Thumbs up and a high five. Who knows what he may have contributed had he lived? His father said that from early on he lived and breathed music, esp. R & B and the Blues. That he wasn't after fame, just that he wanted music to be his life. He founded the Stones, auditioned Mick and Keith (had previous players before them), steered the group, brought in instruments then almost unheard of, giving that touch of magic to the songs (and of course these great riffs). No Jones, no Stones.
Thank you BRIAN MY DANDELION, I FIRST SAW YOU ON ED SULLIVAN SHOW 1965, I was 5 years old! Your a gift to this world with your Intelligence and Regal Looks, HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOVE
I have always thought that Brian probably would have been an excellent producer and arranger. He might have gotten another band together but his talents lay in taking music and transforming it. Whatever he might have done, he would have been great at it.
I think he must be judged as a musician, even if he had personal problems. Beethoven had probably bipolar disorder but he composed the symphonies. Even if Brian was not the composer, the first songs of the Rolling Stones show something different, which is possibly the contribution of a genius.
Brian should've gotten more credit than he was given for the band. He was the one who created it, named it, chose the members, got the gigs and more but all we think of when hear Rolling Stones is Mick and Keith. That's how I was when I first heard of them. I think it's awful that he isn't getting the credit he deserves especially when Rolling Stones is one of the most successful bands in the world. He may have not been perfect but he was precious and I hate that he isn't here anymore.
Mick and Keith are not all that I think of (speaking for myself). Brian is always uppermost in my mind when it comes to the Stones and the glorious music that Brian produced from so many diverse instruments. Even his band mates have said Brian was the most talented when it came to playing a wide variety of instruments. He could learn play an instrument he'd never even seen before within 20 minutes! This was his genius and his riffs and and melodies sparkled like gems though out all of the Stones best songs of the 60s.
If you need to ask why all the fuss about Brian Jones, even decades after his death, then you either weren't there or you haven't been paying attention. There would have been no Rolling Stones without Brian. He was the first to play slide guitar in England. He was multi-instrumentalist and The Stones would have been but a memory if it had not been for Brian and his ability to take mediocre Mick/Keith songs and give them a special flair due to his musical talents.
Yeah you are pretty spot on the music of the new boys took a rapid dive after Brian was fucked over, that's why they still play mostly classics at their concerts. After 71.72 the stones where a little bit how's ya farmer. I still listen to all the old blusie stuff with Brian email xcellant stuff. 😎😂
Brian was certainly the driving force behind the band. Their name, the blues. While Mick was still at The London School of Economics Brian and Keith were playing their guitars all day. IMO their early years were the best. The songs the sound pre-1970 are the ones I still listen to. However his drug abuse became an accelerating problem. He was no longer dependable, being wasted at gigs, rehearsals and recordings. Still he was GREAT. That slideguitar oh man
The Fabs I agree 100%, definitely. I think he abused the alcohol and drugs because of the neglect from the band. He definitely didn't seem like the one who took the fame really well, especially when he was treated poorly by the other members. I know they've said he was an asshole but part of me feels like it was because of the way they treated him that he couldn't help but need to act that way; like a defence, y'know? He was a very intelligent person and I know he was different but he deserved to have lived. I feel like he would've made it if he hadn't either been murdered in his pool or misadventured into it while he was off into his drugged world. I heard he was getting better and was going to create a band with a bunch of musicians including John Lennon, but I guess death got to him first. He was talented, he knew how to play SOOO many instruments, he played in some Beatles songs (I know he's probably played in more artists songs but I only know of this because The Beatles are my favourite band) and Mick and Keith must have been jealous of his abilities so they overshadowed him.
~ 'Look at how he (Brian) slides down to the song’s IV chord, on his Firebird’s open strings, and it’s immediately obvious he’s playing in Open A tuning. Open A is essentially the same tuning as Open G, one tone up. Here we are, at the end of Brian’s career, and he’s still using this distinctive tuning as he was in 1962. uploadstars.com/video/SMXG3AW8 Yet this video is especially sad because Keith Richards, to this day, says he was shown the tuning that Brian is playing, by Ry Cooder.' Paul Trynka
Also true...there's early interviews in denmark or australia around 64 or 65 where Brian actually seems to be the "frontman" as he's the one who's answering most of the questions and who the interviewer is mostly talking to.
Here is a poem I wrote about Brian Jones as a tribute to him. He founded the greatest rock & roll band in the world, his love of playing the blues set the precedent on which fame was hurled, on fashion he led the way, the star burned bright then sadly faded away, but the music lives on & the spirit of the times is never gone. written by Andrew Williams on the 11/8/2010.
Beautiful reply. IMO Mick and Keith had little interest in helping him. The times I saw them in NYC when they came for recording sessions they looked, acted and talked like he wasn't even with them. Heck, they didn't even walk with him. I have my own opinions, but some jealousy and the fact that he gave them their start played a role (some guilt, as well?). Anyway, like you said, his musicianship deserves to be remembered. So for this tribute, I thank you.
@CountryJohnLeeBrooks exactly!!!! keith is just lucky to be alive, tellinng all the stories about the stones... but the real star is Brian.... he is the mind and soul of the stones.... Brain wouldnt never made a silly pirates movie...
Yeah.......even though you were murdered and none of them showed up for your funeral and now they say "he was weak and couldn't handle his drugs".......Thanks Brian, for the rolling Stones 😎
I think a lot of us regret that he didn't live to see and/or benefit from the fact that the group he formed became one of the most important bands of all times. And just the same way his faults are known, so are his talents. Nobody is trying to make a saint out of Jones, but the fact is that the majority of Jones' fans find despicable the way he was treated by Mick, Keith and that ass wipe Andrew. Mick and Keith were jerks too, but none of their fans tend to remember or talk about their sh!t.
Jordan Rossen not because then we’re we’re lucky to have the Mick Taylor era, he was also a genius with a guitar, when he was punched out due to Keith’s jealousy that was the end of the Stones ability to make great music.
Thank-you Guitarlady02 for your moving tribute to the heart and soul of The Rolling Stones. And, you used the perfect song for the soundtrack, Brian's immortal riff played on his Vox Teardrop. The clips from Rock 'n Roll Circus are very painful to watch. I would have been tempted not to use them. However, I'm glad you included them since they show the results of the cruel and inhumane treatment that the so called Glimmer Twins and Andrew Loog Oldham subjected him to. No Jones No Stones
