Your eyes when you figured it out. Priceless. Great reaction. I loved this. I do believe it was on that ridiculous list. I believe Madonna's Dress You Up was also on that list. I was really young but naturally a Madonna song was involved so my ears were listening. Not that I understood any of it, I was just like I will never stop listening to Dress You Up or any of these songs. A Tale as Old as Time. Rock and Roll destroying youth. The chorus keyboard "My sugar walls" is very similar to the keyboard lick in Prince's Possessed. Possessed was unreleased at this stage. Eternity & 101 are 2 other songs Prince penned for Sheena. Sheena also duetted with Prince on U Got The Look & The Arms of Orion.
i cracked up when you figured out what sugar walls was about. before Prince made her unholy lol she was the good girl next door in songs like 9 to 5 (morning train) which is equally great. then if you want some more risque Prince gems try Nasty Girl by Vanity 6
When I was Growing Up, I had no clue what "Sugar Walls" were. I was just Jamming and Enjoying the Tune. But it was Only when I got Older that I realized what Sugar Walls was and what the Song was talking about lol. That's how Music was Back Then. You'd be Singing a Song You had Knew anything about. It was all just Your Imagination.
Curiously, not much controversy over this in the '80s when it came out (pardon the pun!). Everyone was getting used to Prince's sex obsession, and so it was like...oh..okay...sugar walls...we get it.
@ Ron Leo I wouldn’t say Tipper Gore was an old lady then. Her concern came when she heard her 11 year old listening to Darling Nikki. I was 12 listening to that song. Honestly I didn’t really get it UNTIL it was on the news and they explained it. Then my mom told me not to listen anymore, but I did anyway. Being a parent now I can appreciate that you want to be given a warning that what your kids are listening to maybe inappropriate in some way. That being said Sugar Walls is suggestive but went over a lot of heads, especially kids. A lot of music was like that. Now it just slaps you in the face. You can’t watch an awards show or performance on TV now without so much of it being sensored.
Ha! You did this song! YAY!! Yes, this was the song that took Sheena's sweet little image (Like Olivia's) out of the park honey LOL!! Sheena was seen as such a sweet, almost innocent girl until this song and her work with Prince came along LOL! If you watch her first break out song, Morning Train, or other songs before this one, I think that was the sweet, darling little image everyone had of her ;) You said she reminds you of a certain actress...she has done some roles in different shows on TV.
I was just a kid when this song came out and I'm discovering at the same time as you what it's actually about.😂 My first language is French and I learned English by watching all the great 80's sitcoms, so paying attention to the meaning of the lyrics was never my thing. Everything they played on the radio was jam after jam so I just got lost in the music and sang along to the hooks. This song obviously has Prince's fingerprints all over it, no wonder it's so raunchy.
Sheena Easton had a guest starring role on Miami Vice in the ‘eighties herself, but the actress she resembles is Emma Samms who took over the role of Fallon Carrington on Dynasty from Pamela Sue Martin around the same time.
I was in High School at the time, I knew exactly what it meant but, My parents where totally clueless, I think that's why this one slipped under the radar and got plaid on the radio back then! 🤣
@@EmpressReacts At that time nothing like this had ever been played on the radio, for us teen boy's 'who got the lyrics' this song was a total seduction! Sheena E is an 80's goddess. Funny to find out from reading more comments here, that the whole thing (like porn) was written and produced for a female performer, by a man, and for a male audience 🤪. And by none other than Prince!!! under the pen name "Alexander Nevermind." OMG! Wow this made me think; if a women want's to learn how to seduce a man, ask Prince, or watch stand up clips from Patrice O'Neil 😉better yet, simply find out from a guy what guys like, because unlike women: guys can lay out what really works for them with no ESP or decoding skills needed 😂
So happy you got to this song. Sheena Easton was huge in the 80's. When the 90's rolled around, her priorities changed and she wanted a family. Can't blame her for being on the endless rollercoaster. First first US single went straight to #1 and then it just one after another from there. This is definitely an artist you should take a very close look at. Yes, she had a few Prince colabs, but she is SO MUCH more than that. The wat she handles ballads will blow you away! 'Almost Over You', 'You Could Have Been with Me' and of course the theme to the James Bond film 'For Your Eyes Only' (she is only artist to be in the opening credits of a James Bond film by the way..). She won 2 Grammy's and one of them is for a, get ready for it, a Mexican-American Album 'Todo Me Recuerda A Ti'. She re-recorded a bunch of her hits up until then in Spanish! I really look forward to more of her songs popping up with your reactions.
