I come back to this video from time to time - just cant get over how killer that tone is, and how well you nailed it!! Not to mention how well you nailed Zakk's playing style! Love the history on this stuff - thanks Michael!!
Dude, I absolutely LOVE your presentation style! Keep these coming, this is the kind of stuff us hardcore guitar nerds FREAK about. Props on the playing as well, super crisp and tight technique, love it!
Amazing job! I have to admit, I had to ask myself "how the hell does this dude own so much gear?"... Then I realized you're THE Michael Nielsen, Hollywood composer extraordinaire. I really dug your work on Forza 6. Cool guitar channel. Subbed.
As people have mentioned below those interested in Zakk's tone of this era and many might not know and enjoy is his "solo band/work" called "Pride and Glory" - Some of his strongest guitar work outside of "No More Tears" and early Black Label - IMO
Wow, I was 17 when No Rest for the Wicked was released here in the UK and I was totally blown away by the tone! I've never heard anyone reproduce it...until now! Outstanding job and if I closed my eyes I couldn't tell if Zakk were playing or not! Brilliant! 💪🏼👍🏻🤟🏻🎸
Saw P&G in a small club in 94, Zakk was playing the bullseye LP into a 2203 half stack with a few pedals on the floor. It was one of the hugest guitar sounds I've ever heard. I couldn't believe that tone was coming out of such a simple, almost "budget" rig.
I've searched ALL OVER RUclips on how to get Zakk's sound, (Not that I want it for myself), just to hear what ppl are doing, and yours is THE BEST out there !!!
Thank you sir! I was one of my first videos. I WISH I did a better job documenting the sound so that I can refer back to it. I DID make Kemper profiles of the sounds that day... so at least those are still around.
I always come back to this video every couple months for a little inspiration. Damn Michael, not only do your mixes kick ass, but your playing....buhjeebus!
Dude you can shred! Awesome sound and you play those songs perfectly. I’ve always been a big fan of Zakk Wyldes(met him on the “No More Yours Tour” in Charlotte, and he and Dimebag and EVH and Randy Rhoads are my favorite guitar players!
That’s when Zakk‘s playing really inspired me... No more Tears, Pride and Glory.... awesome stuff!!! these days I can’t even listen to his playing anymore :-(
my god, Zakk's comping was so creative, without leaving any emptiness putting in fills here and there between one riff and one chord. It's what you need when you have only one guitar in the band. Great great great comping. Too bad it stopped as soon as he started with BLS, where he fell into the cheap flat beer drinking metal crap and became a shadow of his former self. Great job with the sounds and the playing!!!
My favorite times in bands has always been as the only guitarist. It always forced me to come up with harmonically interesting ideas, and with the right bassist, you can really create textured compositions, regardless of genre.
Before this video. I had only seen a few here and there. I thought Michael was just a dad with some cool gear. After watching this I realized something was up. So great you have entire career doing this. I think this is just a tiny fun part though from what I have seen. And thanks for taking time to share your experience and knowledge. Your 80s Ozzy stuff is always dead on. Especially on this video!
Damn man you not only nail the tone and inflections awesome but also the actual play style and pick texturing. I almost want to cut some vocals on those.
I don't know how but I have just discovered your Nuno vid yesterday, subbed before it was even over. You are enjoyable to watch not only in delivery and obviousely skill, but you seem genuinely authentic with no gimmicky schtick or trying to be overly clever or funny. Thank you and can't wait to see more of these....Be blessed and Merry Christmas.
Awesome dead on sound and playing fantastic job.... I always thought Zach was incredible during the shaven years too Thanks for a great video Now you got me all jazzed up and stoked for more old Ozzy stuff
Excellent - the lead work starting at 4:37 with the sunburst LP... spot on; well actually it's all spot on! but really enjoyed the lead sounds you get with the sunburst LP...always look forward to your videos! Great stuff Mr. Nielsen!
+i6Gunner Thanks i6! I've been working on that solo for roughly 26 years... I just about got it down. haha I really liked the EMG's in my Les Paul. I wish I could clone that guitar so I could have 1 with EMG's and another with Lollars.
Yeah, you nailed him dude. You’ve been playing for a while man, because you nailed his vibrato...so important. Most vids I see they never nail the vibrato right, and that’s one way to kill a song out of the gate. Great work man.
Lunga vita a te Michael. 🤟🏻🎸🎸👍🏻💯
Miracle Man lead is where I learned down down up picking. Can't believe that was probably 20 years ago. And here I thought I was still "young". I remember Zakk had a video where he shows you how to play it, and then goes "...and that's Miracle Man", and that phrase became a running joke between my other guitar player/friend and myself. To this day, when one of us plays something that impresses the other, it's "..and that's Miracle Man" TLDR I'm old
Pre-beard Zakk was his best playing and tone IMO.
No More Tears = Zakk peaking
Best singing too
Probably because he pretty much didn't use a wah pedal
I couldn't agree more.
@@ayeapprove He got too comfortable with fame after Tears and sort of let himself go. His playing also got a bit sloppy.
Best Zakk tone vid on RUclips. Period. Outstanding my friend.
This is great .Check out circle of tone Here on the tube he Just did an Ozzy tone super also all his stuff is good.
Well done sir, well done! Bravo!
Couldn't agree more! This video is almost too good to be true!
Sounds like the original, I revisit this every so often. Epic
The playing is about as close as it gets as well, which is a huge part of the tone.
holy shit, I'm shocked... that's the closest I've ever listened to Zakk's tone, you nailed every single detail of it!! AMAZING
Best Zakk vid for sure. Heavier than the guilt from my last 2 marriages
Lol..damn good one..boss!!
just started to smile while you started playing miracle man - the whole sound was just SO MUCH on point ! and your playin too
I always loved Zakks sound on those albums, thanks for this.
I was sent here thanks to Euge Valovirta's page... and he is right, Zakk's tone and rig explanation is absolutely killer! Thanks Michael!
That Zakk tone lives in that Lee Jackson preamp/power amp combo. I still have mine from the late ‘80s.
Amazing job! I have to admit, I had to ask myself "how the hell does this dude own so much gear?"... Then I realized you're THE Michael Nielsen, Hollywood composer extraordinaire. I really dug your work on Forza 6. Cool guitar channel. Subbed.
+Elliot Grey Hahaha! Thanks Elliot! I'm still trying to become the all lowercase "the" Michael Nielsen! ;)
As people have mentioned below those interested in Zakk's tone of this era and many might not know and enjoy is his "solo band/work" called "Pride and Glory" - Some of his strongest guitar work outside of "No More Tears" and early Black Label - IMO
You are now one of my favorite earthlings. Such Excellent attention to detail. So great.
Wow, I was 17 when No Rest for the Wicked was released here in the UK and I was totally blown away by the tone! I've never heard anyone reproduce it...until now! Outstanding job and if I closed my eyes I couldn't tell if Zakk were playing or not! Brilliant! 💪🏼👍🏻🤟🏻🎸
Closest I've ever heard anyone get to the golden Zakk tones! Some of my favorite tones ever, and I keep coming back to those albums.
Saw P&G in a small club in 94, Zakk was playing the bullseye LP into a 2203 half stack with a few pedals on the floor. It was one of the hugest guitar sounds I've ever heard. I couldn't believe that tone was coming out of such a simple, almost "budget" rig.
Absolutely fantastic video and great playing. Subbed 👊🏻
This is so damn cool man! You've absolutely NAILED that. Your run through of Miracle Man gave me goosebumps!
Awesome tone! If I closed my eyes I’d swear it was Zakk playing!
Finally an American artist as entertaining as the Andertons gang that plays as sweetly as Johan Segeborn. Awesome videos, SUBSCRIBED!
Graden Scheiwe agreed. Michael is less Andertons chatter and more playing
Thanks guys!!! I hope to get back to making vids soon.
I've searched ALL OVER RUclips on how to get Zakk's sound, (Not that I want it for myself), just to hear what ppl are doing, and yours is THE BEST out there !!!

