The Parelli Method applies to other herd animals, as well! Using his method, I have had great success training a yearling Texas Longhorn, now 9 yrs old, to ride, drive and do tricks!

This is one of my favorite Parelli videos. Easy to learn how to gain a horses confidence. Horses love real leadership. Being around a leader calms them down. Horses expect people to use force. When Pat removes force, they are blown away to be around a human that understands them. This video is also funny. Excellent content. Thanks for sharing with the world, so horses can live a better life.

What was said in this comment is hilarious. He took an almost completely untrained horse, and applied force to him for an hour, in order to remove it. He didn't gain cooperation, he just exhausted the horse out by making him run for an hour to the MOST annoying of music.

I remember the traditional way. I didn't like it then and I don't like it now. I've always known something was wrong with the old methods. But, to try to suggest something was like pulling teeth. No one wants to take suggestions from a kid even though the kid just might be on to something.
      That kid, was me.

I have watched a few trainers, and I have to say that Pat knows what he is talking about and I like the fact that he takes his time with the horse and not force them, like some trainers do. They don't have the patience and like to criticize about others who are successful. It's not the Parelli program that messes up the horse, is what people do after the training that what messes up the horse do to the fact that they don't continue with the program because they want it the easy way or the highway, it's as simple as that. When you have one sided mind, you can't possible see the other side.

This is a video I watched many times. I have got a rescue horse - a noble animal that was a very expensive show jumper until he broke his shoulder several years ago, so is a pet-horse since his rescue from the mince machine - and understand his body language and his looks and expressions perfectly, thanks to Pat Parelli. Like Cesar Millan in teaching people to understand and correctly handle dogs, Pat Parelli is one of the most valuable teachers around. Respectful, understanding and playful with horses. It does not take much to see how the animals gain trust and start having fun when he works with them, even though, as he says, horses are "born sceptics, cowards, claustrophobics and panic-a-holics to various degrees..." - I love the showmanship, the word games, and don't mind his occasional lack of political correctness, for there does not seem to be any malice in it.

We have rescued many many horses through our horse rescue and his methods have helped every horse we have taken in. The Parelli's have helped a lot of horses who would otherwise have been abused. Thank you Pat and Linda.

Others may use different methods, but that wouldn't give you the right to criticize others and I am sure you wouldn't. I learned a lot watching this video and it did what it was meant to accomplish. The two most important things in this video are patience and a loose rein which overcomes the horse's natural claustrophobia. By the end of the video, the horse is combatting his remaining feelings of anxiety by moving closer to the trainer, where he now feels safe. The horse has gone from thinking, 'no way am i taking orders from anybody' to 'hey, this guy really knows his stuff!' :)

This video is up for the benefit of others who are interested in Parelli's methods or are having trouble and are open to learning. I understand that you don't agree with his training, but the horse in this video actually benefited from this clinic. I am not a Parelli obsessed person, but sometimes, his training stye is exactly what a horse needs. It's based around respect and if you go into it thinking it isn't going to work, it isn't. So the effectiveness depends on the person.

I am about to load 2 of my horses in the trailer on Sunday. My plan was to do it the cowboy way, walk them to the trailer and if they don't load, lunge them for a few minutes, than try and load them again and if not, lunge them for a good 5-10 minutes until they give in. But I prefer Perelli's way, I think it's nice when you ask a horse to load without making them load and they load on their own. So, with this said, I'm taking my trailer over to the barn tomorrow morning and will work with each of them and use Pat's way to load them. I really hope I know what I'm doing and that I do it right for my horses. I will defiantly come back here and post my results.

English know is bad, so through an Interpreter. Pat Parelli really changed my life! Fundamentally changed the mentality! Other eyes saw not only the horse, as a person, but people and dogs...All and all the world. Even politics, which, in fact, especially. in Russia, at Home, I am not interested, for the simple reason that I can not change anything, but I began to understand and feel differently. Such in "the little man" - is Huge! And horses I have 2-both saved, behave, as dogs, only language communication with them - " on Parelli." The filly is lame, to lie it is difficult, and a gelding to bed, I sit down and we go to the pasture halter, and the Mare in the back...works and plow and harrow. And Spud potatoes. However, in the city with a trolley - Western mouthpieces, on a loose leash just in case. (Russia, Novosibirsk)

My Favorite Trailer Loading Demo, I think it was at the same event, but not on the Topper Video, is when Pat had the person, sit in a chair on the side of the trailer and ask the horse to load simply by using the carrot stick by tapping the horse's rear with the string, when he was going away from the trailer, and stopping tapping when the horse was trying. Again, all by the person just sitting and relaxing in the chair!

He really felt the horses fear and happiness, I love the way he works with them. I always felt that all those trainers out there spanking the horse and pushing them were in the wrong, and no offense, and now I have found someone that I can relate to and learn from the correct way! thank you!
