Yeaaah it grew on me.
You should listen to Moonlightspeed by midnight grand orchestra they released it as a single
Ahahaha omg it grew on you hahaah
so hard to pull back from commenting before i finish watching the whole thing, but this SOS chorus is insane: she sings it organically with the vowels swinging into lower notes at the beginning and then stabilizing into the same note the longer it goes! and it's S-O-S wo S-O-S wo S-O-S wo... the moment it clicked for me was my canon hoshiyomi moment
also: i got both MGO albums at the same time and threw them together in a playlist to listen back to back, at midnight... not knowing what the lyrics meant at all, until i looked them up the next night and ended up in tears, definitely life changing
Suisei said once in a Clip where SOS is hard to sing Live, the neverending S-O-S and tounge twisting lyrics is super hard
but she just did a Overture adverd and sings SOS and other songs live though
And dance while also singing it LIVE.
"if you stuck around for this long..."
I actually enjoy your music theory breakdowns, I do learn a lot and it makes me appreciate music more than I already do :D
ALSO in one of TakuSui's interviews, taku did admit that he was trying to go for a storytelling kind of album
ALSOOOO you're the only person that I know who actually does musical breakdown of this album :D
Ayee it makes me happy people can learn from these! Also glad to know Inotac did have some kind of plan, because otherwise it would be the craziest coincidence ever
@@ravenclawreacts I HAVE BEEN NOTICED yeah!! I used to take music in highschool so my theory is on the beginner/intermediate level, I knew about the circle of 5ths but not all of those details :D
@@ravenclawreacts Personally I do not know any music theory, but the fact that there is so much for you to break down within this music usually just makes me appreciate the artist even more. Its fascinating how much there is to learn about music, and even though none of this will stick in my memory its very nice to have the context while Im watching. Keep up the good work.
@@ravenclawreacts yeah we definitely stick around until the end, and we learn a lot, makes me personally contemplating getting a music theory degree of sorts, ive always loved music
By the way, 4444444492999 at the end of the SOS MV was actually code for "Highway", as per a cellphone's number/letter pad!
44(H) 444(i) 4(g) 44(h) 9(w) 2(a) 99(y) = Highway
It was to tease the name of the next song
No way that's so fricking cool
About Highway being sounding like it's from the early to late 2000's... The track itself was composed by his highschool self, So it's kind of fitting that it sounds like it belong to that era lol
It makes so much sense now lol
the numbers at the end of the SOS MV spell out Highway in the T9 input method for our old Nokia phones~
"Oh, I just wonder if they randomly picked some orchestral-sounding words, and just stuck them in there"
wow, less than 10 minutes in, and you're already caught suisei red-handed there lmao
yea suisei admitted on a radio interview, when she wrote the lyrics she actually just googled "cool music words" and allegro was one of the result
and then it ended up being implemented there multiple times, including the gun's name
Also, since you said the album would've had more staying power if they utilize more of suisei's rawness and power, good news for you, the midnight grand orchestra live kinda did that lol
the full live is paid, so if you don't mind you can still watch it on spwn until september 9th
This is Suisei "I don't know which language Je T'aime is from but it sounded cool so I named a song that" Hoshimachi after all.
@@suiseivirus1613 I hadn't heard of that before but I totally believe that, sounds very much in character for her.
@@gokbay3057 To be precise, she asked "what language is je t'aime? Is it french?" on her album release stream
Literally on point. I don’t know how you do it raven
lol this just sound more like Japanese mindset of decorative english.
babe wake up, its Ravenclaw analysis of suisei album again
About "SOS", I've heard people casting doubt about InoTaku's tendency to use the vocal part of his songs as just an instrument and that Suisei won't get to shine as much. So I totally understand your point (and love that suggestion btw, sounds fantastic!), but in my own humble opinion, letting such a talented composer like InoTaku showcase his skill, as well as being not so dependent on the vocal is totally fine, let alone such a good composition. Also considering this his strength at using EDM, it's really common to use vocal as an instrument in that genre.
And honestly, while I find the vocal part of the chorus a bit repetitive as you've pointed out, I'm still amazed at the sheer power Suisei can put out with just her voice singing only one note. Like a semi-auto sniper rifle firing rapidly by a skilled user lol (check the MV!)
