I like the ventilation slots. Looks well ventilated. Nice looking unit, too.

I have had similar experiences with Onkyo, they seem to like wiping out
chips that are hard to find and not easy to replace unless you invest in a surface mount
    rework station.
All modern amps / receivers are now like this and most are destined for recycling.

I've been using a TX 8050 for the past year and its been a great receiver for my setup. I appreciate all the inputs it has and its one of the few receivers that supports HD radio (with a separate dongle). The only thing I wish it had was the ability for you to custom name the inputs.

    Thanks dave..
Many Eons ago I picked up some Brass hobby Tubing that fit over 3 sizes of those Nylon standoffs.
Many Phone PBX's used a lot of those. I kept some 2" long ones on My Daily work Key ring. Saved so much frustration trying to release those. AHAHAHAHA
I like the other Mic better. I like the abidance of the Room.

36:00 You've lost the room acoustics, but that's about it really; I prefer the camera mike, as the "voice-over" presentation seems a bit weird.

When you resoldered the cracked transistor I seen a jumper which is also had a broken solder connection (1-2 cm far) very close from the loose transistor. Maybe it worth to re inspect that part.

I have a couple of Onkyo receivers however there both old. One is from the late 80s and is used on my main system. The other is from mid 80s and is used to test audio gear that I'm working on or to play music when I'm working. Unfortunately this one uses STK modules and stereo has three of them. Both needed no repair when I got them they just worked fine and I also got them for very cheap.

Did you check for audio signal coming out of the Audio processor chip (before and after the DC blocking cap there)? If the main signal output from the DSP is dead, you might be able to rewire the zone2 signal outs over to those blocking caps...

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  3 месяца назад +4

No there was no money in this. It was just a check over before he recycled it which he now has (with me). I'll likely go over this in more depth at some future time when i am bored. Or I might just use for parts. Anyone who thinks that there's money to be made fixing equipment these days is mistaken. At least in this area because equipment is so cheap people just replace it. The Sony box at this came in was the actual replacement receiver so this one was heading to recycling and it dropped by my place on the way there to see if it was something simple which it wasn't so it continued to recycling in this case I was told to keep it.

"That's why we invented needle-nose pliers... so we can lose parts inside the unit" - 12voltvids '24. LOL! And I agree, Onkyo "used" to be good, now they're just junk. Can anyone say "Integra"?

Sure right, had a couple "newer" ACRs from them in the past, lost a lot of money on them (bought then failed). I now have an A-5 Stereo Integrated that I bought to sell, but I think I will keep it. Only issues is the muting switch broke, I tried fixing it but was unsuccessful., no big deal.

I'm not sure if I sent this question to you yet but while using the ESR box and you come across a cap that has a value greater than the ones on the chart, how do you calculate their number value?

Érdemes lett volna rákeresni az interneten, mert sokan foglalkoztak ezzel a problémával! A hálózati kártya alsó felén van egy dts chip amit újra kell melegíteni és visszajön a hang. A tökéletes megoldás a chip cseréje. Én házilag többet is javítottam melegítéssel, és több évig is működhet. Pár percet vesz igénybe a művelet. Sok időt megspórolhattál volna egy kis olvasással.... ;-)

The owner had already replaced it and wanted to see if it could be fixed for 40.00. It's mine now so some day when I have nothing better to do it will probably go on the bench again.

Handset sounds better but captures less of ambient sounds, so any sound of you picking on the stuff or the noise from the machine (which is often very useful to hear) is eliminated :)

Audio with more than two channels is a scam to pull money out of the pocket of customers. You got two ears. And there are songs from the 80s and 90s that have been mixed by audio wizards that make you think it's Dolby(R) Atmos(TM) with just two correctly set up speakers in a normal room. Stereo is all we ever needed. Anything else is a scam.

    • @12voltvids

For music I agree. Movies is totally different. you may only have two ears but you can certainly still place a soundstage of what's in front beside or behind you and that is where the multi-channel effects are appreciated. Hearing that bullet for example ricochet around the room you can't do that with two speakers

What a load of garbage. At least vintage stuff is repairable, for the most part. So much for recycling and the environment yet most of today's stuff will end up in a pile of garbage somewhere...
By the way, why don't you continue trying to diagnose things so many times, it takes the fun out of watching the video. Aren't you still getting paid by youtube ?... I guess they're not paying well either these days.... I wish you put up your videos on other platforms too but we know youtube doesn't like competition and their terms of service shows...

This unit had a limit as to how much the customer that owned it was preparing to spend on it which was not much. He'd already replaced it with a new one so once I told him where we were at he told me to keep it. now that it's mine I'll probably go back and spend some more time on it at some point when I have time. As to RUclips pay me yes they do, and it would be better if I didn't have so damn many invalid views. Invalid views are caused by people that use ad blockers and I don't have much patience for people that use ad blockers so don't tell me you use one because I might ban you if you do. I get paid from ad revenue and when people use ad blockers I don't get paid when I don't get paid I have to question myself as to why I even bother. That's still going on to other platforms that will never happen because they don't pay either. They expect you to collect money from the viewers but from what I've experienced people just don't pay they want it for free they don't pay. I know someone who's been on rumble for years and he makes nothing. Squat zero.
