The fighting back part actually just adds more to the horror of the game. Being able to guage when to fight or when to run is an excellent response brought on by the combat mechanics. I could never truly be afraid in a game where I know no matter the circumstances, I won't be able to defend myself in any capacity. This tends to take me out of the experience since whenever I encounter a potential threat, i know my only option is to run & hide. This is definitely an excellent addition & does more to immerse you into the world since you aren't typically helpless as the previous games.

Despite the ability to fight back and defend yourself, I think this game is going to be great. Even with the ability to do that, I imagine they've done it in a way that doesn't take the soul out of the game. I don't think it's going to ruin the classic feel as much as most people think it will. I mean, you can't have a multiplayer game like this where all you do is run and hide with 3 other people the entire time. You'll still have to run and hide a majority of the time I'm guessing, but you have to have some sort of dynamic gameplay in there with multiplayer. That's where defense comes in. I think it's going to be a great game.

Also from what I’ve just seen this could easily be a single player game but like little nightmares 2, where there are multiple team members but they will all die anyway and you can complete this easily single player. I do agree with you though, I hope we arnt going in guns blazing throwing grenades at our enemies and HAVING to play with others to play the game. They could do what Silent Hill and Resident Evil did and make it so the game strongly encourages the player to only fight back when they can't run away and make weapons and ammunition scarce and hard to come by. They could also do what the Siren games did and make it so that enemies won't die and will only be incapacitated for a short amount of time so the player can get past them before they get back up. They could also make certain enemies have shorter recovery periods to keep the players on their toes. There's a lot of ways to make combat work in survival horror games while still giving the player a feeling of helplessness and dread.
Honestly, I am feeling 50/50 about the new fighting back thing because it might take away from the nostalgia of the other games, but this might help to make the game, even more, scarier like just imagine trying to hit one of the killers with an object and they catch you and use it on you instead.

This is not just a videogame trailer. It is full of symbolism, just look at 1:08 that sums it up. I remember that the teaser trailer ended up telling: "Freedom ends 2021" and now: "We're all in it together in 2022..."
I go camping a lot in areas that have electrical outlet hook ups, and one of the things I like to do is bring my Xbox, projector and screen with me. There’s nothing like being out in the woods playing Outlast on a big screen in the middle of the night with nothing but a couple of candle lanterns for any additional light.
I think the fighting back part is a pretty neat change. The first two games were good but only running and hiding kinda got stale for me so doing stuff to impede the enemies (eg throw a bottle at them or place a mine) is pretty cool id say.
Well...judging by the trailer i can't say i'm too excited, it looks like a completely different game and seems like they try to change the theme of defenselessness and uneasiness that made Outlast so popular, back in the early games the only way to escape monsters was by avoiding them or running away from them which made them look like unstoppable and more scarier. I hope that it will have a great story instead, more interested in the singleplayer than multiplayer to be honest.
Same here, fighting back is the least thing I would expect to see in an Outlast game. If this is a feature in multiplayer mode (if it exist) then it's OK for me though.
And if it kept the same mechanics Y’all would be like “Oh it’s always the same thing every game” like come on bro of course they changed it up and I’m sure they’re gonna go with the normal route in outlast 3 because this isn’t outlast 3 that’s still set to come out after this and most likely pick up with Blake with his captors (if you’ve read the comics you know what I mean) or maybe a team up with Miles, who’s the new wallrider, and Waylon park who’s still alive and in hiding or something but all I know is that this game is kinda just a present to tell us “Look outlast is still alive and there’s still more to come, so in the meantime have this” and I do hope this game exceeds your expectations as well as mine but come on its outlast they’re gonna find a way lol
Trials make me think it will be an episodic release? Or just referring to the character going through trials is the game. Will be interesting to see the plot line in this one.
ill save judgment till release but the fact that we couldnt fight back was one of my favorite parts of outlast, because youre completely helpless, and that just inspire so much dread