Kinda like with Fauna's song, since it's bossa nova, the voclas are another part of the instrumental
I just found this ep recently and I fell in love with the composition and production of the songs then adding suisei's voice is just something else...
I'm always watching from Japan. I know you're busy, but I'm waiting for the English captions for Eupho ep11! (used a translation)
About the the song Highway, Inotaku once tweeted that he actually wrote this song when he was still a high schooler, so maybe this is the reason that made you feel some 2000s vibes in it imo
I've been waiting for your Overture reaction since the Still Still Stellar one got posted!
As a hoshiyomi who has no knowledge of music at all, I really appreciate your analysis😆😆
Hope we can get more of this in the future!
Thanks for your hard work making this video!
Nice analysis. Suisei said the chorus of SOS was just repeating the title words, but she had to add "SOS OH SOS OH SOS" in order to follow the beat without stumbling. Glad you were honest about the EP, even if I don't ultimately agree. Yes, indeed, Inoue can be very formulaic. Even Stella Stellar follows the same construction ; Voice intro - beat - chorus - breakdown - chorus with modulations. He made it clear while working with Calli on "Yona Yona Journey", repeating the formula. What is funny, since "Allegro" was my least favorite track exactly by sounding so much like Stellar Stellar. But again, being repetitive is also the nature of electronic music, even more so in EDM. When compared side by side, Grand Midnight Orchestra's first EP was actually more daring than mostly big name EDM DJs . Glad this duo is working together, even if with a few missteps. It's hard to get a 10/10 on the first album. If anything, at least they gave us 10/10 singles. Excited to see where this partnership may take us in the future.
In Never Ending Midnights, さぁ saa would mean something like come on, or lets go.
Thanks mate!
SOS oh SOS oh SOS more like
Let's go let's go let's go let's go
Midnight Grand Orchestra is going to be releasing a 2nd Mini Album "Starpeggio" on December 13, 2023
As someone who doesn't know a lot about music, I always learn a lot when I watch your vids. You're amazing at explaining why something does or doesn't work for you without going over people's heads. And as a Holo fan, I love that you've fallen deep enough into Suisei fandom that you're ordering her concert Blu-Rays, lol.
Also this is my second comet.
I had this thought for a while now for the music videos, in SOS, there were people asking for Sui's help. Towards the end of the song, there was someone who was shooting back a red projectile/comet thingy. So that spurred her and Taku to rush to the highway.
Highway MV showed them rushing to help those people who were in those ships (which I think we're evacuation vessels) and the comets that they saw towards the end were actually other evacuation vessels that were burning and crashing because they were too late to help. :(
I’ve been listening to this EP on fackin repeat, really enjoying watching this as you are very good at verbalizing everything I like about it. Now off to finish the rest of it the video!
As a huge fan of Suisei's voice, indeed I agree that I'd also prefer her to have more.... contribution? to the songs rather than just a "voice" to be used on the tracks. Kinda like 3:12 where it's technically InoTac's song ft. Suisei, but I feel Suisei's strengths is much better utilized there. And that said, InoTac's sound signature (formula?) is definitely recognizable on his previous works as well, so it would be... interesting how MGO would move forward, just like you said. (edit: by contribution here I meant on the vocals - I knew she write the lyrics to some of these songs)
I definitely prefer Still Still Stellar more than Overture, but that's not saying that Overture is bad - I'd still much prefer the songs here compared to other songs made by/for the other hololive members, for example (though that might just be my bias). I guess I just hoped for more considering how I really love their previous works together (3:12 and then Stellar Stellar). I also seem to see the songs of the album have pretty split opinions even among the hoshiyomis.
Fantastic analysis once again and hopefully we could see you more analyzing more stuff like this! Probably you could do something similar with your King analysis, but this time with Phony since quite a few hololive members (Suisei included) have covered that song as well. Might even throw in Vtubers from the other companies too if you're up to it!
Edit: To add - my favorite tracks on this album would be Rat a Tat, Allegro, and Highway. If I have to explain, I'd much prefer the homogenous/less chaotic side of things, though somehow I prefer Highway more than Ryuuseigun...
I love suiseis voice but I think that it not being front an center every track is on purpose, and why this was released under a group name rather than ino & suisei. Think of her voice more or less as an instrument within a song/composition, she’s an important piece to the whole. Maynard James Keenan of tool is one of my favorite vocalists, and he’s gone on record saying something along these lines when asked why his voice is often in the background of several songs
I appreciate the sonata-bet.
