Crowded House - Better Be Home Soon - Cover - Personal Faves Series
Better Be Home Soon! Crowded House! It is a song written by Neil Finn and was released as a single in June 1988. It performed modestly on both the American and British charts, but peaked at number two in Australia and New Zealand. The song appeared on the album Temple of Low Men. In 2001, and the song was voted by members of APRA as the 33rd best New Zealand song of the 20th century. In 2005, following drummer Paul Hester's death, Neil Finn performed the song solo at the ARIA Awards while a montage of Hester's life was played in the background. It's such a fine piece of songwriting.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - The Nightwatchman - Cover - Personal Faves Series

Yes sir! The Nightwatchman by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers! It's really a cool song. It's weird. But cool. Mike Campbell's pseudo-funky Guitar is the price of admission here. It's all about that Guitar for me. These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs - sometimes as a single guitarist playing the only guitar part, though that's rare. And sometimes ...
The Police - Bed's Too Big - Cover Personal Faves Series

Ok, here's another song off of Regatta de Blanc that I simply love - Bed's too Big. This is the tune that made me get truly serious about playing the Guitar. I needed to be able to do this. It's another Police song with a unique way to play a Reggae groove. It's busier than most Reggae Guitar parts, but it is stressing the off-beats like it should. Also, it features a cavernous reverb on Stewar...

Daydream Believer! Man, this is probably the second happiest chorus ever written, after Sweet Caroline. I love it so much, it's kind of hard to explain. This is ear candy of the highest order. It's so Neil Diamond too; so much so, that I was convinced he wrote this song. He didn't. The guy from the Kingston Trio did: John Stewart. Colour me impressed. Yay! Another mid-period U2 song! Angel of Harlem! This is a song written to be played with the The Memphis Horns, a legendary Section who played on all sorts of Stax recordings. They are gods. That's why there's so little actual Guitar on this track. Just some Rhythm Guitar. Oh, and Larry's drumming is inspired. Inspired I say. Caleb Caudle is a great writer. American Songwriter said it best, "If this Caleb Caudle album sounds even more relaxed and laid back than usual, it’s probably because the recently clean and sober singer-songwriter moved from New Orleans back to his home state of North Carolina. While he was never a Rocker, the laconic lope of these eleven songs follows from the opening “Gotta Be” with its float...

Now, here's something awesome! Action by Sweet. Why this was not a huge hit I have no idea. It's got it all. Style. Intensity. A Great Melody. Inventive Harmonies. Power Stops. I like that. I just made that up, "Power Stops!" It's when you've been Rocking really hard and you just stop, and in that gap you suck in the listener. Uber cool. Everyone loves Power Stops. Alright! More U2! This came out in 2017 and it is a really a great song: "You're the Best Thing About Me." It's got all the modern U2 stuff going on: Edge's semi-Punk Guitar embellished by his atmospheric playing, Adam's groovy Bass throb, and Larry's military Drumming. It's a nice backdrop for Bono to yell happy things over. This is clearly a love song for his wife. Nice one. These videos serv...

Yay! More Tom Petty! Here's another great track from Tom's forgotten 1982 album Long After Dark - Finding Out. This record was as out and out Rocking as they ever got. Alright! Starry Eyes by the Records! This is as near to a perfect Power Pop tune that has ever been recorded. It's too damn good, really. While not a Top 40 tune, this song peaked at number 56 on the Billboard charts in October, 1979. I remember it from back then. It's a Top 10 for me though! That year it was right up there with Nick Lowe's "Cruel to Be Kind." 1979 was a good year for Rock. The...

    I was actually going to ask your opinion on the guitar in the Monkeys songs as I have a commute by car and had a Monkeys CD playing this week. I enjoyed the btight 60s guitar on their songs, my question would be was the studio guitar parts done on a Telecaster? Obviously the Monkeys visually could have any guitar featured in the TV episodes but curious it you suspect a Telecaster?

    I'm loving that Lariveé...I have an 40 year old Larriveé 00 Acoustic. I assume those are Humbuckers? I had a second owner 71 Les Paul Custom that I sold a while back...but really missed that fat sound...so with the cash I made I bought a Reverend HB Charger, a used National 14 fret dobro and a used Vox AC30. I hated to sell the LP but I can't justify buying more guitars without giving something up. I have a feeling your'e from Canada. I'm a Canadian living in Prague for 30 years. Love to hear some more Hip...We played a lot of Tragically Hip in my bar band days...one of the best two guitar bands ever. I play a lot in open tunings so I like a lot of Baker's stuff like Fiddlers Green and Boots or Hearts. Keep'em coming brother.

    • @theartofrhythmguitar
      @theartofrhythmguitar 8 дней назад

      Great comment! Yep, I’m Canadian. I also have a 1977 L11 Larrivee. My only acoustic. I opened for the Hip in 1988 when all they had out was the EP. And relatedly, I covered Last American Exit, Small Town Bringdown, and Courage elsewhere on the channel. The Electric is an RS-4. Superb build quality. I put the Bigsby on myself.

    • @ldhorricks
      @ldhorricks 8 дней назад

      @@theartofrhythmguitar I have a Tele Vintera with exact same Bigsby...I hated stringing it until I bought a "Vibramate" bridge piece that it makes stringing the guitar so much easier. It's enough of a pain stringing my Rickenbacker 620 with that ridiculous "R" tailpiece...of course the trick I found was to replace each string one at a time so there is tension on the tailpiece....what was Rickenbacker thinking? Do you have any experience with Godin Guitars? I was looking at the Godin CW Kingpin II Fifth Avenue arch-top...it seems really nice...love those "dog-ear" P90's...my Larriveé needs some French Canadian company. I could never figure why the Hip didn't make it bigger south of the border...maybe they were too Canadian?

    I keep coming back to your channel....we have a lot in common in music taste and what we enjoy as guitarists. I like you played numerous bands over the years...I always gravitated to rhythm and wasnt much interested soloing...I just liked playing fun progressions with nice tasty licks and runs maybe some arpeggios thrown in. sure the odd tasteful solo ala Mike Campbell...but never interested in soling all over the neck. My music theory is limited...I learn everything by ear, but I mostly know what I'm playing. I do play some finger-style blues and slide especially on my dobro...but what I really enjoy is exactly what you. And I found when I was playing bands it was the rhythm parts that people recognised and connected to...its what got them on the dance floor. And Rhythm runs a whole gamut of playing... it incorporates so many things. Its not just strumming like many people think. Peter Buck, Mike Campbell, Johnny Marr , Bob Marley, Johnny Ramone, Brad Whitford, Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, Stone Gossard, Bob Weir, Pete Townsend, Chrissy Hynde, Keith Richards, Malcom Young, Neil Young, Dave Davies, Tom Petty...Joe Strummer, Billy Corgan, Rick Ocasek, too many to name.