@@desfefe well as far as scary goes re 7 wasn't that scary was a great game though. and better than 8 imo and definitely better than 6 as a huge resident evil player played all of them. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Veronica outbreak zero revelations dead aim operation raccoon city and darkside chronicle. and while the game i mentioned may not be as action packed they are still great game if you give them a chance and finish them. but survival horror games aren't for everyone the 1 where you cant fight back. still it will be intriguing to see if red barrel pulls of the right balance between action and fighting back and horror. somthing tells me they makings this combat misleading on purpose so people get comfortable 😄 then when you play the game your in for a surprise. i am a fan of outlast also just finished playing them all again recently.
Wow! Insane vibe even from the trailer, added combat mechanics, this is going to be the best horror game! And also I think, there is possibility its going to be co-op as you can see in the trailers 2 characters
imagine they made the game not too long before the original outlast and it was just like the first one but in a different map and at the end it is revealed you were playing as chris walker the whole time before his transformation. that would be a sick prequel and plot twist they couldve gone with. I just hope this game turns out well and doesnt fail.
I am so hyped for this masterpiece! I already played every outlast and this horror game has it all. But wait did I just see it right? MULTIPLAYER???? if that’s true then omg take my money !!!!
This gave me Fallout Vibes In different scenes. I’d actually love to play this. I’ve not played this series before only watched Hollow play them just recently. Can’t wait!
I loved playing these game so much and I can't wait for the actual combat element. If they pull it off well enough this will be a phenomenal game! Combat will definitely add a lot more fear into the game than sneaking around and being defenseless.
My prediction: This game will be just a mess, the simple fact that you can fight anything is contradictory to everything that made Outlast scary, the fact that you CAN'T fight what is after you. This title will just get forgotten as just another horror game. I'm disappointed. I can only hope that the mechanics would make it worth playing.
Im so hyped for this game- the first outlast has been a favorite of mine ever since it came out. Whistleblower was amazing too, the second one was kinda meh but this one looks so interesting and cool!
I disagree about your take on the second game. Beating the game on insane mode without dying and no reloading batteries to get the platinum was the most intense gaming experience ever. Still makes me cringe thinking about it
Feels like this is gonna be co-op or a story involving more than 1 character at least that’s what I took for the jump scene where the guy jumped and the other person reached their arm out to grab and help pull them in
I still remember that dark ghost like guy who can go through walls(I don't remember his name), if I encounter him in VR....in tension I would get hit to every single wall in my room possible....
I love the direction they're going for however I do fear whether or not it will stop the game from being able to just kill everything in your way instead of dodging and sneaking your way around. I do believe it will still be a great game either way.
Honestly I don’t know why so many people complain about the self defense I think it’s nice Satisfying to kill something that has been hunting you down And I don’t think it’s mandatory If people wanted I’m sure they could still hide and slink
Outlast was known for being the best game at doing the "run away" kind of horror game, but now it id resorting to more reactive kind gameplay where the player can react aggressively to the threats. We have seen that in Residen Evil, Silent Hill, etc. Since Outlast mastered the hopeless subgenre of horror game, I would expect that it should keep it that way. Think about the following situation: You're in a locked room alone and a serial killer is trying to break in. You don't have anything to defend yourself. Now for our second situation, imagine the exact same thing, but now you have a knife, or a baseball bat or a bomb. Which situation is scarier? The one which you know you can somehow defend yourself or the one you're absolutely hopeless? Even if you could argue that some people would be more scaried by having a possibility of defense, because that would create more tension because of the indecisive scenario created by more variables, it's undeniable that MOST people would be much more scared if they didn't have any mean of defending themselves. That's the natural instinct of the human being. You're instinctively built to wish to avoid at maximum any situation which you have no power of (dangerous situations, specifically speaking). So I would say that this change is in initial instance a negative change, even if for the sake "bringing something new", because we already have tons of horror games that allow you to defend yourself. This situation can only be proven wrong if somehow they manage to balance really well the means of defense and make a turnabout of this new element, which is something really hard to pull off.
I think defense is a great mechanic to a horror game! It just needs to be implemented in a way that it can't be abused or used as an advantage. I strongly believe that the fear of the "unknown" is the best scare factor to a horror game. If you have to defend yourself to get out as an emergency, sure! I think its great! Though I feel that the more you do the defense, you become much more vulnerable because the enemy becomes stronger and more durable.
Absolutely adore the series so I have extremely high expectations for this one. Cant wait to play and excited its multiplayer! I also have heard about combat but not the typical classic combat, just setting traps. So you’re not *really* fighting. Just able to set traps.
i wasn't huge on the second game but the first one left an amazing impression, i'm giving the benefit of the doubt for this one! it looks promising, can't wait.
While Outlast didn't invent anything this subgenre of horror games, it definetly perfectionized it. There were games similar to this, which built on adrenalin fueled and scary chases such as in Penumbra and Amnesia all extremely scary on their own, but nothing like Outlast.
The best horror series I’ve ever played. High expectations, positive it will deliver. I’m excited for the new direction.