Jesus....I mean damn it doesn't get any better than that. Wow....blown away. Just like listening to the albums.
Shaved years, the best years !! Now I'd love to see the Pride & Glory years :) Book of Shadows too
Wow! Definitely nailed the sound and the playing was fantastic!
The early days of Zakk were the best years.
Awesome and this is the definitive ZW tone video. Done. You nailed it. Awesome playing as always and nothing short best tonechaser videos on the web.
This is hands down the best guitar channel on RUclips... Period.
Fantastic.
Dude. Definitely best ZAKK tone. Holy shit. I guess I’ve been living under a rock. I’m just seeing this.
man...this is still my fav Zakk sound ever!! and you do him justice Mick!!!
Holy shit! Man I think Zakk would be impressed as well as the producer. That tone is spot on great job!!!!!
Thank you for dissecting Zakk's tone. Always wondered about it.
I always come back to this video every couple months for a little inspiration. Damn Michael, not only do your mixes kick ass, but your playing....buhjeebus!
Every time I see this video I enjoy more, and I maybe seen it 500 times!!!
Dude, this ain't the first time I've had my jaw hit the floor with how DEAD ON you get with these tones! Amazing!
outstanding! You nailed the tones!!
Great JOB Michael! "The young" Zakk is still the best rock guitarist for me. Thank you for this video :)
Dear Michael, your videos and guitar tones are amazing, you are absolute virtuoso, my respects! You blew my head away with your killing sound! Wow!
"I dont Wanna Change the World" is the best riff off No more Tears.
Dude.. You killed it like you wrote it. Bravo!!!
This is EPIC. Channel is a literal goldmine. Unreal.
Awesome tones!!!!!!
Dude you can shred! Awesome sound and you play those songs perfectly. I’ve always been a big fan of Zakk Wyldes(met him on the “No More Yours Tour” in Charlotte, and he and Dimebag and EVH and Randy Rhoads are my favorite guitar players!
Dude that era of zakk was so influential for me… “pride and glory “ left such an indelible imprint on me not to mention tons of other things zakk did
Thanks. Early Zakk stuff is so cool. You really nailed it.
That’s when Zakk‘s playing really inspired me... No more Tears, Pride and Glory.... awesome stuff!!!
these days I can’t even listen to his playing anymore :-(
Damn No more Tears and No rest for the WIcked were such impactful Albums and had so much FKn epic RIffage and melodic Solos its crazy.
Michael you are the real Zakk Wylde!!AWESOME
Little known fact: the Hendrix wah in the chain makes all the difference. It doesnt have to be on but having it in the chain is the secret sauce.
my god, Zakk's comping was so creative, without leaving any emptiness putting in fills here and there between one riff and one chord. It's what you need when you have only one guitar in the band. I liked a lot of his BLS music. It’s his Ozzy music that has sucked since Ozzmosis
Awesome.....this was amazing!...you play as good as zakk Mike!
outstanding stuff.
Before this video. I had only seen a few here and there. I thought Michael was just a dad with some cool gear.