It paved a path for me to see what music theory nerdom look like.
with the recent MGO concert over, i really enjoy this analysis even more! i already watch this, but i need the 2nd time! cheers raven!
ngl I had the dumbest smile on my face during your reaction to Tuning
I had the same pleasant surprise from the vibey, repetitive, nature of Rat A Tat to the Interlude during my first listen, haha. Also great insight on the final track, Highway! I too found the structure to be "too generic" for my liking but I couldn't pinpoint the reason why. So thank you for pulling out the 2009-vibe comparison www
That being said, I 100% agree that keeping an open-mind about this album is a must if you have preconceived notions/expectations from the way Stellar Stellar or 3:12 was made. iirc, there was a point where you mentioned in your previous review (of either Stellar Stellar or 3:12) that Suisei was "cockblocking" some of the compositional work of Inotac but still worked seamlessly well as Suisei was the head/center of those pieces. It's somewhat of the opposite with Overture, right?
Anyways it's a joy watching these album reviews as you descend further into the vtuber-rabbit-hole. I should give the anime, Sound! Euphonium, a watch before this year ends so I can consume more rc content.
...and thank you for shouting out the hsh server. more than a handful of us love your videos!
heey fellow Tuning connoisseur. Well done for making it through another music rant haha.
Your point re: Overture being almost the opposite of SS/3:12 - super interesting, and definitely agree with you there. As to which approach is 'better' - it's all in the eye (ear) of the beholder.
Ohh and def watch Sound! Euphonium! I'm making my way slowly and painfully through it, but regardless of pace well worth a watch on your own also :)
I'm loving all your reaction and analysis videos! I remember watching the King and Still Still Stellar ones so long ago.
I wonder if you'll analyse Suisei's Specter or MGO's Starpeggio albums (and react if you haven't heard them already)? I'd love to see what you have to say about them, and I personally enjoy both more than their predecessors.
Ok just got to the last track, I think highway is definitely intended to evoke a sense of nostalgia, why I think my brain automatically connected the beginning part to Smashing Pumpkins - 1979, I had never given Taylor swift a legitimate listen until her 1989 album. Ironically seeing the parallels in this comment as I type it
It goes even further than nostalgia, he wrote highway in highschool. It's akin to comet for Suisei to show how he grew as a composer.
@@友-16 well without knowing that or the meaning of the words the music did wonders conveying his feelings
Good thing I had inkling to check back on this channel. Another two good hours of Grade A analysis from a Hoshiyomi.
I was SO waiting for this!!
SAME
I am waiting for this, thank you
I always look forward to your music reaction/analysis videos
It is interesting to see your reaction and analysis~
has been waiting for this !
I love listening to you talk. Its great! You always make it super chill and relaxing listening to you
aww yis i was waiting for this one
I've been waiting for this
les goooooooooooooo been waiting for this since it came out thank you for the delivery
finally got to watch it fully. i gotta tell you, before you went on about the music conspiracy theory to guess the key i went to check which key allegro was on beforehand, and i audibly let out a gasp when you said "sooo i'm guessing E major". that was genuinely impressive (and also super educational, i learned a lot) so hope the universe gives you your 5 bucks.
it's funny how much you liked NEM. from the crossfade teaser it sounded amazing to me but the full track was not what i was expecting from it, so i didn't care much for NEM initially but it eventually grew on me (even more so after the concert), so it's interesting to see how hard it hits someone who listens to it completely blind (and also made me appreciate it more). also i probably didn't hate highway NEARLY as much as you did but it's actually a fantastic song to leave on loop in the background and vibe to.
allegro, rat a tat and ryuuseigun still by far my favorites though.
also the nerdy music theory details are a big part of why i look forward to these so much so please don't stop doing them. i would've never known about inotac's (likely) deliberate classical touch on the first half of the album and why it works so well and it's made me appreciate it even more, so big thanks to you
Your critiques of albums and songs like these are really invaluable, and when you note that something could be better, it just makes the times where we can openly praise a beautiful work more meaningful. Thanks for taking two hours of your time to do this!
thanks for another great album analysis! it always amazes me how much of a "storyline" you can infer/predict just from music theory, like the prediction of allegro's key totally blew my mind, and i had never even considered how all the songs might be connected(in the context of an allegro) even though ive listened to the album hundreds of times. as both a hoshiyomi and someone who just loves good music, again thx for the review o7
Personally I found the chorus of SOS way more enjoyable than the crazy melodic modulations that came before it. I feel like the melody sounded overbearing until Suisei's "SOSOSOS..." repetition. Her voice tied everything together and organized the chaos, and the unified chaos then channeled this really powerful energy into her voice. Any variation on the lyrics or rhythm or note wouldn't be able to achieve this feeling. It resolved the tension and converted it into hype.
