Do you have a link to the article by Marcia on the movie "Inside Out?"
I was saved out of Buddhism and other new age thought as well. The cool thing is that while I was a Buddhist, I began to want to trace the written doctrines and writings and was left wanting when I realized the written works were separated by hundreds of years from the supposed Buddha I claimed to follow. This wanting lead me to the Bible and to think twice about Jesus. Jesus is Lord!
Really?, you need to watch some Bart Ehrman... here ya go ruclips.net/video/W5HQzqPjwFw/видео.html
@@yeahyeahyeahyeahwhatever here you go, some refutations to that video ruclips.net/video/rjFqbVR_Ogw/видео.html
Doesn’t that same logic apply
@@dame4everan from one "true way" to another "true way". " i used to be apart of a religion that i thought was true, now im apart of an actual, true religion".
@@dame4ever Depends on the scholar you ask when it comes to exact dates, but based on the evidence the gospels were written by the apostles while people who had seen and heard Jesus taught were still living. Christ died around AD 33. Some put the book of Matthew in the 60s AD. What's even more fascinating is oral tradition. Only about 10% of people in Jesus time were literate. So much was memorized and passed down orally. It is likely there was a very, very early oral tradition of Jesus life that the gospel writers used. Essentially, Christ's words were being committed to memory insanely early (especially considering how much later other ancient documents have from time of event and the record of it). Another thing if you're curious.... Google the John Ryland's fragment. It's evidence that the gospels have been catefully passed down from the originals. Hope this helps with your question.
the red gate in the thumbnail that we're all familiar with is actually from Shinto theology, not Buddhism. Shintoism is represented well in Spirited Away for anyone who's curious.
My kids LOVE that movie. Although I am 1/4 Japanese I had no idea the theme was Shintoist.
It is interesting how Buddhism really seems to deny reality. Our thoughts are important to pay attention to. We as Christians need to be in tune with our thoughts so we can bring them to God and bring them under obedience to Christ.
Yes indeed.
I thought for sure the Beatles would come up in this discussion because of their visit to India and support of transcendental meditation with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It made big news!
It’s only part one. It might not be information that will contribute anything substantially useful as they’re trying to push as much as possible into this series.
It’s discussed in part two.
They were brought up in the episode on new age and Hinduism.
Yes and Media is pushing Hinduism big time now! Yoga, Chakras, incense, etc.
As a child in the 70s, and growing to adulthood in the 90s, it is so obvious the influence the beat poets had on the music of REM, 10,000 Maniacs, etc. TV as well.
Yes indeed! Ginsberg and the Beats. Spot on.
I had to look up the Beatniks. Wow, didn't know that was a thing! It's so fun to learn new things
Nothing praiseworthy about a man who abandons his wife and kids to become a bum and shirk his responsibilities.
Today we call them losers.
Luke 14: 25-27
@jalRVA this verse is not about husbands abandoning their wives and families.
Always learn a lot listening to Marcia! Thank you for having her on your show!😊
Learned alot about Buddhism
Fern and Gully!!!!
And I remember my dad talking about all these folks from the other generation, like the Beatniks. He was a Vietnam veteran, and he talked about all the different hippies. Lol! I loved hearing it all. ♥️😂🙏🏽
Its interesting that she mentions the Beat Poetry book of Buddhist poetry, when the example I think of is the well known Jack Kerouac tome Scripture Of The Golden Eternity which is his sutra on Buddhist philosophy. Buddhism was 100% the religion of choice of the Beat Generation and drove much of what they did, even though they pretty much were all born Jewish and Christians. One of the Beats was Gary Snyder, who lived in Japan, and translated many Buddhist scriptures into English. The idea of getting in touch with one's inner self of Buddhism was essentially the essence of the Beats. Very much the opposite of the later Hippies who wanted to 'tune out.' Jack writes in the Dharma Bums about meditating without drugs or alcohol (or women). (He failed.)
Lots of good Alan Watts lectures/snippets of lectures on RUclips, I recommend them. 🙂
Yes. 💙
Marcia is an amazing sister!!
This was a fantastic podcast. I thought I knew a lot about the new age and how it tries to compare/attach itself on to Christ. This lady and you guys have taught me something new.
If you are reading this, Don't Give Up! You will make it! I know you will.
Never give up on yourself.
I believe in you! 💖🙏
I learned so much from this discussion. I am really looking forward to part 2. God bless ✝️
Guys, guys I love you and all the hard work you've brought forth and many more, but that Budda Introductory song did freak me out. My Faith is strong in The Lord Jesus Christ, but not strong enough to listen to that Budda song 😀. Remain blessed and thank you as always
Tina turner was a devout Buddhist too. In her words Buddhist saved her life
Too bad for her.
