  • Steve Miller! Threshold - Jet Airliner! What a classic piece of Pop! The sound of this band is all about singing harmony. And in particular, the sound is all about Steve Miller harmonizing with himself. Giving his Pop a bit of an Everly Brothers sheen, Jet Airliner is actually a cover of a tune written by Paul Pena. It matters not, it's a Classic. This video is of course a cover too, and it's what I would play on the song if I was hired for the Rhythm slot in his band.
These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs - sometimes as a single guitarist playing the only guitar part, though that's rare. And sometimes if there is more than one guitar part, then trying to find the single good path through the tune. I complete one pass, demonstrating different Rhythm parts, styles, and techniques. There is no talking. No discussion. No note-for-note explanations. As such, for clarity, my guitar is supposed to be louder in the mix than it would ever be in a live setting. But, if you really want to hear what I hear, do what I do and put on a good pair headphones with great bass response! It's worth it.
Why this song is important to Rhythm Guitar:
This is straight Chuck Berry. Well, mostly straight. This is a groove that has to be in every Rhythm Guitarists arsenal. As you can see, I play around with the stresses a bit differently on every Verse. That's on purpose. Each one should be different.
The only thing really missing from this is the octave riff. It's exactly what I play at the third fret, just an octave higher. Duh!
It is another two Guitar song which should not be played any other way.
    Two Guitars.
    Two Singers.
    That's how it sounds best.
