friends about it
I didn't even realize that was a thing going on, and was busy with a whole lot of anxiety over my future, my current work, and a buncha other personal stuff. Nearly everything you showed in this video peaked my interest in a way not a single AAA game in the past years has done. This definitely needs to become the norm!

@@ranbeerchowdhary-74zy3 OK, we're going to end up circling this argument as I go back to my original premise. This isn't equal rights....... This is a form of "hardcore cosplay".😘

Hearing such an amazing youtuber express his support for trans rights, it hits differently. Your content is constantly amazing and you're like a sleeker (somewhat less British) version of TB. Thank you for all the effort and time you put into making all of this!
@@sebbo59 because sadly too many people feel the need that whenever such topics appear that they must express their strong and adamant opposition to other people's human rights on the internet.

Thank you for using Danger's music in this video.
But if AAA released demos, they'd all crash after pressing "start"

The shots of Raji: An Ancient Epic are great in this video. Such a beautiful game.
I personally feel like the abandonment of demos has contributed to the decline in quality of games in the past years, think about it, if a game is bad and someone plays a demo of the game, of course they're not going to buy it but if there's no demo then lots of devs and publishers can get away with cutting corners that the consumer won't see until they buy the game because they would never showcase those rough edges, so it's only natural that demos would hurt the sales of some of the current AAA games
Having a demo of your game nowadays shows me that you are either confident in your game or you have a passion for it and are eager to show your creation to the world but some years ago when demos were common practice, not having one would set off a few red flags for me
It's worth mentioning Microsoft actually tried something like this way back in the day -- for both E3 and TGS in 2006, they had a "Bringing it Home" campaign where show-floor demos would get posted up on Xbox Live.
He was sponsored by FiXT?
@@amitriptyline01 yeah or i guess he worked in association with them
Between the discs included with issues of Official PlayStation Magazine and those individual $4.99 Jampacks you could buy at Wal-Mart or Target, I loved demo discs back in the day.
Both PA and Georgia seems to have flipped
Raycevick
got a new video
Today seems to be a good day
I'm so glad demos are coming back, missed them so much.
Breadpilled Ray
Devolver Digital fucking nailed it. A funny and relevant “press conference” video followed by the ability to download an actual game of a twisted version of the E3 trade show with trailers and plenty of interactive elements and a proper boss fight at the end. Wonderful.
Wassup everyone! Hope you enjoy!
Thanks for listing out all the games in the video. That really helps.
10:22 - PREACH, KING!!
5:48 it makes me incredibly happy that Ray is also aware of Haven’s existence. It’s an underrated game for sure.
Anyway, thanks a lot.
lmao
You belong, don't ever let anyone make you feel like you don't. Videogames have and will always be bigger than whatever tiny minds some assholes might have.

I still remember playing NFS Underground 2 demo and painkiller demo in my childhood.

The way I discovered ghostrunner is through seeing a speedrun of the demo then I play the demo for 30 hours
Well that's awkward. I never heard about the Steam Game Fest because i now use Playnite thank to one of your videos Rayce.... oops ()to be fair work has also been super busy.)
I think I saw a Bear!
LOVED that minime shout-out! Been watching him from a few videos after he started and was waiting for him to get more views!
Cautiously excited for Anthem 2.0
And Evolve! I loved Evolve sooo much, every time I think about it I get so sad. If I got friends together who'd be down I'd play more of it right this second. Desperately hoping a spiritual successor or much better monetized follow-up comes one day.
why
dude, i HONESTLY love E3 its always so fun to watch people cringing to the hosts, i love the mistery and speculation about what games are going to get anounced too! i really enjoy it and also enjoy watching new trilers on live and talk to my friends about it
YO THAT OUTRO I KNEW YOU WERE COOL BUT HOLY FUCK YOU'RE EVEN COOLER TO ME NOW TRANS RIGHTS
I’m thrilled that Ray is so committed and diligent. Thanks for making my day!
10:22 Raycevick says trans rights!
Seriously though, thank you for saying that. Just another reason why I love this channel.
I didn't know I could respect this guy even more than I already did.
Dial8
This video has so much truth.
As an aside: Just Cause 2 still has the best demo ever, and more open world games need to copy it
Thank you for saying trans rights. As a trans viewer, I wasn't specifically looking for it, but it still feels really nice. ~
I didn't even realize that was a thing going on, and was busy with a whole lot of anxiety over my future, my current work, and a buncha other personal stuff. Nearly everything you showed in this video peaked my interest in a way not a single AAA game in the past years has done. This definitely needs to become the norm!
Turns people don't exist.
It's called cosplay.
When one start believing they're the actual character portrayed,
That's called mental illness.
If you want to help these individuals,
start by being honest with who they are.
@Gameboy3118 An honest person can speak with sincerity and still be duped into believing a lie.

@@ranbeerchowdhary-74zy3 OK, we're going to end up circling this argument as I go back to my original premise.
This isn't equal rights.......
This is a form of "hardcore cosplay".😘
If Ghost Runner didnt have a demo, I never would have given it a look..Its the exact kind of game I dont like "Difficulty based, do things right or fail until you succeed" Yet it did have a demo, and so I tried it and absolutely adore it, some of the most fun Ive had in a game I would have otherwise ignored.
10:28 nope
back when I was a kid I played as many demos or 30 minute trials as I could. Something like this brings back a lot of good feelings I got doing that
Demos are usually "Early Access" now. Pay for the entire game but only play a piece of it for now.
The sentence he utters at 4:26 is euphoric and REALLY sums up why you SHOULD attend these game demo festivals
hearing u say trans rights omfg kldfjgkhljdskgjhksjjdhfg tysm 🥺💗💗
The most underrated part of your videos is the list of games seen in order in the description. Especially for a video on this topic. Thanks
Hearing such an amazing youtuber express his support for trans rights, it hits differently.
Your content is constantly amazing and you're like a sleeker (somewhat less British) version of TB.
Thank you for all the effort and time you put into making all of this!
why
@@sebbo59 because sadly too many people feel the need that whenever such topics appear that they must express their strong and adamant opposition to other people's human rights on the internet. So seeing the opposite from a person who's content you enjoy support it rather than use it as a cheap joke its really nice.
I don't know if that answers it or if you'd like me to expand on it further, but I'd be happy to do so if that's the case c:
@@thatfierydragon dial8
Seeing Ghostrunner on here is so awesome, I was definitely impressed with the demo to say the least
I believe in humans rights for all (except pedophiles). But I seriously roll my eyes at the way these "activists" go about promoting it. "Say trans rights" like ugh dont we get enough political propaganda in every little corner of... like everywhere?
coming back to this video because the steam game festival got me thinking about it. Downloaded 11 demos last night and holy crap am I having tons of fun and have added many games to my wishlist
