The original ANN WILSON!!! What a great loss for music. The Philadelphia Inquirer, Monday, January 30, 1984; CANDY GIVENS, 37, STAR WITH ROCK GROUP ZEPHYR--Candy Givens of the rock group Zephyr, whose body was found in her apartment hot tub, may have drowned, but police are awaiting toxicology tests to determine the exact cause of death, authorities said Saturday. The body of Ms. Givens, 37, was found early Friday at her apartment here, police said. Police Capt. Hal Nees said there were no signs of any injuries, and a preliminary autopsy report indicated "symptoms of drowning." Ms. Givens started her career playing the harmonica and singing. She and her former husband, David Givens, formed Zephyr in the 1960s along with guitarist Tommy Bolin. The group was a sensation at the 1969 Denver Pop Festival and produced three albums before splitting up in the early 1970s. Ms. Givens then moved to Los Angeles. Bolin died in 1976 of a drug overdose. Although the Givens were divorced in the late 1970s, Zephyr was revitalized about 1980 when Ms. Givens returned to Colorado. The group produced the "Heartbeat" album and video, which were hits a year ago.
Sorry to learn that Candy Givens is deceased...what an amazing vocalist! I would have liked to hear more from her over the years! RIP musical angel sent to uplift us...
aka "Mad Dad" Yeah Smoothly Abrasive.. if you are reading this in 2021..you are absolutely right. Tommy B. was an extreme talent and with Candy singing lead...Zephyr was truly a band that never got the recognition they deserved.
I saw them at Red Rocks Colorado in 1970 . I've been a fan ever since, Just made a huge mistake = gave my youngest daughter there album to enjoy. TG for youtube!!

I wont turn this into a knowitall thing but the description sez she didn't have the FULL THROAT OR GUTS to back it up ? this is just my opinion I wont state as if it was fact but .......wait for it ...............................Janis Joplin isn't half as good as Candy Givens candy had the heart and soul in her singing that's my opinion. so the description sucks in my opinion too. great song !!
