Rear discharge is never a pain compared to side discharge?
The last mower I purchased about four or five years ago heistates. Granted, it needs a tune up, but it's another throw away. It stalled when it was new! I found the HRX217VKA locally. Mind you, it's only one of two Honda available in the area as they stopped making them last September. The dealer (a local dealer, not a box store) is fixing the cam shaft that was recalled and I'll be picking up my new machine early next week! I can't wait! And I can't believe I'll own one of the last that Honda made!
I got a honda hrx 217 from a guy I work with for $100. Just replaced the carburetor today and did an oil change. Runs great and no more gas leak.
Just picked up a FREEE one, 10 yrs old but looks like new. Been used on a subdivision lot only. Lucky me.....
Same here! Found it on the side of the road with a sign that said FREE, because they lost the key. Replacing the key, battery, and charger this week. Hoping for the best!

So far this mower is better then the Honda 216 and the Toro recylcer I had this season. I took them both back and got the 217. I have 11 bi-weekly clients and this mower goes right through the longer grass. Its making the work I do alot easier. Thanks Dan for the videos.

Just bought the 2020 version to replace my HRN today!! This mower poops on my HRN!! Now don’t get me wrong the HRN version is a great mower but the HRX just puts the icing on the cake!! Thank you for the review man!! You’re the best!!

i think it would stall with st augustine grass at that height. it is absolutely a pain in the butt! So if it could relieve the pressure on my achee breaky body i would gladly buy it.

How does it cut in the at Augustine. I have that and my toro just tears up the yard. I have to re sod soon
How well does the rear discharge work in comparison to a side discharge mower like my old Toro recycler? I need a new mower but I use side discharge 99% of the time. Will the rear plastic discharge hold up overtime if I’m running over small sticks etc?

My hrx217 boggs down in my zoysia grass when I'm cutting an inch off and I'm bagging it... My grass is some thick and luscious grass though lol.
When I have tall grass, I set high as it can be set. I open back discharge so it will discharge adequately. I now one time
I let it lay. Next time I mow, week or two later
It looks better. 3rd time is usually a charm. Knowledge and Experience equals Wisfom. It's hard on a mower to try to mow low with high, usually moist grass. Dont kill your mower, belt, blade, yourself. If your wife , customer complaints, just tell them these things. Hopefully, they will be reasonable and understand
Thanks for posting what this mower can really do. All the ads are of it on a perfectly manicured lawn that is already cut lol. I have over an acre to cut, and really want a walk-behind 36", but I have no place to store it as my home is a rental. This will definitely fit the bill since my 22" Husq can't power through shit without me pushing it these days.

I'm sure the additional blade has a factor chopping up that tall grass... I just mowed a lot that was like severely overgrown (over the hood of a typical riding mower and reminded me of the introduction to Little House on the Prairie tv show). Even with Gator blades, it had to be cut three times in different directions to get a level result.. Not sure about dropping that much coin on a mower, but I did see a TB240 with a Honda engine.
I think it would be good if Honda had a side discharge option, maybe for their hrcs for super overgrown situations like this, the rear discharge would kinda suck getting clippings and stuff shot at your feet

I love honda I work with commercial and residential landscaping company and we use troy built or honda the honda can take a beating and Troy built but honda is a work horse.

I don’t know. If they “Lock”, it isn’t noticeable or cause any problems.
now have Honda make a 35" push mower like the time-master but with a BIG 400CC Honda motor and a beefy transmission.
I had a time master, I thought it sucked. The deck is too small if you have grass that is a little tall, a little thick, or a little wet and that is always going to happen when you have a business and you’re doing yards bi-weekly in the rainy south. Great machine in the fall and spring when you can go right through it but sucked and very frustrating In the summer.
I know I watched your videos for a long time . Toro has beefed the engine up on them to 212cc I think. but imagine a BIG 400cc motor with a welded big deck designed by Dans Vlog and other youtube mower peeps.

I’ve got a Honda gx 610 motor on my pressure washer I got a water heater as well but my pump went out and it’s a cat pump 4000psi 4 gpm I was thinking of going with a higher gpm or should I got back with 4 gpm and buy another machine I do a lot of commercial property’s

The good news about your Honda motor is it can definitely handle a much larger pump so your options are huge You can use a shaft mount pump , or a belt driven pump. You really need to do your research and know your price range for which one would best suit you. I’ve only used shaft mounted pumps. With that said I think it is important to know if you’re using garden hose and a Spicket is your water Source and if so, you do not want to exceed a pump that is 5 gallons per minute due to the risk of the Spicket not keeping up with the demand of the pump and ruining your pump. If you have a water tank to provide positive flow on demand then the world is your oyster my friend… Go with what your budget allows
I ended up buying one of these mowers and I have a problem when I mulch grass comes out rear discharge shout and there is a pile of grass when I lift up back flap
Make sure back door that slides from the versamow lever is not blocked by grass clippings when you shut it.

You're a top guy Dan and here in the UK where in general the gardens are smaller but have much bigger borders with shrubs, plants flowers etc it's great to watch all the hard work you put into your side hustle as well as running a house and having a full time job and seeing your boys every other week.

I cut grass like that all the time with my hrx217 at the 3 setting full discharge, no problem.
Full discharge? Then ya go back over it?
Dan's Vlog sorry I meant full discharge with bag on. 3 setting is the wheel height I tend to use most, some people insist on me cutting too low at 2.5. The motor will start to bog when bag is full so you know when to empty it into the green bin 😎 such a sweet mower!
Try back wheels at 2.5 and the front wheels at 3. It will cut at close to 2 3/4 inch and the front being higher allows better airflow to the bag. Try it! Let us know

That $700 Honda will run for 25 years with basic maintenance. You'll buy 10, $450 mowers in the same time frame.
How about the Honda HRR. It does not have the composite deck, slightly smaller wheels. About 470
If you think $700.00 is too much, then it’s clear, you never owned one!

Dan look into electric lawnmowers, there are a handful of decent ones coming out, I recently converted an old push mower I had around with a $400 electric motorcycle kit from curtis. I had a friend with a 3d printer print the snap-in connection to fit my dewalt flew volt 100v batteries from my table saw. I use all 4 of those batteries and it still 3/4 charged after cutting my 1/2 acre lot. Leaves behind the best cut ever due to the peak hp being around 21hp from the kit
