The Art of Rhythm Guitar
Канада
Добавлен 25 май 2019
Hey! Welcome to my Channel - the Art of Rhythm Guitar. My name is Echohead.
This endeavour is all about the all to often overlooked importance of great Rhythm in Power Pop, Rock and Reggae music. The Channel is my testament to concise Guitar playing. Less is more. Way more! Rhythm Guitar forms a part of the core of Rock, Pop and Reggae music. If you don't develop a great sense of Time and Meter, I think you are lost as a Guitarist. Good Rhythm skills are vital and pretty rare in the world of Electric Guitar. Oh, and my Channel is a bit of tribute to tone, too!
These videos can serve as lessons, but there is no talking, no discussion, no part-by-part dissection. It's for Guitarists with some skill, but like me not too much! Also, there is Lead Guitar on a lot of songs, but that is not the focus of what I do.
If you want to correspond with me, use the link below.
I don't ask for Likes or Subscribers and I NEVER will. My Channel is not monetized.
Thanks for stopping by.

Patty Smyth - Scandal - The Warrior - Cover
Man, Patty Smyth! That chick can sing, baby. Here's her biggest hit and a wicked slice of early 80s guitar. It was written by Holly Knight and Nick Gilder. Both of those guys wrote a lot of hits for other artists. Look them up. Mike Chapman (The Knack, Blondie) produced this song, and clearly it was designed to be in the Top 40. The Warrior hit #1 in Canada in 1984 and was Top 20 in the USA. All of the music in this song serves two purposes. First, kinda sound like the Police. Second, make a sound stage for that incredible voice. The combination of these two things, and my undying love for Pop music, mean I will never get tired of this song.

Smash Mouth - Walking on the Sun - Cover

More Smash Mouth! Walking on the Sun! This is their debut single from the album Fush Yu Mang. It was released in July 1997, reaching No. 1 on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart. Wowza! It was also a success abroad, peaking at No. 3 in Canada and Iceland, No. 5 in Italy and Spain, and No. 7 in Australia, where it is certified Platinum for s...
The Plimsouls - A Million Miles Away - Cover

Yay! The early 1980s. It was an era marked by a return to non-virtuoso Rock. The effect of Punk Rock on young Guitarists was to show them that all sorts of things were effective - including simplicity. Punk spawned New Wave. This more mature take on the do it yourself ethos of Punk was matched by a love for Power Pop songs, starting with the Beatles. This song, A Million Miles Away was by the P...
Tragically Hip - Courage - Cover

Courage by the Tragically Hip! So excellent. Does it get any better than this? I don't think so. I think this is one of the greatest Rockin' Pop songs ever written in Canada. Courage was released in February 1993, as the third single from their 1992 album, Fully Completely. I love that record from cover to cover. This tune was nominated for Single of the Year at the 1994 Juno Awards. According ...
Tragically Hip - Last American Exit - Cover

Alright, here's my fave song the Hip ever did - Last American Exit! It's interesting that this song is on their first EP from 1987. And that they wrote so many awesome songs that defined an era and made the band a part of the fabric of my country. Canada. Lead by a poet, the Hip talked and sang about the most important aspects of the human condition. Caring. Values. Fidelity. Justice. And of co...

Ok, this is the stuff right here! The Tragically Hip's "Small Town Bringdown! Out of Canada, the Hip were/are the best Rock band our country ever produced. Imagine a group where everyone is a childhood friend (like U2). Imagine putting something together that just really works right from the first day! This song is off their 1987 debut EP, before they even had an album's worth of material. It w...
The 88 - Hide Another Mistake - Cover

The 88 was an American Pop Rock band from Los Angeles. Meeting in high school in Calabasas, California, Adam Merrin and Keith Slettedahl formed the band in 2002. The band's popularity grew from high-profile song placements in video games, films, commercials, and popular TV shows. Hide Another Mistake, off their debut album Over and Over, is pure Kinks! With Freddie Mercury vocals. Cool! From 20...
The 88 - Everybody Loves Me - Cover

"Everybody Love Me" by the 88! My fave Los Angeles band of the past 20 years. These guys are so damn good. You can hear how much Keith Slettedahl (singer, principal songwriter) loves the Kinks. This is also true of his clear regard for Freddy Mercury. I bet Keith can sing the Queen catalogue without lyric sheets. It's so clear. But, it's great too. Those influences are I think obvious in this t...
The 88 - Coming Home - Cover

Man, what a song! Man, what a band! The 88. Such a fine example of Los Angeles Power Pop. I can't think of another songwriter more influenced by the Kinks! Four on the floor chords! Coming Home is a tune off their debut album Over and Over. On that record there is not a single effort that isn't excellent. This song was on that album and then re-recorded for the next - Not Only But Also in 2008....

