Because of society at That time and even in today’s heavy is synonymous with ugly…Penelope is beautiful but her size is what puts her in the category of an ugly duckling. But she also needs confidence
I think the context for wallflower was she wasn’t the ‘ ideal looking type’ in that time and sort of an outcast because of that, But I 100% agree she is the most beautiful one in the show, she she is stunning!
@@brandi17ableit’s interesting because those rubenesque or titian paintings popular in the regency era (paintings made well over 100+ years before, but very much appreciated still) really highlighted how preferred it was for women of high station to be full framed. In articles written then stating what was ideal in women were descriptions of a double chin, soft and clean skin with a wind swept flush. Descriptions about dimpled thighs literally being goals surprised me. Of course, it was a class thing and just a way to showcase a marker of wealth: you got a lot of food and the poor don’t.
being too sylph gave a look of malnourishment, and to the affluent: of looking poor. (Yeesh)
It’s kind of inevitable since women were discouraged from doing any kind of harsh exercise. A little promenade, and a little horse back riding isn’t gonna give you a toned body.
Of course, I suppose being too overweight to the point of endangered health or lacking energy was never ideal.
Pen is mostly a wallflower because of her awkwardness and own fears.

I think it's actually amazing how they capture details from previous seasons. Eloise made an offhand joke about how she prefers "Emeralds over diamonds" and Queen Charlotte says the same.
The dress is everything from the sheer gloves with the hair swept sideways and the way it is sheer in the middle to compliment her the color with her red hair is Emerald Elegance at it's best!!!❤

as someone who is plus sized and struggles with finding love, it’s amazing to see that characters like us are getting our time to shine and a chance at finding love!

She lost weight in the books. They changed it to appeal to the sad lonely people who believe that being fat is an unchangeable trait when for 99% of fat people, it's not.

I've been with my husband for 18 years, and now he's 47, he finally thickened up and I love looking at, touching, and snuggling his dad bod.

It's so sad that I want Pen to gain her mother's approval for once, but I'm also worried she's getting her hopes up only to be heartbroken again. We've seen last season that Mrs. Featherington truly loves her children, so I wish she'd do right by Pen for once.
Especially sad when it seems like she only said it when Pen finally has a potential suitor in Lord Debling:... She always had a wonderful daughter who deserved praise regardless...
Penelope is easily one of the prettier girls on the show. The only problem is that she's always dressed to look more awkward, which I'm sure is intentional. You can tell that they definitely are giving her that main character look now.
it was half based on the books and how her mom literally only thought citrus colors were pretty (pen being yellow) and how they kind of dress down every other character in order to keep attention on the bridgertons and their love interests each season
Definitely! You see it being done with all of the characters, male or female. In penelope’s case the colour scheme is somewhat accurate to the books because her mother used to dress her in the most unflattering colours

@somelikeitposh I know right, something about the head tilt and Benedicts giggle just had me. I am a fan of Benedict. His character has been the same throughout the series, but I noticed he has been moving slowly out of society's view, and whatever is expected. I am hoping we see more hints for his future, hopefully a glimpse of Sophie. I still wonder if she's not the stepdaughter of Lady Cowper, I noticed in the series her name is Araminta, I believe, and she is the description of Sophie's stepmother in Benedict's book. As for Anthony, he was just annoying in season one. Season 2, he became a little more likable, so season three, you know you are going to love him.

Actually if you noticed at the beginning of the trailer the candle next to Penelope is already light but at the end of the trailer both her and Colin have a bigger flame behind them. Showing that although she was able to contain her feelings at the beginning, by the end of the trailer both of them can no longer contain what they feel for one another.

I think the silver earrings and silver necklace we keep on seeing in those stills and with a lot of her dresses in this promo is when she starts wearing it in episode 2 or if Colin gifts it to her in episode 2 after the letter opener scene. Thus any other time she’s wearing a set of jewelry that’s different from the silver set it shows her distancing herself away from colin.

I would assume casting does testing. when you got chemistry you can tell during the readings it’s either there or it isn’t. They definitely have a good casting director not only do the couples have chemistry but the family members do too. You can’t make chemistry up. And these two got it in spades.
I believe it is “friendship” that serves as the best foundation for any kind of intense chemistry ;) IM SO EXCITED

It's a small thing, but the way that candle relit itself as the camera focused on Colin was really well-done. Subtile symbolism of the way his feelings for Pen are going to ignite within him without his notice, then blaze into a fire he can't control. It's going to take him by surprise. I can't wait to see him confused and flustered by it. 😈
