Thanks for making this video. Perhaps show how to clip in the first 10 seconds (Currently at 6:53). Then, warn the viewers that the data must be in the same projection and show what could go wrong and how to fix this. But since the video topping is clipping, it would be best to have that at the very outset. Maybe a separate video to do with trouble-shooting clipping would be good a good alternative.

Thank you so much this video! I was struggling with the clipping, couldnt understand why it wasnt working until i watched your video! Turns out i set my clipping layer coordinate reference wrong! Thanks dude!

A 12-minute video just to "clip" a layer, that's so Qgis...

Whilst the 5 mins about re-projecting is intersting it is differnt from the Clipping - the theme of this video

Hi Eric, thank you for this video! I'm currently working with IUCN species range maps, e.g. global terrestrial mammal range maps, which comes out as a large vector file with many overlapping species polygons. I want to clip this polygon to the southeast Asian region and I have a boundary polygon for that. But i'm unable to clip the large vector file. the software just hangs and crashes. How should I go about this?

You might want to clip to a simplified shape first to get rid of some of the data before attempting to do the final clip. For example, if you can draw a rectangle around your area and clip to that, then clip to your final geometry, you might have better luck. Otherwise I can't provide more support here, I recommend asking questions on GIS Stackexchange (gis.stackexchange.com/)--lots of friendly and knowledgeable QGIS users there!

I dont know what Im doing wrong. I saved both layers in a specified and equal CRS, and when the cliping operation eds, it creates a shape file but with no geometry its just an empty layer.

I would recommend turning off "on the fly" projection transformation in the project properties under CRS, then seeing if your data still overlaps (since QGIS will render everything in the project's projection). Also, when clipping it can be easy to pick the wrong layers, so I would recommend getting rid of every layer except the two involved in the clip.
Otherwise it can be hard to debug things in the comments here, I'd recommend heading to GIS StackExchange.

I have the same exact issue with the clipping. By turning off the 'on the fly' trasformation I realised that the two layers actually do not overlap. What do I need to do in ore to set the same projection for the two layers?
