    1972 and Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath AND the Alice Cooper band, were the HOTTEST bands in the world. You could pick up Circus, Creem, Rolling Stone, Crawdaddy, Hit Parader, or almost any Rock publication, and that's who you'd be reading about. Jethro Tull, the Who, and others were in the running, but this line-up of Deep Purple was a SUPER GROUP. It was a GREAT DECADE for Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Glad that I can say that I was alive to enjoy the '70s.

      No one can touch Ian Gillen as a vocalist... except maybe Robert Plant in his prime. But Ian sounded incredible well into his old(er) age, and Plant kinda fried his high end. (Still a damn good vocalist, and doing incredible stuff with what he has left. Nothing but respect for RP.) I saw these guys in the late 1990s when they toured with Dream Theater and ELP - awesome show! Didn't get to see Blackmore though. I guess what I saw was DP Mk V? Mk VII? It was largely the Steve Morse show with DP as his backup band. But Ian Gillen... what a voice! He had to be doing exercises or something to keep his voice up while singing this stuff his whole life. And JC Superstar was no easy job either. It's a really high tenor part, and he nailed that one too.
      But I gotta say my two faves in DP (after Gillen) are the other two you didn't mention, Roger Glover and John Lord. Roger had an amazing groove, but he's kinda lost in the competition from other bassists of his day (John Entwistle, Geezer Butler, JP Jones, the prog guys like Chris Squire, etc), but he's really amazing in his own right. (Also, as a bassist myself, I have to give him props.) John Lord did nothing less than invent the sound of rock organ. Yeah, a lot of organists played amazing rock music, but they never got the thing to rock like John did. (Ok, props to Ken Hensley from Uriah Heep, but his sound, though monstrous, didn't have the depth and breadth of John Lord.)
      My opinions - worth exactly what you paid for them :)

    It is the same thing at every single concert where Jon L starts his circus music, and challenges Ian and Ritchie and it never changes! I dont know how Ian and Ritchie put up with that, as it must get pretty boring for them. It is just that kind of stage clowning that makes art feel more like a job, than a spiritual experience. I can feel it in the air.
    However, the feel of this footage puts my mind back to the set of the Adams Family, which is pretty brilliant, i would say, where Ian and I met again, for the first time. I was only about 3-5 years old, and he was perhaps 20, but was really about 16, but yet we grew up together in the physical and shared the very same crib. You may ask how this is possible, but I say, how could it not be for certain? The planet is run by the clowns that be...when you do not know why you really exist, then life is a total mystery and you miss out on all kinds of things, both good and bad.

    • @Kris.G
      @Kris.G 4 года назад

      It's interesting that you call Jon's fooling around 'clowning' but you're absolutely fine with Ritchie's theatrics and utterly boring parts when for example he 'plays' his guitar with his heel. As for the rest of your post, it's totally unintelligible to me. I'm sure you wanted to say something of value though.

      Why would there be English people in Copenhagen in 1972? That's just what audences were like then - mostly very young, but mostly also just listening to the music. It was the late 70s/80s where it became customary to yell, scream, jump around, shout out the names of your favourite songs and spoil it for people who like music.

    One thing Lon L teaches us is that circus music and church music are not all that different and really are one and the very same. After all, clowns and horror flicks are a perfect match, as is the church when it comes to horror films as well. You can learn a lot from the sounds of a clown, especially when in the back drop of the music from the gods.

      This show is the worst possible one for that. The cameraman was massively Blackmore shy for some reason - lots of close ups of Roger's bass during the guitar solo. Plus the mix is terrible. The technology exists to sort the audio, not sure why they haven't.
      Hostrafa uni 73 is much better footage in many ways, although sadly not in length.