@@EmpressReacts no! She’s Scottish! She happen to be super popular in Latin America, so this was a nod to those fans. So, yeah... a Scottish woman singing her hits in Spanish and winning a Grammy for it!
That moment when the connection is made...that was awesome. We saw the light go off in real time. Lol. Good times...also, its great seeing someone experience something you already vibe to for the 1st time (seeing it through their eyes).
This song's club mix burned up the dance floors when it hit! It was soooo Prince! It landed the #2 spot on Tipper Gore's filthy songs list, second only to Prince's Darling Nikki... just purchased the CD remaster that contains the elusive Roman Long Version.
I think the dink dink - dinkdinkdink, dink dink dinkdinkdink at the beginning is VERY much like the beginning of When Doves Cry. Go to WDC and check in at the 20 second mark. Not exact, but damn close.
Girl, my moms snatched my Sheena Easton cassette straight out of my hands midway through the first play "the blood races to your private spots" that's the line that did it, she bolted toward me like a linebacker. LMAO! btw, yes I said cassette. I was 11 years old. Funny though, the very next month "Like a Virgin" by Madonna was released, -needless to say I never played my Madonna cassette when Mama was around! Ha ha!

Greetings from Greece!!! Well you just reacted to one of my favorite singers ... Sheena Easton!!! Her vocal are so powerful ... and yes the song is not about candy :) however, contrary to today's music, there no cuss words outright and such ... the meaning is more discreet sort of speak ... :) My favorite song from Sheena Easton has to be For Your Eyes Only from the James Bond movie of the same title.
Prince and Sheena E were so dirty❤️❤️ U Got the Look being their ultimate collaboration from back when she was his drummer... A love bizarre is also a nice naughty track
@@EmpressReacts yes a percussionist and a drummer..As drummer for Prince (and lover) she was also his musical director of his band during tours of 87-89. The long gloves the fringes, short skirts tops with cut-outs.
It is April 2022, I was in my 20's in the '90's and did NOT know exactly what the song was about. 🤣🤣🤣i could totally see how tho. If you're not following the lyrics it'll go right over your head
She was a regular on Miami Vice. If you listen to her albums you can tell where they gave her some Miami Sound Machine tunes. Miami Sound Machine had that fresh off the boat from Cuba sound. Like they used every sound in synthesizer. Like if you gave Mozart a DX7. Sheena a few songs with their sound for Miami Vice.
I am a parent and I love this song
Sheena Easton Follow my rainbow is her best power ballad produced by LA. Reid and Babyface

@@EmpressReacts That is my favorite live performance of this song. The album version is spectacular and produced by the same team that produced Superwoman by Karyn White. This song was on the episode of Miami Vice when Sheena's character is gunned down. Emotional moment.
I love her
My mama knew
She was the one that brought me the album when I was little along with
Rick James music
I was lik huh it’s ok for me to listen and jam to this lol
Ok I will and I did
😂
HA HA HA... You were warned!! It's certainly not about a candy store! Kinda makes Soul Kiss look like a lullaby.
You MUST MUST MUST continue the Sheena Easton Journey! There is soooo much more there. Suggest the huge ballad.. Almost Over You, or the huge dance hit The Lover in Me. She even had a country hit with the duet We've Got Tonight w/Kenny Rogers. You will love any of these!!
Fun Fact... my 21st birthday.. got SUPER drunk and performed this little ditty at Karaoke!
🤣🤣🤣your 21 bday sounds 🔥🔥🔥 and you guys kinda warned, but i wasn't expecting this ‼️😂
@@EmpressReacts I won’t comment on the rest of the nights events..
Anyway, I remember reading that the record company was ‘concerned’ about her doing this song as it was such a radical direction change, so they opted not to throw gas on the fire and do a tame video ( sound familiar?) But, you’ll see she knows how to work that camera!