That being said I know absolutely nothing about music or how it's composed so the best way I can describe it visually is "unstable lights being converted to a singular strong beam".
Valid! "unstable lights being converted to a singular strong beam" is actually a fantastic way to describe what happens when Sui kicks in with the SOSOSOSOS. She has the stamina and power to keep up those long phrases - anyone less and it would've fallen apart. Definitely grew on me. Really appreciate this insight!
First of all, congrets on reaching 6k!!!
In this vid I do agrees with most of what you say and thinks that this is a great analysis overall. (but I still bob to Rat A Tat and Highway though)
having heard that you started to get the style of Taku Inoue and not surprise that much, I would recommend you checking out Wicked (another song she does with calli and composed by the legendary Giga) and Template which is a Sui-rock (I didn't know I need it in my life, until I heard the song) I think they both are REALLY bangers of a song.
So, getting another analytical video of songs I like and knowing how you think about them would be great!😊
Ps. Template has MV too!! and it's really great, definitely a must watch.
Ps... Sorry for my Grammars if it annoys some of you guys.😂
After watching the concert, I almost wish that I could listen to some of those versions of a few songs. I don't have any problems with the originals, I just like how much more of the strings you could hear from their performance
Edit: So happy you reacted to Tuning the same way I did. It's still a contender as my favorite track. Every time I hear it, I wish it was longer
i dont know much about music so your ability to call things like Highway being composed in the 2000's or Sora being classically trained is amazing to me.
Now that i watched both MV's back to back during this video, I just realized that Suichan shot down stuff in space during S.O.S., and we see the aftermath during Highway's MV. Truly a Suicopath. XD
There is a song called Planetarium in ablum Holo*27, that's a beautiful slow song sung by Suisei.
You can do a reaction for this song if you get time, it's like A cappella song but I can't sure.
I would love to know what you though of Suichan’s MGO concert! I really loved the dancing during Rat a Tat and the vocals during 3:12 omg
Hello, finally finished watching this video and i really like your video
Although i don't fully understand some part since I'm not well versed on music but i enjoyed your review and opinions of MGO
Hopefully you will make another video about her song more especially Specter and Starpeggio, i really want to hear the analysis from you again
I love the album so god damn much
Starpeggio reaction when
While InoTaku was the composer for these songs, and also wrote some of the lyrics, but Suisei is also behind much of the lyrics (an example she gave in a radio interview was SOS iirc. Where lyrics he wrote was basically just the "SOSOSOS" part and she wrote the rest).
Edit: 39:24 since you asked what we thought about it, I actually really enjoy SOS. I think it and Rat A Tat might be my favourite songs here even thought it is probably fair to say that they are objectively not the best songs in the album. Might be my mood/when I listen to music that influences it. High energy repetitiveness is kind of more fitting when you are also doing something else compared to some more musically interesting songs I guess.
Edit: 1:53:39 Yeah, MGO MVs are anime level rather than regular MV level. The concert itself (of which I only saw the free part) also looked amazing.
1:55:21 I think those are supposed to be dango?
I think those comets/meteors in the Highway MV might be the spaceships falling?
"How much budget went to those MVs"
Dunno, but the concert stage was expensive enough that both InoTaku and Suisei were suprised by it.
Oh man you REALLY need to react to her live concert "Selfish of a Rough Stone". You would be blown away.
she's seen it.
she's bought the BD even
at the end of the highway mv, i figured that the falling comets are actually the meteorites of the demolished pieces of the flying ships that we saw right before. i like to believe that this ties into the message of the song that things/people/places will disappear from our lives outside of our discretion and control (like letting go).
i hope im wrong with that interpretation cuz watching the end of the mv is pretty damn sad if true.
