That's the funniest bowling video I've ever seen. When you started I was like what do I want to watch this for but then I started watching it and I was cracking up. Basically, the balls you through with a lot of speed are the ones that blew the pins off the back of the deck. Not bad.
This is how I throw all time. I was a straight/ back up bowler that tried so many time to throw a normal hook and couldn't get it. But in November 2023, I had my ball drill finger tip for backup. My average went from a 130 to a 160 in the summer league. I have shoot more 200s with my high being 246 then I ever have. So happy you made this video.
Great , fun video NIck, shows your talent and skilled lane play. Just what I needed to get my mind off Hurricane Nohe, passing South of The Big Island right now. Aloha NIck.
Welcome to my natural bowling style been bowling like it simce i was 13yo now 47yo its fun to loft the right gutter and get the ball to entre left side pocket do it all the time for fun but you did great for not natural for you and yes 7 oin is a pain to get spare helps you just let it skid into the pin
I went to the bowling alley yesterday and bowled my first practice game backup. I used my Hammer Effect that I've been using since the beginning of summer to shoot my left side spares with a backup ball. Yes I'm a lefty. My backup game yesterday was a 220.
Had NO idea whether or not you would be able to score with such a weak shot. But you did real well, Nick. I'd be shooting 70-80 with attempting a backup shot for the entire game and that's only if I didn't hurt myself trying this. Yeah, I'd like to see a few videos on you competing with another bowler, both throwing backup balls. Normally, I'm around 195 with an occasional adventure into the mid-600s. Have even had a few 700+ series recently. But I am nowhere near you as a bowler. But then, maybe at age 75 I don't have to be. lol
I'd want to see a Simo x Brunsnick backup ball challenge. As one of the top bowlers of the PBA, I'd love to understand his logic and reasoning when he plays the left side.
I think we are going to approach a time where most young pros are comfortable throwing backup. It's going to change the game. The percentages for left and right versions of spares might even out.
This is how i bowl my average is a 180 and my best game ever was a 275 in league last winter season using a radical rattler and then a ebonite singer hybrid
Awesome game Nick, now I’m encouraged to actually try working on getting my backup release better, i’m a 1 hander but so long as the NU Blue is my hands i should be fine🤣🤣
Wait! What? What is this backup ball thing? Could you show some close up shots of how to throw it? I ain't gonna lie your backup game is better than my regular game. Maybe I need this...???
Right handers wanting to throw from the left side... cool segment Nick. Welcome to the dark side. 😊 Would it roll more "normal" if you did a lefty layout?
@JennieMcKinley I've been trying this lately...I use an old urethane (Brunswick Headhunter) and I don't go past middle board. Works decent when I can ride the left gutter, but sometimes that ball hooks. I practice to try to keep it from either falling into the gutter, or just missing the 7. This would then probably be a speed issue, I guess..thanks.
I tried learning how to throw an effective back-up ball for those times in 'C' Squad PBA Regionals where the right side was just plain burned out, but the lefties were still scoring big. But I could never get a good hook or a consistent one. (Of course, this was more than 25 years ago where even the reactive balls of the time were nowhere near what they deliver today).
What’s the secret to releasing the ball to back it up? I’m a right handed bowler and miss the 10 pin way too often. I thought if I could throw a backup ball towards it I might improve my stats on it. One thing I’m afraid of though is ruining my right handed release.
hello! I am a low rev , low speed bowler who bowls backup with an ultimate defender. I average about 196. Do you think it would be worth it for me to switch to the mesmerize?
Both are strong bowling balls, so maybe if you were looking to replace the Ultimate Defender in your bag. Not sure it would be best to have both in the same bag especially being lower speed.
Does Simo use a ball with a specific layout for backup balling. Cause if I throw a backup ball as a two hander, it either over hooks or it knuckleballs
Great video content Man,I am 70 years old, there's a guy in our league throws back up ball, can you drill the ball to do this? I throw a backup every once in awhile and they laugh and I can make a strike. I just don't do it all the time. I have to really reverse my hand position my wrist trying not to tear it up. What do you think? Please respond. Thank you.
Hey Nick how you doing I like your videos please tell me about your grip why is your ring finger hole different from your middle finger hole. Thanks I'm a subscriber
@@brunsnick when I first started backup bowling, I would get a wicked pain in my forearm, would last for weeks, and only stay sore. I just backup bowled right through it regularly, 1 game a week or so, and now no pain, and I can now get on the back of the ball on tournament lanes and hit my straight spares.
I’m impressed if that’s your actual first full game like that ! I tend the throw straight at the spares but when it’s a split I have a little backup in it fora little extra what you love lol pin action!
Hell of a game Nick!!! Perhaps left handed for an entire game, for the next challenge!!
You just proved that a high rev rate is not needed to strike consistently and shoot a respectable score. I think you have a backup future Nick.
Couldn't agree more!
High rev not necessary, but fun 😁
A lot of fun
I think you and The House Bowling need to do the Back-up challenge.

