This was my favourite song which we sang in my first primary school after arriving in Australia in September 1963, though I'm quite sure we never sang the words, 'the whistling gypsy' in the version we sang. Great memories, not only of youth and the adventure of embracing my new country, but also of a far better Australia, Good years.
Natalie, the song was written by Dublin born Leo Maguire in around 1952 then recorded by singer / actor Joe Lynch from Co,.Cork and others Leo was well known too as a broadcaster and presented a Saturday programme on behalf of Waltons Music on RTE radio, Leo was a gentleman of music..RIP
Love these songs. Making me fall in love with Australia & it's people.

"He's no gypsy, my father," she said. "But Lord of these lands over." I wonder who this Gypsy Rover could be?
Thanks. Good quality audio of a classic song.
The highway men’s version is better