I have a friend who’s really into music theory so hearing music nerds ramble is always fun lol. Understanding how music is made has only made it better cause now I can pick up on things I would’ve never noticed.
Interested to hear your thoughts on the live! I was so overwhelmed. Also pls someone tell me where this Hoshiyomi server is. I wanna get added
i am just a random stranger but after i watch the whole analysis you made, i feel this album is innotaku’s story features with suisei’s voices. he use the whole album to shows how he improve his skills, starting from the nem, sos, allegro to shows his knowledge now and end with the musician starting point, highway.
So funny she mentions the traveling back in time on Highway, since Taku did say in an interview that he wrote that song around rhat time when he was younger and starting to write songs, he tried to do a different arrangement with more modern structures I guess, but people that listened to both told him to just use the original because it was better with more feeling
Reckon all the lyrics and theme for this was influenced by Suisei training for the Vsaikyou APEX tournament that she was training for at the time.
starpeggio analysis when. i think it's a more solid album than overture and i'd like to see your thoughts on it
Have you listened to Suisei’s Template yet?
There's a fantastic clip you should check out: Suisei Creates a Parody of the [3:12] Song With the Others Musician Titled [7:22]
Suisei and Inotaku were on an NHK music show with Hyadain (he sang the Nichijou OPs) and Okazaki Taiiku.
Also, one video I think would be fun is checking out the original songs of each Holo EN Council member! The music videos all have English CC
Edit: Council just released a full group original song, on the Hololive English channel!
What do think abt the mgo concert now that you've watched it?
Suisei has a new album coming out soon, as I'm sure you know, but in the interim, could you do a video MGO's Moonlight speed? Releases as a single a few months back and has some great Suisei vocals.
Just stated the video, what did you think of the MGO live? How did Sui's performance and the songs compare to the album versions? Edit: MGO also released a new single a few days ago, any plans on doing a short video on that? Your analysis videos are always very interesting EDIT 2: Finally finished, great video again, seriously interesting insight into the song's compositions, and understanding why you didn't particularly like Highway helped me figure out why I enjoyed it. Looking forward to your next vid, if anyone has recommendations for anyone else who does music analysis like this I'd appreciate some recommendations.
Gotta add that SOS is very reminiscent of Louis Cole/Knower's music style.
Highway was written when Inotaku was a high school student, and you guessed it, the late 2000s. And because he played violin in high school, so that may caused him to put a mad violin highlight in highway, but not really matured to you standards, opinions.
Hey, have you heard of the new one piece movie's songs? They are sung by ado, a very very talented artist that kinda relates/draws a parallel with suisei's music, I recommend u react to that album it's just great

Hey I hate to be that person but I have an anime recommendation that I think you might really like. The anime is called yagate Kimi ni naru (bloom into you). It’s an amazing yuri anime, actually my first one and I just adore this show. Heads up the show only gets through half way of the story so you will probably have to read the manga to finish it. Love the reactions, can’t wait to see more fate series stuff.
Hey, why this video just have 360p? :v
youtube didnt fully render the video yet this can happen sometimes with longer videos. If you want to see it in better quality try a bit later
Can you please also react to Marine 3d birthday concert 2022🥺
After looping the standouts of Still Still Stellar through my life for the better part of a year, I'll say I'm really not feeling this album. I agree with the sentiment that Suisei was used more as an instrument than a focus, which is fair enough on its own, but I'm such a fan of Suisei's incredibly high-tension vocal flavor and tendency to run (and even hopscotch) all around the scales that these repetitive bars and notes going nowhere clash with that. Her technique in delivering them is unquestionable but what she was asked to deliver feels flat. Pop any other vocalist I didn't know in these songs and I'd be okay with chilling to them, maybe even falling asleep to them, but hearing Suisei there I find my internal monologue taking on the form of (quoting one of my favorite long-form RUclipsrs) an amphetamine-soaked circus monkey screaming "DO THE THING! DO _A_ THING! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH"
Can You react to hololive summer 3d stream
Hi Random Strangers?
Hah! You may not know US but WE know you!
Muahahaha
I can easily say Im not a fan of them together. Cause it sounds like a duet with instruments and Suisei and none of them are given a chance to be the main character. It's like fighting back to back..... I just prefer song where Suisei's voice is given full support. This kinda sounds like Inutak using Suisei as a instrument or being sample for EDM.