This is not just a videogame trailer. It is full of symbolism, just look at 1:08 that sums it up. I remember that the teaser trailer ended up telling: "Freedom ends 2021" and now: "We're all in it together in 2022..."
He said “we are all going to get better together”
This is like a mix between Soma, Resident Evil Village, and something else I recognize but can't name.
All with the spirit of an Outlast game.
Soma is one of my favorites!
So are they pulling a Thankskilling move here and jumping a number entirely? I don't think outlast 3 is even out yet
Truly a great movie
not really since "outlast 4" isn't the real name the real name is outlast trials
@@Branquelo454 you mean 3 4 dosent exist and neither 3 either
this feels more like RE7, i wish they made more games like outlast 1.
I think the fighting back part is a pretty neat change. The first two games were good but only running and hiding kinda got stale for me so doing stuff to impede the enemies (eg throw a bottle at them or place a mine) is pretty cool id say.
But the running and hiding is a thrill because its supposed to be like that as a PURE HORROR GAME.
Horror stops being horror if u can just brute force your way out. That's why resident evil franchise isn't scary
@@freshswagga100 I think people that played resident evil 7 would disagree with you there.
@@shadowslayer9988 I played 7. Remember it being eerie at times but scared? No
@@freshswagga100 Horror also stops being horror when all you do is run and hide. You know what's more scary? Facing your fear, right in the face.
a sequel we needed, but definitely didn't expect. I'm definitely gonna enjoy this
So exciting, I'm eager to see them deliver yet another amazing game!
I have a feeling this is going to be the best one so far...
Can't wait for it, one of my fav games ever! Hope they won't ruin it.

If it's Multi-player then game is already doomed
@@freshswagga100 you speak of things u do not know about
@@achilles8397 I speak from experience
@@freshswagga100 quite a lot of horror games are better because of multiplayer
Well...judging by the trailer i can't say i'm too excited, it looks like a completely different game and seems like they try to change the theme of defenselessness and uneasiness that made Outlast so popular, back in the early games the only way to escape monsters was by avoiding them or running away from them which made them look like unstoppable and more scarier.
I hope that it will have a great story instead, more interested in the singleplayer than multiplayer to be honest.
Yeah I was pretty excited until I saw the combat stuff
Same here, fighting back is the least thing I would expect to see in an Outlast game. If this is a feature in multiplayer mode (if it exist) then it's OK for me though.
And if it kept the same mechanics Y’all would be like “Oh it’s always the same thing every game” like come on bro of course they changed it up and I’m sure they’re gonna go with the normal route in outlast 3 because this isn’t outlast 3 that’s still set to come out after this and most likely pick up with Blake with his captors (if you’ve read the comics you know what I mean) or maybe a team up with Miles, who’s the new wallrider, and Waylon park who’s still alive and in hiding or something but all I know is that this game is kinda just a present to tell us “Look outlast is still alive and there’s still more to come, so in the meantime have this” and I do hope this game exceeds your expectations as well as mine but come on its outlast they’re gonna find a way lol
the inability to defend yourself never made sense to me