They should have given Brian Jones the credit he deserved for Ruby Tuesday (Which Mick has publicly stated he had nothing to do with) as well as Brian's contributions to songs he wrote the music for. It was his band he hired Mick and Keith and had to teach Keith how to tune his guitar and play more than 2 chords. Brian named the band and booked the gigs. He played over 60 types of instruments that added such flavor and exotic sounds to the music.
I don't think is fair comparing Brian with Kurt Cobain. Unlike Cobain Brian was very lively, a rebel, an innovator and aggresive like a Siamese fighting fish
He was my idol growing up. He didn't turn out to be a good person. Fathered numerous children without any support or interest in them. Donovan Leich raised one of his boys.
Merci beaucoup pour votre vidéo, qui me rappelle bien BRIAN ✨ le multi instrumentistes, des rolling stones depuis 1962, 1969, merci a lui pour les riffs guitare, sitar harmonica et autres, 🎧
@Jumpin Jack-In reality, geniuses are never "normal". Their brains are differently wired and this is reflected in their behavior, which can be interpreted (mostly negatively) by the average Joe or Jill. Some exhibit wild, self-destructing behavior; others keep to themselves, avoiding as much social contact as possible. It's the nature of the beast. IMO Brian was a genius; a musical prodigy at a very young age, and he always saw the musical world somewhat differently than Mick and Keith (Charlie and Bill always seemed to just roll along with whatever). If anyone compares the way Brian spoke as opposed to the others, one could tell immediately that here was a very intelligent person. I'm sure his IQ was quite above that of Mick and Keith. His treatment of women has been well documented (in this, I think Jagger has him beat), but he also suffered at their hands as well. Seriously, can anyone picture Brian settled into married life with a bevy of children? Don't think it ever would have happened. I appreciate Brian for his love of the blues such to the extent that he created his own band to play them. Also, the variety of instruments he learned to play, and his own appreciation of them is quite obvious. We should let him RIP and appreciate what he has contributed to the world of music.
I remembered, and put an entry on Facebook. OK, maybe I went a little too far; wore my Brian Jones T Shirt all day yesterday. Watched a bunch of videos here on RUclips. Photos of his funeral-Suki looks terrible. She seems in a daze with other people having to hold her up. Wrote a little note on his FindAGrave page. Here's my entry from Facebook: On July 3, 1969, Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones was found dead in his swimming pool in the backyard of his home in Hartfield. East Sussex UK. The music world lost a genius, if troubled, member. Love him, hate him, there is no doubt his high IQ, coupled with a sensitive nature, parents who at the least didn't support his early endeavors and at the worst found him an "embarrassment" to their middle class values, he nevertheless gave the world a long lasting group that has provided untold inspiration to so many up to the present day. He brought in instruments that were rarely, if ever, used in the bands of the day. It was said he could pick up any instrument and have it down pat within 5 minutes. About his death, theories still float around, no pun intended. I have my own ideas, and will only say that Brian was known as an excellent swimmer. IMO foul play was involved, though it is now moot because those under suspicion are deceased. Thrown out by the band he created, and with a hazy future, he probably gave in too easily and had already lost that fighting spirit to survive. Also IMO, he was one of those overly sensitive souls who could not handle what inevitably came along with the fame and fortune of those who had reached the top of the musical pyramid. He lashed out at those around him in an attempt to placate the storm within. RIP Lewis Brian Hopkins Jones February 28, 1942 - July 3, 1969
+Michael K For what it is worth, I love Brian Jones Presents The Pipes of Pan at Joujouka. If you can, try and find Brion Gyson's commentary on RUclips about Brian's trip to Morocco to do the field recording of Joujouka. Fascinating. The album is quite astounding and it shows that, once again, Brian Jones was far ahead of his time. Brian could be called one of the founders of what we now know as "World Music". In a review of this album I read long ago, the reviewer said something like "Brian Jones thought of Joujouka as the square root of the blues". I have the album both on vinyl and on CD. Wikipedia has an interesting entry regarding the album: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Jones_Presents_the_Pipes_of_Pan_at_Joujouka
huascar66 I also recommend reading that part about the creation that led to the Pipes of Pan in Paul Trynka's "Brian Jones-The Making of the Rolling Stones". You need not read the whole book, but I do suggest looking up that part of his life that dealt with Joujouka. Your library may have the book, which is where I found it. Another accomplishment by Brian that was minimized along with several others.
Thank you for the great video remembering Brian Jones !!! Stonesduo Spider & The Fly also recorded an ode for Brian Jones in 2012. have a look at www.stonesduo.nl
Big Jones Fan but he faded away on the booze and drugs! He’s autopsy revealed that his organs were in bad shape! he would have died fairly young anyway!
What's up with that? Keith an Mick were acting like little bit, taking girls from one another, and of course Brian's girlfriend ended up with Keith. I they could have any girl, why did they have to be so competitive?
George learned to play first but he had to travel to India for several months to learn the instrument. Brian taught himself how to play in just six hours.
have tried to see BJ in your eyes - you've definitely over glamourized , martyrized him but yeah alright i see the charm. it takes time. this was a bit before my era whatever that is exactly but if not for youtube i'd probably have believed what Keef wrote about him. History really is perspective.
Brian introduced a metaphysical element to the Stones' music that made the hairs on my spine stand on end. He left and it ended.
Thumbs up and a high five. Who knows what he may have contributed had he lived? His father said that from early on he lived and breathed music, esp. R & B and the Blues. Brian had the smile of a mischievous, cute little boy. He looked so sweet.
I love how he very often couldn´t stop giggling... so lovely..
Thanks for this Fav video! Brian Jones should be inducted in the R&Roll Hall of Fame. Please.
My fave since beginning, tyx for what you gave us, and seeing Brian teice in my hometown twice ! Best gigs ever 😊
Wonderful tribute ❤ brian Jones . such a amazing person
he is greatly missed.
Brian was the more cute in the group and best of all of the Rolling Stones look his smile wow ❤️
True HERO OF Rolling Stones.Unforgettable.
There was only one Brian Lewis Hopkin jones and he had a heart of gold I know he had because when he did for me ❤❤❤❤
brian jones- the ultimate British rock star- the United States had morrison, hendrix etc but we had Brian!
Brian Jones use to smile when he played for the Rolling Stones. He was so handsome.
Nice observation. He did seem so happy in the early days.
He had reason to be happy. He'd created the greatest rock band in the world.
No argument there.
Loved Brian Jones. It was a shock when we lost him. He will nevet be forgotten.
I have always thought that Brian probably would have been an excellent producer and arranger. He might have gotten another band together but his talents lay in taking music and transforming it. Whatever he might have done, he would have been great at it.