Fark! Amazing tones - that sounds just like Zakk. Incredible playing!

No Rest for the Wicked is definitely my favorite post-Randy and Jake.
whoa blew me away dude ...serious tone and playing just wow
Damn man you not only nail the tone and inflections awesome but also the actual play style and pick texturing. I almost want to cut some vocals on those.
SOLID! Greay playing, and Zakk info! I love my Yamaha SPX90II and REV7 processors.
That was the coolest Zakk tone. You nailed it. The playing was spot on man!
One of the most cleanest playing and best sounding guitar solos on youtube.
Incredible tone !!

Dude! That E bend towards the end of the Mr Tinkertrain solo - all the extraneous string noise - you nailed it!
Great playing
İ always loved pride and glory, that was very honest work
Blown away.
I was on the edge of my sit for this video. You killed it and it's a 6yr video... what the heck
Very good video and superb playing.
You’re the best at what you do brother. Hands down. 👏👏

Another phenomenal specimen of audio archaeology and re-creation!

The whole video was riveting - thanks.
fantastic history of Zack's sound and playing!!!
All the way around, phenomenal. Nailed the tone and the chops! Kudos
Fantastic tone and execution!!!
Great vid. I'm working on a Zakk preset on my Axe-Fx III Mk II and it's a dream come true having everything he used at my disposal.
Spot on.
Well played sir. Well played

🤟🏻🎸🎸👍🏻💯
I appreciate your videos.
I have to say that I love this video and I even share it with my friends because I love the tone that you came up with.
Absolutely nailed those tones even more so than usual.
