undoubtedly one of the most under rated engines in the mopar stable, and with a decent exhaust setup, absolutely hands down the best sounding of them all. I love the 4.7!
I just got one! 4x4 quad. She thirsty..but damn fun and torquie..a keeper for sure. Havent dont an exhaust yet. Why i been on here lookin for a decent setup and what im lookin at if i wanna do my own rebuild... Im feelin the magnaflow with a simple 3- 3.5" exit on the passanger side
I've got a 2004 Dakota with a Flowmaster. It was on the truck when I bought it in 2008. Its a small muffler and doesn't look like anything other than the muffler was modified. It has the tailpipe exiting the normal side location. Sounds really good, yet its not annoying. Sounds almost like dual exhaust. I think the biggest thing with the sound of these engines as well as the performance all lies in the firing order they chosen to use when the engineers built the engine.
you've inspired me to rebuild a 4.7, I like that you left the heads natural aluminum w/ the red iron block and valve covers I'm doing the same except in Chrysler Green
The one mistake I made was putting in the pre assembled heads without having a machine shop check specs first. Better off just getting new heads (if needed) and having a machine shop install the valves and springs. The pre assembled valves tend to be garbage.
@@MechanicalMike Really? what specs do you think are out and/or need checking? I reused my valves after lapping them all in their original locations and put new stem seals in. I'm installing the heads back on the block today and I'll check compression after I get the timing set put back together.
I have bought a 2001 Jeep GC Wj 4.7 v8 that i'm working on it, i hope will be running again after, as i'm amateur mechanic. This was nice and relaxing to watch, but please clean the other parts as well, like that intake manifold for example😁 doesen't look to nice on that fresh engine.
You'll get it bro. Everyone starts somewhere. I've rebuilt 100+ engines but even I was terrified on my first build. Sweating bullets right before the first start.
That's one heck of a job right there...I'll pass on the Durango but Kudos to you man! The engine really looked good in the red but that old intake could have used a coat of paint it was like putting a dirty hat over a diamond.Anyway you did a great job.
Impressive video, bought myself a 04' ram for dirt cheap and was thinking to do an engine overhaul on my 4.7 also, anything in particular you have problems with? 10/10 would watch this video again
Mechanical Mike I am a mechanic myself always working on somebody else's stuff but mine I have a 03 ram 1500 with a 4.7l 175000 miles I need head gaskets timing kit and every other gasket lol I was wondering what internal brand of parts did you use and how are they holding up
Save time and hassle, I welded some angle iron under the trans to the frame to keep the trans perfectly centered. and in original position. It took 15 minutes to replace the motor.
Any good links on picking up master rebuild kits ? I have an 03 4.7l 1500 that has a slight head gasket leak and i wanna rebuild it since she already has 200k miles on her and idk if the previous owner did any real maintenance or repairs
If you don't mind me asking, or maybe I'm missing something here. I will add that the video was pretty neat/interesting but what purpose can this video be used for? Looks like literally weeks of work all condensed into a 5 something minute video. I couldn't imagine trying to slow the playback down enough to make use of it for any reference. Without any narrative also, to as each step of the procedure . Like I said, I might be missing the point here. Lol 😂
@@MechanicalMike Hey Mike, the big question is … was it worth it? I have an 04 Dakota 4x4 I need to do the same thing, was thinking about getting another 4.7 rebuilding it and swap it.
Looks like he put new heads but it looks like he's so used 2002 heads. I would have at least upgraded the heads. And put the 2008 cams and intake on it. That extra 40 horsepower is good insurance

Yes. I found mine on Ebay. Came with everything muffler to tail pipes.

So excited to find a video I inherited a 06 ram with the 4.7 magnum pushing me to rebuild it more and more
I just wish I knew how to do this, had the space and all the tools, friends for a hand when needed, but never made it there yet, maybe someday!
The paint color made it look like a retro engine, nice touch.
Ok now it’s my trucks turn where do we meet up at 😂. That was awesome
Mechanical mike this is exactly what I need on my 04 Durango 4.7
thanks, great video!
Have a 2003 H.O. very impressive performance and off-road got it 600. Changed 1 cylinder head and a gasket and it is good to go.

Post a video of the first start 👌🏻

Amazing you got this done in just over 5 minutes. How much would you charge to do this for someone?
do you have any videos of it running when done?
I wish it only took 5 minutes! Looks good
Where are yall located I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4.7 need mine done

Forgive me for my dumb question but is this the same engine as the wj v8 jeeps? 4.7l
i would love to be able to do this. gj guys. should have done a real time rev at the end.
Where you guys located I hv a 4.7 2003 dodge
Is it worth it to rebuild it vs swapping it out with used junkyard motor ?
Did it run?
And the 1st start????
А где видео пуска и работы? Или он так и не запустился?
@1ForAllandAllForAll And where is the video of starting and running the engine? Or did it never start?
Just out of curiosity what's the name of the song?
Queen of Spades. This is a beat I made a couple years ago
Why did you remove the heads before pulling it ?
Wasn't planning on a full rebuild, just head replacement. Then I saw the extent of the damage once I opened it up.

There's a 9 part series I did on this overhaul that has the step by step details
Are there any horsepower mods for this little motor and after the rebuild what was the horsepower my 4,7 has 270k and still going
The tolerances are so minimal on these engines that modding may be pretty difficult. However, you can mod just about anything if you really want to.
you can buy 2008+ durango camshafts.

How much does something like that cost I live in California I have a 2008 1500 dodge ram I rather put money into it than buy another
Did u upgrade any of the internals?
i work that fast.
You forgot the torque converter 😝
Total cost?
I never added it up, but all said and done, I could have bought a remanufactured engine for less, and if I did it again, I would go that route.
no startup?????? aaaahhh

I don't think you can use 2008 cams because of the tone ring difference.