Goumas Nick I’d say musically they were lucky to replace Brian with Mick Taylor, another genius, then we he left it all went down hill.
Brian should've gotten more credit than he was given for the band. Hollis Brown yes and no, some of the best Stones albums were with Mick Taylor, it all turned to shit after he left.
@@hollisbrown645me too 😊
Great pix tyx
Among all the other things he had going for him, he also had an amazing sense of style.
Hard to believe that it was 50 years ago today. This is the first Rolling Stones song to ever hear. Still a fan

He played with Jimi Hendrix too. They were good friends.
Excellent song choice, excellent film footage of Brian.

I LOVE him so ❤️
Just fell on this ion yer channel..it's just great isn't it?

Does anybody have a video in which we can hear Brian's laughter? xD Because everytime I see videos of him he laughs but there's no sound...

Most geniuses were far from perfect and even had more of their share of negative qualities. Seems to often go with the territory.
I’m crying
Un génie de la musique...😢
is it true Brian played Sitar before George ?
No. Not on record anyway. Norwegian Wood recorded in Oct, '65. Paint It Black recorded March '66. But Brian's approach was more inventive.
Sure was😎✌️
George learned to play first but he had to travel to India for several months to learn the instrument. Brian taught himself how to play in just six hours.
Great Brian !!!
he deid young
When Brian started the Stones he wanted Paul Jones from Manfred Mann to be the lead singer instead of Mick.
have tried to see BJ in your eyes - you've definitely over glamourized , martyrized him but yeah alright i see the charm. it takes time. this was a bit before my era whatever that is exactly but if not for youtube i'd probably have believed what Keef wrote about him. History really is perspective.
No Jones No Stones.
It was ALL downhill after he started with the pimp hats.
Carl Rudd Anita's influence
His own band killed him before he even got in the pool.
No proof.
The reason Mick started dancing was because he wanted to be James Brown
