I have easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials "do it yourself" (DIY) videos to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers and zero turn mowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed whacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, zero turn mower, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.
I have the largest Small Engine Repair Video Library on RUclips and the entire internet with over 1200 videos, just GOOGLE "DONYBOY73"!
I want "DON THE SMALL ENGINE DOCTOR" on RUclips to save you time, frustration and most importantly, MONEY with my HOW-TO videos!

I think the wind knows which way your chute is aimed and adjusts accordingly. It always does for me, too.
Yup I’m snow covered myself when I’m done.
Donyboy is an absolute champ. My tecumseh snow king handled this snow yesterday fine thanks to his intake valve videos. Cheers man!
Great to hear!
Good running snowblower. It really does the job. But I wouldn't expect anything less on this channel. Merry Christmas to all.
this reminds me of how much more i enjoy sitting in a warm truck with my western plow instead of wrangling snowblowers and freezing my face off...i also prefer Ariens snowblowers ..they seem to blow so much better than most
After all the years watching this is the first I've seen of you working. And not fixing. Nice to see you really know how to use the machine. Great video..
A true Canadian vid to kick off the Xmas holiday.
I like how you blasted the discharge over the car.
Thanks Dony.
Take that, and that neighbor's driveways! Different and cool. Thanks Donny.
I always like the nice clean cut of a snowblower but so much faster and warmer with a plow
Wow I'm from the deep south, we get snow but never anything like this. Where are all the global warming people when the weather gets like this? Glad your in good spirits hope you are able to stay warm and fulfill your needs. Appreciate your instructional videos they have helped me more than once, thank you!
The best part of this is seeing which brand it was
I could only pray we get snow like this! Great to see another Pro use Ariens! Merry Christmas to Cindy and You!
I remember those days when I use to live in colder climates. Good work there
That machine is working great 👍
Where do you live now then?
I am guessing that was the storm of December 24 through 26 that really pummeled the area. We got about 30 inches here in Bracebridge in those 3 days. Good machine you have there. Good work.
It's Santa Claus...himself, clearing the runway for Rudolf 🦌🎄🎁🎇
Angle the top of your chute down a bit. You’ll get a little less blow back. Other wise, you’re just throwing it into the air for the wind to catch. 😊
Nice job Donyboy, your machine is working perfectly as expected. I'm in the Buffalo NY metropolitan area and it's been snowing with extremely high winds since Friday morning. It's going to continue through early Sunday morning. There is a driving ban that's been in effect since Friday, I'm waiting for the blizzard to stop so I can get everything cleaned up but it's a waste of time going out there now as the wind is blowing the snow everywhere. Thanks for the video.
Snowblowers are the way to go for a lot of people, plows and plow truck works to but you need a lot more space for snow storage to pack yourself in . I really like these ariens, it’s a really solid machine.
Don, the one thing a share with my customers, family and friends is to spray the entire intake, impeller and chute with WD40 or even PAM cooking spray before going out. The build up is less and makes the machine work way more efficiently. I buy WD40 by the gallon and have used it for years. The other benefit is the anti corrosion to the machine. Food for thought! Great video again. Have a Merry Christmas 🎄 and a Happy-Healthy New Year my friend!
Would silicone spray work?
@@tazwowe Absolutely… I have even used PAM cooking spray. You will be amazed on how well it works to keep the snow from sticking to the metal parts.
yes I agree, I recommend that to my customers
Great idea, I been doing the same thing with WD40 since I got the snow blower, now it's 10 years old and it looks like new, no rust and works perfectly.
@@boblee6093 I just upgraded my big machine, my Toro that I just sold and it was almost 12 years old and looked almost as good as the day I bought it new. The guy that bought it couldn’t believe how old it was. I gave him the same advice. My smaller Honda from 1996 is pretty much the same.
Here is a comment from a newbie who has learned so much from you Donyboy. Was rolling along with my 2y old Honda 928, which, thanks to the knowledge I gleaned from your channel has been impeccably maintained. All of a sudden everything stops. I knew gas was low so I’ll try that … no luck … flooded? No … on RUclips there are a million complicated explanations. Then I remember you discussing this in one of videos - yep, blocked augur …. And thankfully the pins were intact. I am certainly no pro, but I know a hell of a lot more than I ever did about small engines thx to you … and I’m still learning.
Happy Holidays Donyboy and thx for all your insight
Hi good snow blower I have one Ariens 30 inch with 414 cc 2019 very good ty Ron
I can't believe I just watched a video of someone blowing snow! Now out to live the dream. Merry Christmas.
Hey Donyboy thanks sharing !
I've learnt so much from your videos over the years. My almost 40 year old Toro 824 runs like a charm. Keep up the good work and happy holidays! Cheers bud !!!
Right on
Can't beat an Ariens
King of Snow Ariens! St. Paul Minnesota.
