    • @dstreetz91
      @dstreetz91 3 года назад

While those are amazing numbers the era during which Morphy played is far different from today or even 60 years ago. In 2020 when engines have been crunching basically every opening in the history of chess and people have analyzed everything a whole lot more it's a lot easier to draw a game since grandmasters know what lines are losing for either position.

@@dstreetz91 the amazing thing about morphy is that he played remarkable supercomputer moves… the best move… very often and consistently. He did this before computers, and is more impressive in retrospect, the better computers get. The only flaw of his chess play is how bad his opponents are but he destroys them with perfect precision moves . and it s mind blowing i think his talent is incomparable

And because of one "simple" term you used in one of the videos I today made my first brilliant move on chess.com. I was so happy I have been trying for ever to get a brilliant move and now I got it with a move like that that I couldn't have come up with without your comment!

And after the tournament was organised, black was hoping to sacrifice his money for some interesting counterplay for Lowenthal. However, white does not immediately accept the sacrifice. First he captures Kipping blindfolded and only now, as his reputation is adequately defended, captures Staunton. So we have captures captures, and at the end we can see that Lowenthal has the last laugh as he is now up the exchange, but perhaps not the whole laugh as we can see Morphy is now nicely developed and Lowenthal never got an opportunity to threaten him.

Another way to look at it is that this game was played in a blindfold simultaneous exhibition. Ok, Morphy blundered, and Kipping won.
But Morphy managed to beat several OTHER competitors. Garry Kasparov, another guy who could beat practically any grandmaster at the height of his power, wouldn't even play a simul with anyone rated over 2000. Here, Morphy wasn't afraid of any of them, and he managed to score at least two wins against guys who were supposedly professional players.
You have to admire the gall of a 20 year old guy who challenges people who have been professional players for 10 or 20 years to exhibition games, and they gladly play him, because they know he is better.

@@honourabledoctoredwinmoria3126 I believe after this blindfold simul, Morphy is supposed to have said he was confident he could play a twenty board blindfold simul. I don't know how true that is. I believe he played three blindfold simuls, one in England, one four board in USA,and another in USA, the boards I don't know. And one five board simul (not blindfold mind you,for it would have been humanly impossible even for Morphy) against the best five chess heavyweights, namely,Bird,De Riviere,Boden, Barnes and loewenthal. Won two, drew two and lost one. You can guess the loss. By the way great commentary and well argued. Good day to you sir.

Apart from loewenthal, Anderssen also played against Steinitz, the score being 11-11. So you can guess morphy's level of play.

Staunton kept avoiding the match with Morphy but had time to play in this tournament? I understand the match with Morphy would take significantly more time, but it seems pretty clear to me he was stalling after seeing Morphy destroy his buddies.

    This opening reminds me of the game played by Napoleon Bonaparte, YOU SHOULD REALLY LOOK INTO THAT ONE: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 Nd4 4. Nd4 ed4 5. Bc4 Bc5 6. c3 Qe7 7. O-O Qe5 8. f4 dc3 9. Kh1 cb2 10. Bf7 Kd8 11. fe5 ba1Q 12. Bg8 Be7 13. Qb3 a5 14. Rf8 Bf8 15. Bg5 Be7 16. Be7 Ke7 17. Qf7 Kd8 18. Qf8#
It's one of the four games played by Napoleon Bonaparte that we have today, when Napoleon was exiled in St. Helena, and it's really a short but amazing game. Hope you'll do a video about that! #Suggestion

I wonder what's the STRONGEST field of opponents anyone has faced in a blindfold exhibition? If it was for example Carlsen against Nakamura, So, Caruana, Nepomniachi, Ding, Firouzha (spelling, sorry) - how would that go?

Kipping knows that Morphy is well versed in the secrets of the scotch. Well he guzzles them by the gallon., I suppose. Hence agad air's quote.

I don't see a problem with black capturing the rook on e1 (R×e1+) with check followed by capturing the bishop (c×b5).

After O-O Morphy is not worried about the pin. If Qf6, then I assume that has to play something like e5, dxe5, Re1? This looks risky, and a long way from "no problems here."

but just thought as these games are from the 1850s you should be saying "P. to K's 4th." LoL but I think there would be a lot of people not knowing what you are saying :)

At the beginning of the Bond movie From Russia with Love there is a chess game with one of the villains playing white. After two moves black resigns. It seems to me black's position is stronger than one would think. Are you familiar with this scene? Would you perhaps have a video analyzing it for us.

Hey agad. I have a question. Recently i started playing chess again and I found an interesting combination on the sicilian defence (open variation) in which black pushes e5 after the white knight captures the black pawn. 1 e4 c5 2 kf2 kc3 3 d4 xd4 4 kd4 e5) i would like to see a game of which you know that was played in this variation or comment on this so I can improve it