Your eyes when you figured it out. Priceless. Great reaction. I loved this. I do believe it was on that ridiculous list. I believe Madonna's Dress You Up was also on that list. These songs were ruining the youth, I think there were court cases and everything if I am not mistaken headed by Tipper Gore. I was really young but naturally a Madonna song was involved so my ears were listening. Not that I understood any of it, I was just like I will never stop listening to Dress You Up or any of these songs. A Tale as Old as Time. Rock and Roll destroying youth. I believe that tale is still going on. LOL
You're so funny 😂😂
😇
I was a kid. I had no idea what she was talking. Didn't know the terminology. I absolutely loved that woman. The video still works for me. My folks knew from jump. They let me stay dumb.
good parents!😂
😂😂😂. U so funny!!! That reaction was worth a million. I think I had told you that song was Naughty. 🤣. It’s a great song though. Catchy as heyell!! She was so hot!!! Always loved sheena!! Now when you listen to Almost over you by her. What a ballad!!!!
Im still like 😳😳😳😳🤪🤪🤣
@@EmpressReacts lol. Even Madonna wasn’t that raunchy yet. Lol. There’s one particular naughty song on the Erotica album and a few on the rebel heart album 2015. There’s a few nasty ones 😱😂
The chorus keyboard "My sugar walls" is very similar to the keyboard lick in Prince's Possessed. Possessed was unreleased at this stage. Eternity & 101 are 2 other songs Prince penned for Sheena. Sheena also duetted with Prince on U Got The Look & The Arms of Orion.
coool! im going to have to check these song out
She reminds me of the actress who played Sue Ellen in the TV series Falcon Crest in the 80s.
OMG! I love Sue Ellen =). I would say she reminds me more of Catherine Wentworth with those blue ice eyes.
i cracked up when you figured out what sugar walls was about. before Prince made her unholy lol she was the good girl next door in songs like 9 to 5 (morning train) which is equally great. then if you want some more risque Prince gems try Nasty Girl by Vanity 6
👀👀👀prince 🤣
When I was Growing Up, I had no clue what "Sugar Walls" were. I was just Jamming and Enjoying the Tune. But it was Only when I got Older that I realized what Sugar Walls was and what the Song was talking about lol. That's how Music was Back Then. You'd be Singing a Song You had Knew anything about. It was all just Your Imagination.
She played in Miami Vice series
She was on a episode of Miami Vice.
Cool never seen that show
Curiously, not much controversy over this in the '80s when it came out (pardon the pun!). Everyone was getting used to Prince's sex obsession, and so it was like...oh..okay...sugar walls...we get it.
🤣😂🤣oh wow! Now that's interesting. Shock value was already starting to wane
It was part of the “filthy 15” in 1984. Tipper Gore put her on the list for parents against dirty music. It totally had controversy.
@@liammorgan2155 The Filthy Fifteen had controversy with old women with too much time on their hands. Normal, everyday people didn't care.
Yaaas! She looks like she would've been on 80s prime time
I was just a kid when this song came out and I'm discovering at the same time as you what it's actually about.😂
My first language is French and I learned English by watching all the great 80's sitcoms, so paying attention to the meaning of the lyrics was never my thing. Everything they played on the radio was jam after jam so I just got lost in the music and sang along to the hooks. This song obviously has Prince's fingerprints all over it, no wonder it's so raunchy.
🤣🤣🤣our poor virginal ears
Sheena Easton had a guest starring role on Miami Vice in the ‘eighties herself, but the actress she resembles is Emma Samms who took over the role of Fallon Carrington on Dynasty from Pamela Sue Martin around the same time.
You are correct Sheena bore a resemblance to British actress Emma Samms who was in fact a regular on Dynasty in the 80’s! 😂
🤣wow
I was in High School at the time, I knew exactly what it meant but, My parents where totally clueless, I think that's why this one slipped under the radar and got plaid on the radio back then! 🤣
😂so cool
She won 2 Grammy's and one of them is for a, get ready for it, a Mexican-American Album
'Todo Me Recuerda A Ti'. She re-recorded a bunch of her hits up until then in Spanish! I really look forward to more of her songs popping up with your reactions.