Nice job, but what Don isn't telling us, is seeing he's in Canada, that's an hours worth of snow, and the video was taken in July.... Jk, wow that's a lot of snow.
I bought a used steel framed simplicity cab for $25.00 and retrofitted it to my old husqvarna its kinda nice not looking like a frosted doughnut when your done snow blowing 😊
Neighbor: Honey, look out the window, the weather turned for the worst, it's a blizzard !
Dony:
Now, that was fun. It was for me anyway.
Nice that your Ariens still has a throttle you can adjust. Mine is wide open all the time which I don’t care for, but I guess that’s how they make them now.
Is that a high output 24-inch model? You are very expert adjusting the chute and deflector. Ariens machines do well even with sloppy snow underneath. Thank you for all of your really useful videos. Have a Merry and a Happy!
28" with Tecumseh flat head engine
@@donyboy73 like mine ,, waiting for the wind to stop in xenia oh...9 deg now was -10
Cuts through that snow like “buttah”. 😊 I thought your machine was the 8526, my bad. Waiting impatiently for the first snowstorm here in Massachusetts.
Don, i was doing the same this morning in rural sw Ontario ,we were lucky half the amount you have. Ran my Ariens 24 Deluxe over 4 driveways, almost froze to death. Keep up with the great videos, i have learned so much. Merry Christmas Don and all the best to your family.
Fantastic Job! That Ariens snowblower can really move some snow.
My snow blower was running great then it stopped and runs 2 seconds and stops. Probably carburetor. Really needed it to run today.
I noticed that your truck and trailer apart just enough to squeeze through. Leaf blower works great for snow on cars. No touch on paint. Merry Christmas.
i always enjoyed using a snow blower....it was fun, as long as it wasn't below zero and the wind wasn't blowing bad.
Hi Donyboy do you have a snow blower impeller kit on this blower????? what machine are you using?????? This is one awesome snow blower.......love your videos...
no impeller kit, it's an Ariens
Always wondered how those things work. Now I know. And happy I don’t need one too!
Looks a lot like Wisconsin snow,
good thing you have a short driveway.
That looks like a nice bit of snow for Christmas...we had a lot of rain and wind here in NB yesterday and last night.
Perhaps you should send this video to Chickanic so she can see what those things do...lol.
Yes, I saw that video too. LOL.
Yup been there, done that. I live along lake erie south of Buffalo. (chautauqua ridge) No stranger to that white stuff. And Lots of it. We had a winter about 6 years ago, in which we had 8 inches of snow every night for all of Jan. We had over 300" of snow that year. Brutal!
Well at least you have a white Christmas. Merry Christmas to all lots of joy, happiness and health.
Now that's some serious snow!!! We got snow here in PA but nowhere near that amount yet. We got like 7 inches so far and brutal cold. Thanks for the video Donyboy73, Merry Christmas friend
Ariens are built like tanks :)
The machine is maintained by a master, or so it sounds and looks. I have an ancient Brentwood that keeps a putting along, with lots of TLC. Love your channel, and Merry Christmas to you and all.
Merry Christmas from the UK. Thinking of you all during the current storm you are suffering. 10deg C here today.
I have never seen a small engine that starts with ac voltage. Nice machine I would probably have one like that if it snowed more that 2" every 10 years.
Job well done, didn’t get a lot of snow here in Arnprior, Ontario more rain, but still had to get the blower out.
Wishing you and family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, CHEERS!!
Very nice running blower !!! I had to get my new toro 18” out today. Nothing beats snow blowing vs shoveling.
Lol had my share of shoveling after the big snow fall here in 2015 I bought my first snow blower. Best decision in 60+ years. Only thing I noticed is ….. is that an aftermarket led bar light ?
yes it's an aftermarket light
I am going to remember to play this video next July when it is 105 in the shade.
yes!
Few tips. You cut the snow from the middle of the driveway and then blow down the driveway on one side, and from the street you blow on the opposite side, so you avoid blowing over the cleared area. You blow always over the uncleaned snow - inside out. Also, you blow as much snow as you can from the house down the driveway or sideways first, then you blow it with the discharge chute on 11h or 13h from the driveway (inside out over uncleaned snow- then you can do chute on 11h ans 13 h; or you do 7h or 17h going towards garage) - so you push as much snow from the house as possible. When snow melts - better.
I don't how to say this nicely Don so I'll just say it. That snowplow diver was at the end of the street just waiting til you had the driveway just about done. Personally, I find great gratification in throwing the shovel at him as he drive by. LOL! Merry Christmas Don.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Don!
Merry Christmas
Not to worry.
The weather will get much better.
In about 4 months.
🇨🇦
Great Blower and job , I only believe in you Brother.
