      @@tatsumisouma For me, the reason is that I don't do well with textbooks -- I lose focus. I can follow theory if provided in accessible places and ways, like if Duolingo had grammar points explained that you could go back and review. But the gameification helps

    • @tatsumisouma
      @tatsumisouma 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@kennethiain that's understandable. Although Duolingo isn't the best tool either. At least in Japanese (and as I see in Korean as well) it makes no sense a lot of times. Also it speaks (at least in Japanese) Google translate Japanese. A lot of times it creates sentences where if you translate the sentence it means what it says but in reality no one speaks like that

    You can report when you think the phrase is correct. Back when Duo was only a site I studied English (I'm a Br-Portuguese speaker) and reported SO MANY stuff and they sent feedbacks warning me my answers were now accepted. Always report, they'll use your alternative responses eventually if they're correct.
    (If some English speaker is learning Br-Portuguese, you're welcome, I increased your possible answers 😅).

    • @anthonybotello694
      @anthonybotello694 11 месяцев назад +5

      Not trying to be rude and I’m trying to help you understand English better. Your use of “warning” was incorrect and I’m assuming you meant to have used “notified”. As a native English speaker warning has a negative connotation and can be taking the complete wrong way when used in conversation. Hope this helps 🙂

    I'm on unit 30 of Duolingo Korean, and I always choose to use the keyboard because it's easier to memorize new words by typing them. I find myself having to look at the options when I'm not sure in what way they want me to say it. They try to add as many acceptable translations as possible, but because English and Korean are so different, that's not always easy. I've gotten sentences wrong for writing the -요 form when they wanted the -습니다 form, so now I don't take any chance and just look at the suggestions to see which form they want before I submit the answer.
    I think it could be nice eventually if the question specified which politeness level they're expecting.

    • @essennagerry
      @essennagerry Год назад +2

      It's good for learning to first think about the answer without any help so I think what you're doing is good! Not taking chances but you're still thinking about it beforehand and you know exactly what you're looking for when you look at the options. Even if you're way off just doing that cognitive effort is benefitial to learning.

      4:40 And I'm genuinely impressed how you managed to correctly type "예요" instead of the tempting yet wrong "에요". Even the native Koreans living in Korea often miswrite that. And whenever they do, it makes me die inside bit by bit. LOL
      P.S to nay non-Koreans reading this comment. The 거예요/거에요 relation is the equivalent of that of have/of; they are in no way the same, but they do sound close enough to be mistaken.

    A couple of things that annoy me about Duolingo, apart from these stupid sentences, is the small words that you forget that don’t need to be there and things that you’re supposed to know but have never heard of eg. yellow dust (which is not a thing where I live), Sseollal, Ancestral Rites, raccoon dog… . I’ve been learning Korean for over two years (from actual teachers not just Duolingo) so I have a bit more knowledge on the language, how to write it etc and Duolingo annoys the hell out of me to the point I want to throw my phone at the wall