Is she Latinx? And thanks for this comment 🗣🗣🗣
Yes it was!
Watching 👀 reaction videos has become an obsession lately...you have my sub 😊😁
@@RemixRick1 thank u‼️
She was so many great songs. I don't remember any music from her in the 90's up into now
Cool i'll have to check some out
This song's club mix burned up the dance floors when it hit!
Hmmmm....i think I hear what you hear 🤣🤣🤣
Good with the Dink dink dink dink dink....dink dink dink dink dink! You must be a musician yourself 💜👍
Good call on that, Tim. I don't think I ever figured that one out for myself. I believe it, too. It's just a dink dink dink in a different direction.
Ha ha!
You Got the Look with Prince is a must see. She also sang a theme for a Bond movie called For Your Eyes Only and it is a really cool vibe. Sheena could sing!
✅noted
Greetings from Greece!!! Well you just reacted to one of my favorite singers ... Sheena Easton!!! Her vocal are so powerful ... and yes the song is not about candy :) however, contrary to today's music, there no cuss words outright and such ... the meaning is more discreet sort of speak ... :) My favorite song from Sheena Easton has to be For Your Eyes Only from the James Bond movie of the same title.
I have this 45, jajajaa. I remember creeping out of the house to go buy it at the mall...
I forgot how GOOD this jam is.
Empress, have you reacted to Expose?? They have good very very 80s dance singles. My fave is Let Me Be The One.
🤣🤣🤣dang creepin to buy a nasty ass record
@@eduardoalegriarampante639 no i haven't yet
I recommend Lovergirl by the late great Teena Marie , if you like this type of groove . Your energy is contagious !
🥰wow thank u! And recommendation is noted ✅
Prince and Sheena E were so dirty❤️❤️ U Got the Look being their ultimate collaboration from back when she was his drummer... A love bizarre is also a nice naughty track
She was a drummer?
@@EmpressReacts yes a percussionist and a drummer..As drummer for Prince (and lover) she was also his musical director of his band during tours of 87-89. She has also performed with Diana Ross early in her career ;-) Many of her looks from that time very much reminds me of the black madonna look with Gambler one the virgin tour. The long gloves the fringes, short skirts tops with cut-outs.
@@renenielsen92 @Empress It's actually Sheila E was the drummer/lover, not Sheena. They were never romantically involved.
@@michaeldubin8965 OMG you are absolutely right completely misread and got it mixed up... massively embarrassment... my sincere apologies
@@michaeldubin8965 actually, Prince was romantically involved with both Sheila E. And Sheena Easton for a time in the mid to late 80s ...
Definitely not a song about Diabetes 😅😅😅😉
LMAOOOOOO
🤣🤣🤣yeah i see
i was waitin for your reaction when you would put it together
There's one more Produced by Prince call , The Lover In You.
The moment you realized what the lyrics were!😅 Your reaction says it all! Great song/artist.👍👍
Im still like 😳😳😳🤪
Sister, there is Prince inside "Sugar walls" .. heh.
It is April 2022, I was in my 20's in the '90's and did NOT know exactly what the song was about. The reason I looked it up today is because. a friend recently quoted the lyrics to me and couldn't believe it! Ever since then I've been trying to figure out how I missed the real meaning. .. You're expression is exactly what mine was..Granted, I wasn't really into Prince type music and didn't have any albums so I just heard most '90's Pop music only on the radio but I still can't believe I missed it...
😂😂
My favorite Sheena Easton song and video...."The Lover in Me" If you get a chance...check it out. Keep up the great reactions.
Thank u!!!
I love this song. I play it every Christmas and pretend it's about gingerbread houses.
3:O8 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That reaction tho...had it on repeat.

Sheena was all sweet and innocent until she met Prince ;-)

My mother was a DJ and was very aware of the meaning of this song...lol. MTV was the devil for some parents! I was 14 when it came out.
so cool your mom was a DJ
Loved your reaction! 😁 In answer to your question to your viewers as to if we were kids when we first heard it: yep, I was! I was 12 at the time. And even at that time, when I should have known what that song was about, I wasn't aware of its meaning.