Hey, that's my snowblower.....i see a few mods that mine doesn't have (switch on left side of panel....switch for bar light? and cage over muffler)...I have had mine since 2004 and still kicks butt in Central NY snow belt
Asfalt is Great, gravel driveway is not good for snowblower
Crikey! A Canadian in his natural habitat! Zero surprise Don uses a nice Ariens.
I'm glad I live down south.
Happy New Year!🎉😂❤
That's what we do in SC in the summertime. Get the mower and rearrange the dust.
You have the snow and the cold and we have just the cold in Illinois. Arlens snowblower makes short work out of that snow!!!!
works great, you must know a good small engine mechanic to keep it runing top perfect lol
I just Watched this whole Video ,, lol ,,, You the Man Donyboy73 ...
I can’t believe I’m sitting here watching someone blow snow!
Need a cab attachment the wind is stupid.
No, rather the wind is smart.
It knows which way you've just turned the chute and changes it's direction to hit you in the face with blowback again. You're not getting outta there unscathed now. Whatcha expect? 😄
Why am I watching you blow snow...when I have to do it myself tomorrow morning, with the snowblower I fixed myself thanks to you. I have to say, at half this speed though
Have fun!
just shows a smaller snowblower can get it done don't need a huge 2 stage big engine snowblower
3 to 4 inches were predicted for where I live. It's been very cold and windy, but nowhere near the snowfall that was predicted, but I am happy with that. It should go into the 50's with rain next week, so I won't even bother with it. I'll just drive over it.
Still getting hit hard here in Fort Erie. Hopefully tomorrow can do some cleanup!
Dony, Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas!!!!!
Nice. It looks like a solid and not-so-new model Ariens, with a vintage Tecumseh Snow King flathead engine, handling things just fine. Merry Christmas and thanks for the informative videos.
approximately a 15 year old machine, better than the new ones!
@@donyboy73 that's for sure
Lots of fun! 😊
Hey!! I was out snowblowing too when this video posted today..im sure glad i have a large 2 stage 11 hp 30 inch cut blower..im in Minneapolis Minnesota..thanks for the video and have a Merry Christmas sir!! 🎅 🎄
In Ramara. we still have 75 mph winds...heavy snow fall of 50cm tomorrow ....ya who!!
Merry Christmas to all.
MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and your family Sir.
Looks like an Ariens nation snowblower!!
Merry Christmas awesome video thanks for the info fixed the issue 8hp tecumseh engine on old toro power clear blows snow like crazy for an old machine! What cut and engine size Ariens? Christopher Kasko loyal fan Ottawa Ontario
It's nice to see a video from you that's outside the shop 👍
Merry Christmas from iowa
Same to you!
How many horse power? Seams quite strong.
Real nice snow blower!
Merry Christmas to you and your family
Glad it didn't happen, but the trailer hitch engagement would've been excellent
video on changing a shear pin under real world conditions.
Your blower works better then my ariens pro 32 rapidtrack
Great old Ariens blower, clean to the asfalt, Marry Christmas Don
Here we have -8C and not a snowflake in sight , merry Christmas from sweden 🎅🎅🇸🇪🇸🇪
Merry Christmas 🎄
is anyone thinking why am I sitting here watching snowblower vids I have way to much time on my hands
Ugh more snow ❄️
DAMN, this looks like a serious snow storm. I'm glad that I don't live in Canada or Buffalo New York. I can't deal with all this snow. 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶😱😱😱😱🤷🏿♂️🤦🏾♂️
what model blower is that? how does it compare to the hondas and yamahas?
I'm almost jealous, we didn't get a lot of snow in Montreal but the winds were fierce. Finished my shift at 5am and only had to do some light shoveling to clear the driveway 😐
Nice work 👍
🎅🏽🎄🧑🏾🎄 Happy Holidays🎁 from Harrisburg Pennsylvania 🇺🇸
My neighbor! Lol Merry Christmas to you from York Pa 💯🧑🎄🌲
@@paulcondie2520 ☃️❄️☃️ Merry Christmas 🎄🎁🎄 wishing you and your family a great Holidays 🎅🏽🎄🧑🏾🎄
Hi Donny,
On that particular model Ariens blower it sure would be nice if you could adjust the chute flapper a bit more down.seems that it doesnt go far enough for my needs.I have houses that are close to my drive.
Thinking about a spacer on the cable connection.
Any ideas please.
Thanks for all you do for us.
our lucky Don i still can't blow snow with the blizzard at my house, hopefully Christmas day. Merry Christmas and keep up the Great work
What, no reverse on your personal snow blower? :) Have you done/tried any of the paddle improvements shown on youtube? Thanks for reminding me why I put up with ridiculous government/laws/politicians and super high prices here in CA/San Diego. Sunny, 76° (24.4 C) today.
You should have tried to walk down the sidewalks today with all the snow🤯
