PLUMBING TOOLS FOR APPRENTICES!

- So in todays video I’ve removed the unnecessary tools from the bag that I don’t think an apprentice needs to begin with. I’ve left in tools that I think should be the standard. Let me know in the comments if you would swap, add or change anything!?

Excellent idea, I'm an old (by age, 65) time DIYer, liked
👍👍👍👍👍
Great video Liam.
Wonderful that you did that for the new guys to show them they don't need to spend a fortune to get started.
Yeah the £100 tool stater thing is a great idea. Maybe then give it as a giveaway to local starter
Thankyou! Any way I can help others I will!
Nice video thanx, Tools have certainly got better since I was a plumber 35 years ago!!! Lol...
As an apprentice I had, small/large Footprint grips, junior and large hacksaw, tape measure, mini level, 15mm/22mm pipe bending springs, small hammer (claw), small jimmy/crowbar, some basic screwdrivers (flat and philips), a Rothenberger basin wrench, an old cigarette tin full of washers, olives, etc, all held in a large canvas bag. Also had a full set of drain rods and a plunger! I'm surprised no-one seems to use Footprint grips anymore, in my day every plumber had them? Cheers
Great video mate, the olive cutters are one of them things that do make life so much easier. I got my set when I was an apprentice as I seemed to be constantly changing radiator valves when my boss was fitting the boilers. I only carry a 15mm one but have saved me a few times over the years
Thankyou mate! Ohh they definitely do, I’m like you with the 15mm ones… never needed 22mm!
Great vid Liam! I think it depends what work the apprentice is doing. If they're on sites then no need for olive cutters. If they're jobbing, doing referbs etc then yes 100% olive cutters!
Thankyou! Il add it in the bag for apprentices!
To start with, I would suggest a Stanley Fatmax tote, or if they would to spend a bit more, a Toughbuilt. The Stanley Fatmax is very reasonable priced, works fine and should last at least a couple of years..There is absolutely no need to spend Veto money.
Re the screwdrivers..I would say they could get one demo driver, and the rest standard...In fact, a decent ratchet multi bit will replace quite a few of those..add to that they would need a very narrow bladed driver for stats and grub screws...
I would forget the rad tail ratchet as that is a dedicated ratchet...Instead get the separate rad tail key, a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter, and a standard 3/8" ratchet...Then at a later date if they want to add sockets ect, they already have a suitable ratchet.
A few items that I would highly recommend are a 24mm and 32mm open ended spanners for compression joints. In fact I would get those before the Bahco's as the grips will deal with the plastic nuts on waste ect. I don't like the 24mm/32mm combination versions as I prefer something smaller / more compact for when working in combined spaces..
Finally, I would also include a small LED work light and/or an led headlamp...Neither have to be expensive, but you need extra light in so many situations.
Yes they should go in there
Great video mate glad i found you on here. Do you do any boiler work or just plumbing?
Thanks! No just general plumbing and heating stuff, with the occasional bathroom
I wish I had this bag of tools haha
Great vid mate
Give the apprentice the rad tail Allen keys, make them work. With the olive cutters I’d say teach them with a junior hacksaw first so olive cutters later on
Olive cutting are a must mate I can’t live without them lol
Yeah I think the same, definitely don’t need 22mm I think
Monument do a red one with the clip but. I think your talking about forge steels ones
You know the ones!
Liam can you show 22mm copper pipe offset at 60mm with the old pipe benders no one wants to take it on.Haha it’s embarrassing all these Boss plumbers saying no problem.
Il try 👍🏻
@ Good man it is hard going upside down in the vice I had to use fittings gave up I did haha 10/10
What tools are the silicone tools in the little plastic container with lid on it?
The green set is from screwfix and the Cramer kit can be found on Amazon 👍🏻
These tools look like they’re actually being used
Subscribed. I'm 37 and thinking a becoming a plumber but afraid that on apprentice money I won't be able to provide for my family
Finding a career at almost 40? What have you been doing the past 20 years?
