It was a misty, cold December morning in 2020. I opened RUclips just to get some Christmas music in the background, when an ominous thumbnail rose up from the general clutter like a sore thumb. With a racing heart, I nipped to the galley to grab a mug of hot cocoa and my pipe, then sat down and muttered "The dice have been cast. It's all or nothing now" as I clicked on the thumbnail with a trembling hand. The BazBattle was about to begin...
Don't leave us waiting for this long!! I have seen already this video and can't wait for the next!! It's like a drug!! Please for our sake make moreeeeeeeee
Wonderful video! Next to the Crusades, the Anarchy is one of my favorite [eriods in medieval history. That is one big family fight. (Love Matilida's reactions and the 3rd trivia at the end!) Man that archbishop! What a hero!
I don't know how to describe it, but when BazBattles adds a new video is like I've stumbled upon a legendary weapon in a rpg game :). Ultra rare and awesome, like nothing else!
Playing CK3 and dealing with succession crisis really made me empathize with King Stephen. Unrest! Rebellion! Invasion! More rebellion! Oh, someone sent me a nice plush carpet. That's nice.
I read somewhere that reading "A song of Ice and Fire" by G.R.R. Martin (and Westeros' lore as well) was to read a fantasy version of the history of England. I see now where he got the inspiration for the "Dance of Dragons", a Targaryen civil war.
Not English but I've never heard of The Anarchy, so off to Wikipedia I go. This video is 8 months old, I subscribe to BazBattles but this is the first time I've seen it. RUclips algorithms suck as bad as Wargaming.
I will never understand battles like these. David yielded to the demands of Galwegians, they rushed and charged at the enemy and everthing is fine up until here. What i don't understand is why David hesitated to support the Galwegians with the rest of his army. He outnumbered the enemy and still managed to lose. Galwegians wanted to be on the first line and charge first. Their wishes were fullfilled so it's not like David didn't support them because it would be a dishonorable act for them. Can someone explain it to me 😕?
My thoughts exactly, surely it's important to deploy all your strength at the same time to overwelm the opponent - not offer half your army to them, while the rest sit back and watch. They must have not had room to deploy I guess. Or maybe David wanted the Galwegians to die, who knows.
From some stuff I've read about the battle, it seems that King David may not have had full control of the army on the day of battle. There seemed to be quite a bit of debate of who got to lead the first assault. The Galwegians demanded they lead it due to some ancient tradition and/or due to their recent victory at Clitharoe. Some of the nobility, who included Normans (who may have felt insulted by playing 2nd fiddle to Scots), challenge this proclamation and told David to stick to his original plan. David however, relented to the Galwegians and when the battle occurred, David "may have" ordered the remaining men forward, but the nobles "may have" refused his orders. Once the Galwegians broke, David apparently dismounted to lead the remaining men on foot, but they turned and ran. Here's a really good article that covers this battle if you want to know more. warfarehistorynetwork.com/2015/11/17/battle-of-the-standard-august-22-1138-ad/
