A 'banner' is like a flag - a pole or totem displaying a cloth with an emblem of the house/king/etc. 'Bannermen' are lesser houses whom have sworn fealty (to serve) a greater house or king and will display their 'lord's banner' alongside their own banner.
He let the boy go with wrong information - Robb Stark doesn't have 20,000 men but that's the information being returned to his enemy. It was a strategic decision.
If Baristan had decided to attack Joffrey, the Hound is honestly the only one in that room who would have ANY chance of stopping him. Those Kingsguard would have gotten hacked to pieces. You'd need someone like Jamie there to have a real chance. Barristan, even at his age, is arguably the best fighter in Westeros.
He could cut through the five of them like carving a cake!
In terms of realism, this is complete nonsense. They all have armor, and this is a trained warrior. Even against 2, he would not have a chance, even if you are the champion of the universe

- Robb is bad at communication, he decides alone and don't share his plans with his closest lieutenants.
- Jon is worse : no communication.

Jean 2 the good was a strong chevalier, but he was stupid.
His son, Charles the 5, refused any large engagement, and used skirmishes to reduce the english armies. It said he won the war by never leaving his library (his general, the cunning Du Guesclin, made the job for him).
Louis 11 was also a wise king. His nickmane was "the spider" (it should remain you somebody), he spread a network of spies across the kingdom, finish to kick english asses and beat the bourgogne largegy with venaison, corruption, and daggers in the back.

Every time I watch your videos I can't help thinking that you are two most beautifully dressed reactors I know.
A banner is like a cloth flag with an emblem (sigil) that represents a house. Every house has its own banner and fighters sworn to protect that house. Lesser houses usually swear fealty to larger houses for alliance protection. Robb Stark called for all the banners of the North. They are all grouping up to form their Stark army.
Barristan Selmy in his prime was one of the two greatest swordsmen in all of Westeros. Even as an old man, he is not boasting when he says "Even now I could cut through the five of you like carving a cake!"

You remember the scene just a few episodes ago where he describes himself as one of two players in the game of thrones who was plotting to overthrow Robert? It wasn't Daenerys he was replacing Robert with as he had just sent assassins to kill her. The man that uses mute children as spies. Who likely cuts out their tongues. The retcons of the later seasons are dumb and full of contradictions. This happened because they cut out huge portions of the books.

Calling the banners is the same as declaring war. It's not something you can just take back without consequences; you're fielding an army. So he called every northern lord of a house to arms to fight for Ned freedom.
Also dont mistake sansa loyalty to the lannisters as genuine. At this point shes doing everything she can to save her father. Including kissing up to them.

Green is a description of novice, the are calling him the "Greenboy" because he is new at war.
"The green boy" is Robb Stark. He is named in honor of Robert Baratheon, Ned's best friend.
Varys serves the realm...the people of the land. He knows all the ins and outs, comings and goings, and advises the King so that the realm can survive in peace.😊
I thought it was a reference to the fact that this is Robb's first war, meaning he's green (a rookie).

You are going to hear the word Eunuch a lot in this show. It means a man who has had his balls cutt off, usually as a child, so that he would not father children. There were lots of ancient cultures that did this with some boys who were raised to be royal advisors.
Yeah. China for example. Some royal eunuchs made great things or disasters.
@@HenriOtomo It struck me that culturally they probably understand what a eunuch is, and what their role is in ancient societies, even though I don't know if Vietnam had eunuchs the same way China did. However, I am certain they didn't know the English word for Eunuch.

28:25 The "My lord" thing is just because he's a noblemen, it doesn't mean that he's serving him. It wouldn't be uncommon for a King to refer to a captured rebellious vassal by calling him "My Lord". It doesn't actually imply submission, it's just the proper way of referring to them.
"Call the Banners" means summon the lords who swear fealty to House Stark and their armies. It's a call to arms.
As for Sansa's "stupidity," she's a teenage girl who knows her place in life and aspires only to be what most girls of her position want; to be a lady of the court and, if lucky, a future Queen-Consort. Think of it in terms of middle/high school dynamics; some girls would do anything to fit in or be popular.
On of Cersei's biggest mistakes - relieving Ser Barristan Selmy of his duties as Lord Commander.

I never noticed that the transition from Sansa with the Hound (5:36) to the next scene was exactly like Syrio and Ser Meryn Trant's (5:07). Both shots focus on the character we're interested in but then an imposing figure overtakes them in the foreground. Nice little touch there.

something to remember about fighting in A Game of Thrones.. Being without armor isn't bad.. It just means a skilled fighter is faster.
Armor literally makes you a tank on a battlefield. Historically and here too. Only bullets from firearms made it redundant.. till kevlar was invented. The less armor is good philosophy is a video game trope that has no roots in reality.

From the antiquity of the greek hoplites, the roman legionaires and to medieval european knights or even samurai, armor is a massive arms race for a millenia. Your assassins creed assumptions of their functionality is getting embaressing, educate yourself.
