What a wonderful piece of time! This is from "The Next Purple". I was on Sofia 2022 concert with Simon McBride - super. Deep Purple is a standard, a direction concept, Purple is recognizable Sound with Blackmore, Morse and McBride - respect to all them! Time goes, reality changes, so I would like 2 of 3 songs on next DP concert to be from "The Next Purple" - fresh and much quality there.
This was released and that story told on 102.5 in Seattle as my parents drove me to the hospital as a grown man/veteran suffering from what I now know was softball to pinhead size blood clots all over my body blocking my brain and other organs......I died several times over the course, was in a coma......but I always remember hearing this from the album and stewing in the irony that I needed help and couldn't not communicate. 20 years later contact lost is one of few lucid memories I have
It's the end of 2021 and for some reason I am thinking about Chawla. I worked with her as a safety diver at the NBL for that mission. Incredible guitar work. Great band. Thank you for posting this.
@Lil1943 The astronaut Kalpana Chawla took two Deep Purple CDs (Machine Head+Purpendicular) and Rainbow's Down To Earth (Roger Glover and Don Airey were Rainbow members when this album was recorded) with on the trip. She said she was a big DP fan and she wakes up with Space Truckin' every morning. The whole band sent emails into the universe and the crew wrote back. I don't know how long they have known each other but I think it was very hard for the band when they saw the exploding shuttle...
As I've said before Deep purple are the greatest band on earth and seeing this just shows that Steve morse is in my view the greatest guitar player out there.
Contact Lost 0:00 / Haunted 3:30 (LIVE 2003 BERLIN) Deep Purple 2003 (Mark VII): Steve Morse - Guitar Ian Gillan - Vocals Ian Paice - Drums Don Airey - Organ, Keyboards Roger Glover - Bass
@lw48wp4 Thanks so much! That is very moving. I can certainly understand the love the crew had for DP. It's around 6 a.m. - and I'm getting cheered up for a Monday morning by listening to/watching DP lol. Very sad - a beautiful guitar tribute to the astronauts.
Imo Ian Gillan has lost the ability to scream and do songs like Highway Star and other Purple classics justice which is probably to be expected considering his age but I have to say he's still exceptionally good at singing songs like this. I really like this song.
On Saturday 1st February the awful events unfolded in the skies along Columbia's re-entry path. We stumbled into the studio, unable to speak; the session was not going to happen that day. Steve Morse arrived and we all hugged. He went straight to the room and asked Mike Bradford to record the music he had just written as he watched Columbia die Contact Lost Music doesn't always need words in order to be lyrical and Steve Morse was able to speak with his guitar when we were all speechless.
In the date of 2014-02-08 Deep Purple is playing at a quite new concert hall in a small Swedish town. The town is called "Sandviken", the concert hall is called "Göransson Arena". Just a heads up for all fellow Swedish fans or other fans who have the time and money to visit!
How was Deep Purple involved with Columbia mission, as he says in his intro. I realize that Steve Morse was a friend of one of the astronauts but don't understand in what way Gillan says they were "very" involved?! Does anyone know?

Even when they write pop numbers they are great...what a fabulous band!

Haunted is egy klasszikus .
'Bananas' is IMO the best Morse era album.
Beautiful.
thank you for this great music!!!
Respect is all I have to say!!
All Love and best wishes from Evy Marie ❤️
So Good!! Words are not enougth,,,,,,,
I love both songs. Morse is a legend.
Very interesting the way he says "Would you mind holding on...we can sing happy birthday later..." compare and contrast to jerks like Axle Rose.

RIP John Lord!
escucho el batir de tus alas
como si estuvieras tocando mis cuerdas
en maneras misteriosas
me has arrastrado
hacia un amor
mas allà de todo entendimiento
más allá de mi alcance
tan tan lejos
pero parece que fué apenas ayer
me estás asustando
me estás asustando
y luego desaparece
escucho tus pasos en el piso
tentándome a voltear a mirar
a habitaciones vacias
y marcos de fotografías
y amigos quienes no pueden recordar nuestros nombres
me estás asustando
me estás asustando
He knows full well the earth ain’t a wobbly ball. Great music but don’t let him fool you.

DP Forever! 👍💜
