Love the pressed flowers she will love it. I have pressed a few over the years, some press better than others. Your bags turned out great !! I follow Christine's Home Affairs on RUclips , she makes and sells bags in her shop. Many of the bags she makes she does tutorials for , always showing hints and tips to make it faster and easier if you are making more than one. A lot of her fabric she has sourced for free and explains how to do it. Worth a look x

Your bags are coming together nicely!! I'm not offended by the budget chats! I think that talking about it may help people who otherwise have no idea or have no one to ask for suggestions. Your sister's framed flowers are very pretty!@

its such a taboo subject but it really needs to be clearer to people. I worry that people get very personal about money.

American here. I grew up in a household that had 1 parent able to control their spending habits and 1 parent who had $20 to spend and would spend $40 nearly every time. My husband watched his parents not be able to pay their bills and was against debt enough that he wouldn't go to college/university. We are trying hard to avoid debt but lately it has seemed unavoidable and it's driving me bonkers! Neither of us want any debt and it makes me so glad for you that you have committed and sustained being debt free!

First of all, the pressed flowers in the frame are an absolute triumph! And then the bags, brilliant! AND, more people should talk about debt and money; they need to be discussed. Thanks for all of it.

Not offended at all! I think we need to talk about finances more. I've watched some podcasters that talk about doing all these things and buying all this yarn and I'm wondering, "How are y'all paying for this???"
One thing to consider, at least here in the US, is that a lot of us have to take out student loans to go to college. And if we don't go to college, it is hard to find even a basic job. So that's why there are a lot of US people in debt. And then when you add in the consumerism "I must have this now!" and then living expenses, etc. it adds up. As someone who lives in the San Francisco/Bay Area, California area, we see a lot of displaced people and families who have encountered this deluge of debt that is needed to survive in our country. And we could go on and on because then we have to talk about how the structures are stacked against people of color and whatnot.
Debt is complicated, I guess is what I'm saying. I was raised by a first generation immigrant and multiple generation banker/accountant mom that taught us how to 1. budget and 2. manage debt so it is not overwhelming. It's a huge privilege.

The college debt is something totally different. I think the college debt situation in the US is outrageous. We have a load of Americans who came over to Scotland & ireland to do degrees because it was literally cheaper to live in another country & pay the international student fees.

    • @jholowich
      @jholowich Год назад

@@GraceTheBabbler it is extremely outrageous. Many students I know are going the community college route first so they can save up for the big universities because that’s the only way they can get a higher education.

The bags are adorable. Nice work! I usually use a sewing ham used for garments to help me press rounded areas when I make bags. If you don’t have one, maybe roll up a towel inside the bag and press?

I'm the same with debt. I don't buy anything unless I can afford it. I have my student loan and my mortgage and that's it. We have a credit card that we use for everything (because of the cashback), I make sure I pay it off monthly and we never spend more than we have in other accounts. And yes, a mortgage stresses me out too 😅 I may pay a lump sum towards it to ease my worries 😂 Loving the baby gurgles x

Hello!! About debt, I'm with you, first get the money, and than decide in what you spend/invest it. It's a kind of "old school" thing I guess. Thanks for your Vlogmas, I really enjoy watching it! Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!

My father never had a credit card but cars were cheap because that was his business….autobody repair. My first car was an “insurance wreck”. My previous car to the one I have now I had for 14 years. Purchased it with 50K miles and it was less than half price and it was an S80 Volvo. I should have bought a new engine for it and kept it. But I do use credit cards for accountability. When I was married we built our own home as my ex husband was a builder and very talented. But it was never finished until after me. I invested in his dreams. That’s where life debt comes in. Always invest in your dreams along the way is what I learned. Another form of debt! ❤ I have lots of “life dream debt”!

@@GraceTheBabbler I guess It is because I can look at the statement every month and see everything right there in front of me instead of having to write it down. I think it's a really difficult conversation. I have experienced debt but was able to pay it off - I was able to work more extra. If I was in the same position currently I wouldn't be able to work more. My life & responsibilities are very different.
I think school education is really failing in life skills with regards to money management, understanding higher purchase agreements & interest rates.
Family background - one side worked hard, saved hard & to the point of denying themselves but we're generous to others in time, kindness & skills. The other side is again very hard working but we're not able to earn enough for savings other than the emergency pot, Christmas pot etc.
I want value for my money, I want it to be working for me. We rent & I am frequently concerned about 'no fault eviction' but don't have enough savings for a deposit to buy. We rent a really small place, but there have been benefits to space compromise.
Christmas is going to be Christmas 😊. We have slashed the gift budget. I did have chats with family & friends - all was good.
As a family we are very lucky to be able to continue with our crafting passions.
I feel we all behave differently to money - yes credit, in my option has gone beyond. When I was on mat leave my bank offered me a £40,000 unsecured load, I felt that was totally irresponsible & changed who I banked with. But I was in the fortune position to understand this would be a huge risk for me & my young family (I also think I was sleep deprived but in the - you say one thing wrong to me to your intge sh*t rather than a vulnerable day), I did not have an overdraft or debts with the bank & I had the mental energy to change banks.
    I bit of a ramble.