Tragedy to follow a false god...
I am the Kraken, my name's McCracken!
Thank you so very much🙏👍😊!
Yay, Marcia!
I can sense the demonic influence of this music in the intro.
I thought that a dojo was where you go to school to become a ninja
Love this show
Me too!
Me 2!
I appreciated the speaker's not infrequent admissions of non-expertise, because much of what she says is almost EXCLUSIVELY applicable to Western, synthetic, New Age Buddhists. Her dismissal of the ethical core of Buddhism is clearly influenced by her participation in American New Age nonsense, among self-centered hippie Boomers whose compassion WAS little more than a facade, but to paint authentic Buddhists with that broad brush isn't just uncharitable but inaccurate and misleading.
100% agree but this is what I expect from a surface level understanding of Zen or Daoist thought.
Theists need to verify their god is real and the only one, not Buddhists. Buddhism is not reliant on written texts. The guest's view is only her view based on her study and her practice, not the alpha and omega of the totality of reality.
I spent 3 years in Japan. The Buddhism there is corrupted as its mixed with Shinto (even when the theology contradicts) and the government has a hand in it. I believe at one point they even fabricated some theological texts. I also spent a summer practicing zen at the San Francisco Zen Center. While there I spent time with a visiting monk from Japan. I told him I was moving to Japan and he said the Buddhism I found at the San Fran Zen Center was more authentic than what what going on in Japan.
So the Buddha was raised in Nepal, but didn't know sickness and poverty existed? Yeah, I'm not believing that.
Being raised as a sheltered prince does that to you.
Because if you actually read his story you would know that his father kept him very sheltered up until he was able to leave the castle. I'm not saying this sorry is true, but that's the reason that is given as to why he didn't know of old age, sickness, and death.
Buddism a just a philosophy at best. Reality is considered absurd. Logic is absurd. To let go of the noble path is nirvana probably.
I have heard Buddhists get together and play their music at a farmer's market and the sound was very eerie along with the dark spirit with it.
Does any of this have any connection with martial arts just wondering
Yes&yes!
How do we reach out to the craken for an interview?
First
According to Jewish thought, demons are the spirits of dead nephalim, which were the children of fallen angels and humans. This is one reason why they seek re-embodiment so frequently (they once had a body and want one again). Just sharing another theory.
i heard that champilopo is the realest god, he looks like a frog with a horse leg as his head. he can fly and dance on his leghead.
Guys, seriously... I'm under 30 and I know who beatniks were -.-
Zazen opens doors
Can I have to link to the article about the movie she is talking about. I thought my husband was the only person who really disliked it to the point he banned it from our home. 😂
"Phd student" is a great euphemism for "debt slave" these days. Sounds a lot better. Congrats to her for learning the word amalgamation, too. 5 syllables: I give her 5 smiley stickers. Using broad descriptions is helpful at a broad level to describe broad concepts, something that this broad doesn't seem to understand. Also, not sure how she's going to pay off all that Indian Phd debt, oh, I mean, Nepalese, Himalayan mountain range Phd expertise debt. Maybe she can work with the Sherpas.
On youtube : The Maitreya from the west (The New Buddha) Explains why Rael IS the Maitreya from the west
long awaited by the asian religions!
Talking about christianity being true because it's documented cracked me up🤣 Also, the bit about people changing and adding to the philosofy in eastern cultures like that doesn't happen in christianity it' s just... You can't be serious. I appreciate the guest anyway. She seems to have read a lot.
New King James Version
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
-2 Timothy 3:16
There are some bad translations of the original Hebrew or Greek in the Bible, but it's God-breathed and good translations accurately portray God's written word.
Boom
A short cut to nirvana would be to end your life. These teachings are all about apathy, and in essence, nihilism. So sad.
and christianity isn't a cult right?
Noooo they're all "saved "
@@solworx ; )
Christianity is a religion. Cult is not a religion. I.e. Christianity is not a cult. That puzzle was easy.
@@mariogagliardi8491 What determines if it's a religion or a cult? The number of believers in the cult? So if it's mainstream and you have enough believers in the nonsense its now a "religion" and not a cult right?
@@bandawhat33 It takes generations to establish a religion, and a few days to concoct a cult, doesn't it.
Love your show, but please allow your guests to speak…
What an empty way to live
Buddhism is not religion, it's kind of a hygiensystem.
If the Buda was real, if the religion does date back to 29AD, he could have met Jesus. He could have been that man Jesus told to go sell his possessions. Budism, as we know it, could have started as a twisting of Christianity from a church Paul didn’t get to.