Trials make me think it will be an episodic release? Or just referring to the character going through trials is the game. Will be interesting to see the plot line in this one.
I am SO SO excited for this one, I love Outlast, I think this will be great, it certainly does look amazing!
so hype for this. def the best horror series ive played.

idk about anyone else, but it would be so freakin cool to have an outlast vr experience! definitely something i’d like to see in the future!
Exactly what I thought watching this

I think adding combat is cool, gives you that fight or flight instinct, making you pick your fights carefully rather than go in guns blazing.
Btw what month is this game released?

ill save judgment till release but the fact that we couldnt fight back was one of my favorite parts of outlast, because youre completely helpless, and that just inspire so much dread

Does this mean you can use weapons now after seeing some clips with the characters using bottles and bombs?
yes

why isnt there a multiplayer horror game with the quality of outlast
I feel like a horror game fundamentally can't be scary when played multiplayer.
ich freue mich schon wenn Gronkh's Lets Plays zu dem Spiel kommen.
Nothing could be scarier than the lore of the first game, but oh well. The time flies now get another sequel.
The game is scary, but The fear you feel while playing The game for the first time maybe you will never feel again... you become an outlast veteran, and you can face everything
I'm used to play games where you use guns to defend yourself, like resident evil, and when I first played outlast I felt so weird and stressed bc you can only use the camera, but this looks insane and I can't wait to play it, i feel like it's going to be better than the first two games
Try the following if you haven't already

Soma
Amnesia dark decent and rebirth

@@KoriandrOfTheStars yeah it was a really depressing story but brilliant

Ну что ж, ждем-с прохождения от Дмитрия Куплинова❤
My prediction: This game will be just a mess, the simple fact that you can fight anything is contradictory to everything that made Outlast scary, the fact that you CAN'T fight what is after you. This title will just get forgotten as just another horror game. I'm disappointed. I can only hope that the mechanics would make it worth playing.
all that's left - is hope
I don't see much fighting. Seems more like buying time with the occasional deployable diversion

I love the direction they're going for however I do fear whether or not it will stop the game from being able to just kill everything in your way instead of dodging and sneaking your way around. I do believe it will still be a great game either way.
Honestly I don’t know why so many people complain about the self defense
I think it’s nice
Satisfying to kill something that has been hunting you down

Outlast was known for being the best game at doing the "run away" kind of horror game, but now it id resorting to more reactive kind gameplay where the player can react aggressively to the threats. We have seen that in Residen Evil, Silent Hill, etc. Since Outlast mastered the hopeless subgenre of horror game, I would expect that it should keep it that way.
Think about the following situation:
You're in a locked room alone and a serial killer is trying to break in.
I am ready to give even 100 dollars for outlast games. They are perfect and the developers deserve it. ❤
Absolutely adore the series so I have extremely high expectations for this one. Cant wait to play and excited its multiplayer!
I also have heard about combat but not the typical classic combat, just setting traps. So you’re not *really* fighting. Just able to set traps.
I got all excited when I saw the the other character helping out, cant wait to play with others
I can tell just by the way most games are going right now that this won't be up to expectations.
SO EXCITED HOPE ITS AS GOOD AS OUTLAST 1 AND 2,, REALLY HPYED

Now that I think of it. Outlast is just resident evil but without guns.
i wasn't huge on the second game but the first one left an amazing impression, i'm giving the benefit of the doubt for this one! it looks promising, can't wait.
While Outlast didn't invent anything this subgenre of horror games, it definetly perfectionized it. There were games similar to this, which built on adrenalin fueled and scary chases such as in Penumbra and Amnesia all extremely scary on their own, but nothing like Outlast.