Sent by Angels by Arc Angels! What a fine piece of Texas Pop Rock. They were a Blues Rock band formed in Austin, Texas in the early 1990s. The band was composed of Guitarists and Singers Doyle Bramhall II and Charlie Sexton AND two former members of Stevie Ray Vaughan's band Double Trouble, Drummer Chris Layton and Bassist Tommy Shannon. Such a fine pedigree these guys had. I bet they killed it ...

Deathwish! Man, this is one of the songs that made me want to learn how to play the Guitar. I had to know how this was done. Andy Summers became one of my my idols right then and there. These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs - sometimes as a single guitarist playing the only guitar part, though that's rare. And sometimes if there is more than one g...
Simple Minds - Waterfront - Cover

Simple Minds! Out of so many, this is probably my fave song they ever did - Waterfront! It's all about the atmospherics on this live tune. This song is a 1983 single from Simple Minds, the first release from the album Sparkle in the Rain. Though this version is from the "Live in the City of Light" from 1987. It's amazing, and shows the power this band wielded live. It also shows just how cool a...
Last Bandoleros - Fly With You - Cover

Alright! Here's the next big band in America - the Last Bandoleros, with "Fly With You." These guys are the real deal. Like the Eagles, everyone in this band sings lead - and they harmonize like a dream. The Tex Mex aspect of this music is simply the icing on this particular cake. Colour me impressed. These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs - someti...

