    Great project! I have left over insulation board from a making cornice boards for my windows... I can use the same fabric to cover the fireplace and coordinate the whole room. Thanks very much.

    I was just thinking of doing the same thing with my fireplace (which is what has me looking at videos like this tonight). I was going to use 2" foam board but it looks like this may be better. I'm also thinking about attaching a handle with a wood backing so I can get it out of the fireplace opening easily. And while I'm not big on putting on some sort of fabric I know I'm going to have to go that route. As of right now I'm just have a fleece throw over the fireplace screen that is flat across the open and it appears to be covering the opening pretty well.

    light material and good insulation. easy to remove easy to carry easy to make

    I tried this but can still feel a draft getting through. This might prevent hot air from being sucked out, even without an airtight fit.