For the 6 or 10 pin I’ll throw a backup shot and most of time I’ll nail it. It’s my go to spare shot.
Woooo that's my friend Amanda! She's a great person on and off the lanes! Love your videos Nick!!!
Nice vid. Also I bowl one handed backup as my style. Lots of people thinks its weird but it works!
Me too..😊😊

Really liked this back up ball video
The first time I saw this style was watch Deo and I was amazed. So naturally I tried it and almost broke my finger.
@@newbloodink yikes!
well done nick!
This is literally how I bowl. Have one 300 so far bowling this way. Wish there videos out there on how to improve bowling backup lol
Might be in the future 👀
@@doglover74651 I hope so. Would be nice 🤞🏾
Me too. Not much info out here for backup bowling. I would like to know what’s the best ball to use.
@sharongriffin9566 the best ball is anything storm doesn't own 😂 lol
Enjoyed that.
Just love watching you bowl. You always make me smile. Yyeeeeessssss!!!! ❤😂

That release looked so good. I can’t do backup cause everytime I try it I think I’m going to real my thumb and wrist going the other way 😅

"I am lined up! I am ready for a back-up ball tournament! Not Simo." 🤣 Bro lol
😂😂😂
Tim Cagle says, "hell, yes!"
I always feel like I’m showing off when I try the backup ball but that’s the only way I can pick up the pesky 10 pin lol
Love this video. ❤

The left side is walled and channeled especially with a New York Phil drilling!

Nick your Mesmerizing me with all your shots......lol
209 will be your score, my prediction after watching video, lol
I'm impressed.
I tried doing this while hitting spares on the 9 and 10 pins and it really works.
If you ever end up in the Charlotte, NC area, I'd totally be down to meetup and do a backup game.
Wow! .. nice Nick !! .. pretty darned good breaking 200 with backup ball. Nice!

Can you tell me the best ball to use for backup bowlers please?

Would it roll more "normal" if you did a lefty layout?
I could get it to flare more with an appropriate layout based on my PAP. Then I could maybe get a stronger roll downlane.
I throw a backup ball...and I absolutely detest the 7 pin...
Me too. It’s my worst pin that costs me a lot by missing it!!
To hit that seven, Ride the gutter with less back up hook. I rock 7 this way. My lefties team mate can't pick up the 7 to save his life.
@JennieMcKinley I've been trying this lately...I use an old urethane (Brunswick Headhunter) and I don't go past middle board. The trick is to get the thumb to the right side of the ball and rotate the finger from 6pm to 9pm.
@@brunsnick I will try it. Thank you.
I will make my guess after I watch end of video, hahahaha
Do you need the ball to be drilled for a leftie to be consistent???
@@nicholauscurphey3925 it would help for sure! I could get more track flare and more consistent roll if I drilled it off of that PAP.
@@brunsnick 8 had the 2-8-10 split that I used a backup ball on and it worked out great!
i got a 218 back up game the other day
My guess was 211 after seeing the first two frames .
Another great video Nick Well at least you won’t have to worrie about a stone 8 😂LMAO
Ambi right handed bowlers can use left handed bowling balls for back up?
Yes but if it’s drilled for a lefty it probably won’t fit very well.
Paralyzer 10 Bay-B! 🎉
Exacerbate the situation with the backup ball senior carry
I'm a backup bowler and bowle in the 200s

Do you think backup is easier with sarge easter
No not really. Way easier standard fingertip.
Those 7 pins are so easy for backup bowler like myself I had one last night and I got it using backup that is my natural way of bowling
Saw a trip 6 in there using the backup ball! I wonder if the chicks dig that? 🙃
Chicks do in fact dig it 😂
^^^^ they def do
i am a fulltime backup bowler.. everything looks about the same watching but curious on tips to stay a bit lower to the equator like you did.
Not really sure. Kneebend and dropping the shoulder some.
I wanna learn to do this for my annoying 10 pins hook it into it
im 1 hand no thumb bowler
the specs...please... mph? rotation? does the oil pattern plays role in back up style? whats the house pattern on this lanes?
Wait until the no thumbers start drilling separate balls for each side of the lane!
So this is a subtle commentary on how the left is walled, isn't it??
Come to the house I bowl at in Twin Falls, Idaho....definitely NOT walled. 😂 Barely any friction outside of 5
I really need to learn how to throw a backup ball without breaking my fingers. I definitely don't do it correctly.
Left side is easier.😄
nice game. You sure you didn't practice first
I throw back up and have found that cross lane and hitting the center arrow gets the 7 most of the time
Does Simo use a ball with a specific layout for backup balling. Cause if I throw a backup ball as a two hander, it either over hooks or it knuckleballs
Not sure.

Sure you can drill a ball to roll better when throwing backup. It would basically be like laying out a ball for a lefty in my case.
@@brunsnick ok thanks 👍👍👍
You should try bowling two handed
I tried and filmed it. I suck at it.
Telling the last shot to hook cost you a 220!