David and David - Swallowed by the Cracks - Cover
Also my favorite song from Valley Girl. Thanks for doing this! It helps a lot.
This is great. Fantastic tone. What pedals are you using for this? Which amp?
Thanks a lot! I’d say the tone stack was the Tele, in to a Strymon Riverside medium gain, and a timed slap back with one repeat…
our band always played this and Don't Dream its Over in in our last set...Neil Finn was so good at palm muting his rhythms and throwing in little tasty fills
He’s top shelf.
I love playing song like this...where I can jump back and forth between guitar parts...I remember play this in a band with 3 guitarists...you an I have such similar interests in guitar playing. Probably played in similar types of bands.
Nice! Always great to hear from people who feel the same about music.
I read your bio, I think you do an excellent job of matching tones and rhythms of the songs you're playing. I think well played rhythm, along with a solid drummer and bassist Take an "average band" To an excellent band. Putting in the time! ( lots of trial and error. )
Thanks very much! Yes, the sum is greater if all band members can combine well. Reggae is the perfect example of where everyone has holes in their parts - each at different places in the bar…
Always assumed it must have been an open g but it looks like it's in standard.
That’s how I hear it…
why have you not posted for a while
Dunno. 300+ different songs. I might be done…
Well done dude. You are right. These guys are one of the finest American bands ever. I saw them several times and they were an blast live. I miss them so much.
Thanks very much. They were so good. In the late 80s, they were the best Rock band in LA. I am fortunate enough to be able to say that my band at that time open for them twice.
Wow, what great taste ... my 3rd visit: 1st was XTC's "The Disappointed", then #2 Bram Tchaikovsky's "The Girl of My Dreams" and now JHS, "Talk of the Town" -- great taste> Thanks for your work and keep 'em coming! Thank you!
Have a look around. There more than 300 other songs. But thanks for the kind comment.
Ok !!! Brad Shepperd 2 👀👍
Thanks pal!
@theartofrhythmguitar try poison pen
Another great cover and another great tune, even if it were a one hit wonder. Did not know it was about a blow up doll.
Yeah. Judy was an American Girl. She came in the morning with the U.S Mail. Didn’t say nothing, but she looked pretty good to me…
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice axe collection ... and great taste with this tune from one of my fave bands ... excellent cover!
Thanks a lot! Have a look around, I bet there are a bunch of songs you’d like here if XTC is a fave band…
Just checking on you. Hope you are well.
Thank you! Yup. Just not gonna make a new vid til I get really inspired.
Can you do the song Bitch by the rolling stones next video keith richards part? or Gimme shelter please
Good idea. Those are. Great ones.
wow i that's my 2nd favorite song thank you for playing this to the world you sound amazing!
Wow, thank you!
So good bro!!
Appreciate it!! It''s pretty close...
Share tabs pls 🙏
Sorry no tabs. I learn every song by ear.
Love it. Best song from them. Loved what you did.
Thanks Jason! Well they’ve got two guitars. So this is a pretty good compromise.
bro ur still my favourite player
Thanks so much, LAMW!
Good job, man! I'm teaching this song to my daughter. Will get some parts of your cover and incorporate it in her version. Keep playing!
Awesome! Thanks a lot! It’s a fun syncopation song.
where did you get the backing track? or do you know the base notes for this? thanks!
I’m playing over the original recording, like all of my vids. Sorry, dunno the Bass.
What is the tuning for this on the AMP?
It’s capo at the sixth fret. So it’s in c# major.
What kind of guitar is that? I can’t make out the name clearly and I don’t recognize the headstock but the writing looks like à larivee
It is a Larrivee RS4. The best built Les Paul outside of the Custom Shop. I put the Bigsby on myself.
Excellent. Nailed, screw and glued.
It’s such a fine song.
기타톤 너무 좋아요. from South Korea.^^
Thanks very much!
You played all with bridge pickup. I wonder what Andy Summers used the neck pickup for?
I dunno.
So much inspirational playing on your channel! Subbed!
Awesome, thank you! This one is the hardest song to play on my channel. Relentless. That’s what it is.
@@theartofrhythmguitar I love your mix as you can really hear what you're contributing. Those chorus rifs are sublime. Congrats!
Dude, such an underrated band. And it’s a shame they only put out one album. So happy I came across this cover
Thanks very much. I’m pretty close on the part here.
Excellent! Totally learnable
Thanks. I’m fairly close on the guitar breaks….
Nice! One of the best "Ah Leah" demos on RUclips! Played correctly and clean. Good job.
Wow, thanks! Such an interesting history to this song…
@@theartofrhythmguitar Pure PAF magic! So simple. So powererful. I [oved it as soon as I heard it on the radio...WAY BACK! Time flies don't it?
Dude! So good!! Good job!! I just saw them live and they played this banger! Good job!!!!
Thanks very much! Appreciated.
great job. can you tab out the lead?
Thanks Tom! Sorry. Don’t know how to do that. But RUclips allows you to slow down videos without changing the pitch. Sometimes I do that…
You deserve multiple zeros behind your numbers
Thanks! I’m all right with a few views. I have over 350 song videos. So if you want to learn a song that I covered, a song you searched for, maybe I’ll come up in your feed. And that’s exactly how I want my videos to come across people’s radar…random.
Where can I get the tabs. Ultimate guitar not authentic
I have no idea. I learned it by ear. My guitar is pretty close. Not perfect, but close.
Incredibly clean palm mutes!! Such an easy technic but underrated! Extremely well played sir!
Thanks a lot! It’s such a great Mike Campbell song.
Frosty! Beautiful guitars.
Thanks a lot! Appreciated.
Play Rudy can’t fail
That’s a great song!
Great playing and great track
Thanks a lot! Appreciated.
🔥🎸✌️✌️🖤🖤☮️
Thank you!
Cool Rivolta on the wall back here.
It’s so great.
All the chops, great tone and perfect timing. Great job!
Thanks a lot!
I seen them live in 2003 and the keyboard sounds were played by effects on guitar 🎸...
I did not know that!
Wish it was at 432hz
Yeah. That would be something.
thanks
It’s classic Elliot.
What amp are you using? i see a Vox in the background but not sure if its plugged into it haha
I’m using both amps. And they are captured by a pro mic mounted with my iPhone.
Fantastic song!
It's a Canadian classic.
WOW Telecaster magic sound !!
It's a great one. I love it!
Love it!
Thanks very much John. Appreciated.
Im addicted to this song
You and me both!
